MMOs are still majority male. Women make up ground by dominating in games like The Sims and Farmville, but they still don't touch the male numbers overall. Not that this is something they should be proud of if they did.

This pretty much covers it all...
As it's been stated, thanks to 4chan, everyone on the internet is male unless proven other wise. If You don't want your feelings hurt by people incorrectly referring to you as one gender or the other, then you should pretty much just stay off the internet. i know it sounds dickish to say that, but getting you're feeling hurt over something so common is rather ridiculous. And to be honest, with how stupid the younger generation of males is, and the way they treat women, is it better to be told to "get in the kitchen" over and over, or be called he by mistake?
FYI, you're facts are rather wrong. Studies were done that show over 40% dedicated video game players(this means games like CoD, LoL, MMOs, non facebook/android games) are female. So you wanna think again that the number of women don't touch the number of men.
Anybody else miss those days when people played videogames to...you know...play videogames?
For years and years people were just avatars on your screen with funny names, not guys or girls, just people.
Then came the dark times, then came the grrl gamers.
Suddenly in every game you played, chat was littered with "hah you got killed by a GIRL, btw im a GIRL don't hit on me silly boys!" while they tried to prove themselves 'better' than male gamers, not that anybody cared to begin with.
things have never been the same.

I didn't disappear from the thread there's just been nothing to respond to.
Just a bunch of people defending their sexist assumptions about player gender and a small handful pointing out that assuming male by default is shitty.
That's consistently been the content of the thread from page one so what exactly am I supposed to respond to at this point?
Oh boo hoo.

Can we go to a place where the forum for the game I love is filled with threads about the game instead of every asshole's feelings?
So because we didn't all agree to kowtow your demands we're all sexist? News for you this is a problem unique to you because you decided you were a woman and not a man. You want everyone to call people by their characters gender but you forget people post y the opposite gender sometimes. I'm a big burly man and would be just as offended being assumed a woman unless I name my character Jeff.
I've twice now made the suggestion of finding an LGBT FC where they'll call you whatever you want but you've ignored me twice. Putting that aside though how often are you really called he? I tried to think and 9/10 I call someone a short hand of their name and will only ever use a he or she if I'm saying hes getting a snack or something. So I really fail to see how this is a problem even for the most sensitive of people
hö? whats actualy the problem here?

I'm more saying sexist assumptions because to treat male as default is to assume male player, and assuming male player in a game where a very significant portion of the audience is women is sexist prioritizing of men. It isn't calling the people who do it sexist, rather calling out this one specific thing as sexist, and unless you think who a person is is defined entirely by one of their actions, those are not the same thing.
The "lol no girls on the internet" joke, apart from being ten years old and not even funny the first time posted in this threat, is overtly misogynist tho.
Yup, a troll. 13 posts, all in this thread, 35 pages. You all got caught by this troll.
Inception troll!
A troll within a troll (thread) trying to make people feel some type of way about feeling some type of way.

(not actually convinced this is a troll thread)
Don't call me "it".
At this point normally I would say something like 'man up' or 'grow some balls' but here idk.
The it was referring to being a troll as internet trolls have to gender hence the "it". Are you sure you should be playing video games at all though? Still trying to be nice, but I've never met or seen anyone be so sensitive and hurt over a single word that has no history, tone, meaning, or possibility to be negative.
I don't care who somebody is IRL. If we're interacting in a game, then it's who they are in the game that counts. Male characters get male pronouns and female characters get female pronouns. Makes everything easy and nobody can be offended by it. People playing characters of the opposite gender as themselves obviously wouldn't be doing so if they objected to being referred to that way.
(On the forums, by default you get the pronouns of the character in your avatar image, though if your RL gender is mentioned I'll switch to those pronouns. In game, I generally won't switch pronouns just because someone mentioned their RL gender, but will if they do so explicitly to specify that they prefer going by RL pronouns rather than IG ones.)
As another transwoman, I agree with you its quite annoying to be misgendered male when you are female. Especially since Warriors are forced to wear armor that pretty much de-genders us. Glamours have been a saving grace because it means I can put on some frilly stuff while tanking and that cuts down on the number of people misgendering me.
Which is funny, because "biological" women have typically found the overly frilly and revealing armor sets that have become run-of-the-mill in fantasy video games to be misogynist. "Boob plate" for example.
Not sure what point I'm really making, but your statement led to what for me was an interesting observation.
I have to disagree with you. Gender is not representative about how you dress or behave. Being feminine is not about frills and dresses and scantly clad armor, neither is being male about tuxedos, heavy armor, and muscles.
Also if you're covered in frills and scantly clad items it makes it even harder to tell who you are because many males prefer to dress their avatars like that while many female gamers tend to move towards more covering and conservative clothing. At least in my experience, of course everyone is different and to each their own, I have no problem with anyone until they attack me for making an assumption based off of arbitrary and somewhat random data generated in a game (IE calling a he she or calling a she he)
When I say the "Armor De-Gender's" Us I mean things like the new i100 Soldiery Gear. Even on Females it it makes it look like you have pecks and 8 pack abs, It removes any sense of what gender shape the person wearing it is. They could be male or female under it, but the design of it is obviously masculine.
As for "Frilly" When I say that I mean things that range from the Sipahi set to the new Light Plate Glamour armor. Stuff that's not just a male graphic forced on a female character. There are a lot of choices for glamour which I'm thankful for. And I change it up quite often. While appearing gendered externally is not a sign of someones internal gender, some people embrace their external gendered appearance and enjoy dressing up for it. This doesn't make them more or less the gender they identify as.
Not all Females prefer to dress conservatively.
Ok, I agree with you there. There are indeed times when I have to inspect the player to see what sex their character is due to their gear (including some males I mistake as females). So I agree it hides your body shape. I thought you meant that the stereotypical gendered clothes (Frilly armor etc) weren't there.
this whole thing went to hell as soon as op got all 'feminist power' and insulted all of us
i kinda want my hug back from page one. >>;

I'm so glad the in-game community is nothing like these forums.
Happens to me too. I have started to point out that I in game want to be refered to as a female. One of the reasons why I do not use TS is because then people will know I am a "man" behind the screen.. (I identify as ungendered, and in game I am female)
The thing that stands out to me in this situation is that this, like many games, is in the role-playing genre. Any capable person of any gender of any race can play any gender of any race in a make-believe virtual world. That having been said, many choose to play a gender that is not the same as their own for whatever their reasons are. While I don't share your real-life struggle to be accepted and perceived as the gender you feel you should be, I am a female player who plays only female characters and am most often called, "he" by those who don't know me. I understand that, in this type of game, things are often not what they seem, so it honestly doesn't bother me. In fact, when I'm kicking ass on my PLD and someone thinks I'm male, I just chuckle to myself, especially if I'm invited to do further content which requires VOIP and they're all shocked and impressed that I have ovaries. :P
We can't always choose the hands we're dealt in life, but we can certainly choose our battles. Ask yourself if this is one that's going to matter to you a year from now. My bet is that you'll be in a different place with your real-life stuff and it will be like water off a duck's back.
A year from now I will still dislike being misgendered, just as I disliked being misgendered a year ago.
