Red Mage (Tank) Please!

Just because Dark knight was a dps class for FF11 does not mean it should be FF14. FF14 is its own game and can label the classes how they want. If Red Mage is done right it can be a tank class. It makes more sense than samurai tanks and they already stated that Red Mage cannot hybrid, so it has already has lost its identity. Besides the HP absorption issue in game mechanics, Dark knight still has its identity. They still use dark magic, they still wear plate, and still use giant sword weapons to slay their enemies.

And RDM as DPS would be different. First because it uses a sword. Second because it'd have melee skills interacting with magic skills.

But 14 is a Final Fantasy game and will be looked upon as such.

Of course they can make a workable tank kit and call it Red Mage. Of course DRK still has some identity, thats why I said worse, not as bad. And of course this isn't 11, Dark Knight and Red Mage were in a lot more FF games than that.

This whole making sense thing really doesn't. 2/3rd's of Red Mage is damage, the rest is healing. They will always make more sense as a DPS for that reason alone.

Because its the way YOU want it, that's why YOU WONT accept it. What you need to understand is that you proposed an opinion of yours, not everyone is going to agree with it or want it the same way you do. That is something you need to accept instead of trying to argue that everyone else s opinion that doesn't agree with you is wrong.

I think the majority of it is just balancing issues. Yoshi P. has never liked playing the balancing game with classes and makes them more straight forward. I understand it is frustrating to see your classes losing some identity, but I feel if it does go tank it can retain some of its identity, but it is impossible to have it all. I think Yoshi would pref to put another class in this role if it was possible, but the majority is asking for Red Mage.

RDM is a perfect fit as tank, simply due to the way they've always been designed. The RDM has always been incredibly open ended design wise, so saying it can't be a tank because "reasons" is really silly.

Which is what most people say. People think that a "healer+DPS" would work in this game, when it won't. Hybrids don't exist in FFXIV.

However, you can make classes fit in the game by designing them with roles in mind.

To make it a DPS would step on a lot of peoples toes and be too similar to what we have already.
To make it a Healer would "greatly" step on a lot of peoples toes and be too similar to what we have already.

Making it a caster tank however? No other tank is like that, it steps on nobodies toes and would be unique.

We can't know that, but if I made an educated guess it's the opposite, considering both poll threads just created and the fact that census had DPS over the other roles combined.

Never said can't.

Saying that they can make a tank kit, but just slap a red mage name on it and it won't be a "proper" red mage is the very essence of saying that it can't be done, without out right stating it. It had to do with the tank meta in so far as it's "enough survivability to survive, put everythingelse in damage."

They can very easily put in red mage as a tank, while adhering to it's past incarnations. Whether they will or not is another question entirely.

"Can" and "should" are not synonyms.
