It's nothing to worry about. o7
This one isn't own healing horror story, but rather me as dps and my healer. As a white mage on my alt, I can understand completely how stressful it must have been.
So here's how the party was and the dungeon. Copperbell Mines: Marauder Tank, Scholar healer, BLM and NIN as dps.
We got to the part with the Slime, and it was horrible. We entered the cut off zone after a dispute between the healer and ninja. Just the scholar asking for the ninja to do something, which the ninja took offense to.
The scholar told us he needed to get his daughter some food, and it would be really quick. When he announced he was going afk, a few minutes afterwards the marauder said "ok" and ran ahead and began the fight (which did no damage). The ninja ran off to the corner of the room and didn't contribute at all. The marauder fainted and told the scholar they sucked. So now it was me, the BLM, against a complete slime without a healer. The ninja emote spammed /laugh and I was struggling to live. Before my hp dropped, the scholar came back and rushed into action. He healed me, but it was one BLM versus a slime. My hp took serious damage because blm squishy. But I didn't die, and I had to tank and dps, due to the scholar generating some aggro and getting chased. It was very stressful, more so for the scholar.
It was a stressful run, in general actually.
I recently had a similar experience as monk but the healer and tank both died on the slime leaving just me and a thm. I also kept pulling aggro from the tank on the bosses.
The healer can tank the slime, by the way. It does very little damage.
My own recent semi-horror stories are:
1. Accidentally queueing for A11 as ast instead of smn. I felt I was the nightmare there as I had never healed it before. I felt really bad when one of the dps died during an Optical Sight. I didn't get any loot so I went in again as smn. The healers that time made me feel better about my own performance! At one point it was just the tanks and I as I kept having to raise both healers. We needed to use the healer lb3 to not wipe.
2. World Of Darkness as smn. The other 7 people in the party were new. I think a good bit of the other 16 people were also new. I think the horror story was mainly for the rest of the party as one of the other tanks kept pulling while we were explaining mechanics. For me it was just stressful continually raising while trying to explain what was killing people, dodge mechanics myself, and occasionally actually dps. Got all 7 comms though. :)
3. Any of the Crystal Tower dungeons with people who ignore mechanics, especially tanks ignoring adds or pulling while we are explaining things. I've been re-running them all every week for aether oil.
Does it count if I am playing BLM and forced to heal because the healer is t paying attention and dying all the time.
Because I can't heal much. That should not have happened, pay attention to thing new healers.
And people who are playing healing "for funsies" at least learn what you are doing. Assize is probably not a skill you have to use on every single pull when the tank is the only one taking damage.
Medica is not your main healing skill.
I just had a bad time many times in roulette today.
Actually, Assize is more often used as an instant 300 potency attack in between holy spam, as well as the 10% MP refresh. I almost always use it for dps rather than as an actual heal. If you don't need the extra healing (which you shouldn't when the tank is the only one taking damage) then it should be used often to boost dps.
Edit: Ah Taika beat me to it.
It was being used at the start of the pulls there was no holy spam. Like after Regen was a assize. The pull had barely begun there was little to no mp being tossed out.
Just happened:
Queued for 50 leveling roulette as scholar, zone into Pharos Sirius (NM) and get a german tank, german monk and english monk.
The german monk is a sprout and has only been in the dungeon twice, I haven't seen the dungeon since over a year due to break so my knowledge of the bosses was somewhat rusty.
Trash pulls go fine, first boss 1 wipe because crystal stacks - second boss 1 wipe because boss went enrage too often and stomped the party (most likely my fault) - both thank and english monk leave with 75 min still left on the timer.
I and the german monk wait for 5 min until a dragoon joins us, we decide to try it without tank - did rest of the dungeon without a single wipe.
Yep. It's also easy for tank AoE to accidentally smash some eggs. Like PLD's Scorns, as I've done it by accident. It's important the tank position her exactly where she spawns, and not let the adds run amok from the center so that eggs would get easily hit. Sometimes there is new DPS that just don't know not to hit them too.
I will say a SCH has an easier time dealing with the enrage with Virus, Eos Fey Covenant, and Soil and whatever damage they can do of course.
Yeah, it was pretty late/early so I was a bit derp in addition to not having done the dungeon in a long time. When I saw one of the dps go for the eggs at the beginning of the fight, my mind went "Oh, smash eggs, okay!" - kind of like the stuff from the last boss in Toto-Rak - and the boss procceded to stomp the party. Since we killed almost all of the eggs in the room and I was a bit confused why everyone was suddenly taking so much damage I went into panick mode and forgot to manage my fairy. It was totally my fault.
Still, the tank didn't explain any strats and I couldn't really have looked up the dungeon beforhand since it was roulette and I had no idea what I would get. T_T
I don't know if this is so much a horror story as a head scratcher. Still...
Did leveling roulette on my WHM. Got gubal normal. All is ok, we have no wipes and DPS is good so we move at an above average pace. As I'm healing the tank I notice he's sporadically using his cooldowns and in some cases isn't using them at all. Because I'm in a hurry and he's not really melting, I let it slide. At the second boss I ask to pause briefly to recuperate some MP so I don't have to use SOS right off the bat. He pulls anyway but then apologizes and admits he's not paying attention.
He elaborates on this during the trash pull after the 2nd boss by apologizing again for not using cooldowns since it's hard for him to concentrate. His head hurts and he doesn't want to work. (???)
I wasn't really sure what to say so I told him I hoped he felt better. He tanked just fine so I could only complain about not being able to fully buff before each boss so I could DPS more. So odd.
Could write a horror story now, but instead I drew a picture:

Is there a special term for this kind of BRD?
"Dude get over here, you need a heal!" BRD is too far away. He can't hear you.
Was in Xelphatol and got a tank that asked me to switch to noct because it "helped him with aggro on large pulls." I said I was better at diurnal, but switched to noct to avoid an argument. I ended up switching back to diurnal because I'm more comfortable with it and, what a surprise, he had no aggro problems.
During the second boss, he got one-shotted twice to avoidable aoe and then had the nerve to tell me to learn to heal in noct. It was then I assumed he wanted me to be in noct so he didn't have to avoid aoe.
Got a really circus party doing Df levelling yesterday
Tank is pure newbie (no sync icon)
1 RP dps doing cutesy RPing (emote here emote there oh and a lalafell too)
Another dps seems hell bent on filling the aggro bar like he was in the middle of amazing race (he literally type "i win!!!" when he get full aggro)
Me somehow just doing my job
Let just say the dungeon end with 8 minutes left more or less and somehow i discover my inner talent as a "straight man" role
Void Ark. Month 1: Poison was obnoxious and dealt high damage. Nobody bothered to even try removing it. Was it really not curable?
I go in as SCH. I was horrified. All of the poison electrocutions, concussions, were all curable! And these people were saying, NO NO NO while DPSing while we all die!?
I was horrified at how easy it was. This shouldn't be happening.
The first month of Heavensward.
I got Garuda HM in Trial Roulette as a SCH.
I had to use healer LB3 twice to revive the fallen party. Everyone except the tanks died at least 4 times apiece because they stood in tornadoes and proceeded to get punted around the arena. It was like watching a pinball machine... but with more than one ball...
;/
I zoned into Anti Tower a few weeks ago and noticed I had more HP than the PLD as a WHM. That run didn't last very long.
Tuesday night, I ran a Brayflox with a FC member who was a tank, and we had two of the derpiest DPS ever. We managed to get through it, but the BLM was spamming blizzard I, thunder I and II, and halfway through the dungeon started spamming fire III, ignoring AoE altogether, while the monk focused seemingly random mobs which drew it out even longer. The tank was good, so I had a lot of time to DPS, but watching the derp mage and priority-ignoring monk play seemingly aimlessly and make our run so much longer than it should've been was pretty painful.
Went into my first run on Zurvan. Both tanks sat in their 'dps stances' (a WAR and DRK). DRK demanded WAR to MT "for obvious reasons" (no idea what he meant). He didn't swap out and remained silent. About a min later someone pulled and Zurvan was spinning in all directions cleaving the whole party for half their HP. Both tanks still refused to put their tank stances on.
On the second phase:
ME: "omg can someone please tank!"
DRK piped up saying: "WAR is a ****, I voked"
ME: "Grit son." (my lack of patience in the negatives at this point).
DRK: "I don't need grit you ****head!"
ME: "Well you obviously do since you can't hold agro."
<Zurvan continues to spin into the last phase>
DRK: <to WAR> "amazing play from someone who's cleared A12S /sarcasm"
I was just silently banging my head into my controller at this point, no point reasoning with either "tank". We finished the duty, we didn't wipe somehow, gave my com to the other healer and left.
Needless to say Zurvan spun right round....right round.....like a giant evil primal record ._.
I can explain the "obvious reasons", and why it's good for healers too.
Basically in savage raiding, it is the most optimal for a WAR to pull on each floor. This is because they have Defiance/Unchained which gives them max threat at-pull over all the other tanks, and they have no damage penalty unlike other tanks so that is more DPS. Raid healers love WAR pulls too because they can use Equilibrium to heal themselves for initial auto or heavy tank damage on pulls. A simple regen/shield on the pull is all they need to be sustained. So that is likely several more GCDs for both healers to DPS.
It was probably a warrior alt though even if they had A12S gear, because any true warrior will welcome pulling any boss in this game. I know I do.
A12N, WHM paired with a random WHM. She doesn't DPS at all, she spams Medica 2 when the regen has more than 15 seconds left, not a single Divine Seal+regen/m2 combo, she responds to damage 4 seconds after it happens. But it's okay, she's done it 50+ times (and gotten carried each and every single one, I'm so sure).
Meanwhile my team is undergeared and dying to every drop of a feather. Can't stop that because, well, no shields on White Mage lol.
Never again am I going White Mage in raids.
Just party with one of the worse tank i ever get, tank cant even do basic tanking stuff
- tank right in front of party, not enemy rear in front of party, so everyone move... A lot
- cant hold aggro, even just 3 enemy the tank cant even hold it, 10 seconds after pull everything just went hell
- out of mp out of tp, wait? Nope *run straight to mob/boss*
- *viewing cutscene*, tank chat "oooooh" "wow so its him!!!!" "Amazing!" "Ic so he want to do this that"... Seriously wtf why are you having "youtube react" moment?
-lalafel
By the time its done, i res him more than 7 times, i never res someone this many in a single dungeon run.
Yesterday in my first Stone Vigil, I was the horror story... we were halfway through with the dungeon when I realized I was in level 15 gear which I had on for looks but forgot to swap when I came in, then, on the last boss we wiped once, because I died to the mechanic where the boss nukes a part of the area, the second time we made it through but only because the summoner in the party raised me 4 times. To the same mechanic... ._.
But I did go back in afterwards with the same tank and redeemed myself by doing a perfect run.
Aurum Vale, always a great one - the tank had some sort of death wish and seemed to think I had unlimited reserves of mp but at least was level synced and overgeared. The real fun was the dragoon who, in typical dragoon fashion, liked standing in AOEs and the poison puddles. The best part though was their ilvl 23 top and ilvl 36 DOW pants. Every hit knocked off huge portions of their health if it didn't just one-shot them. My only dps contribution was the occasional swiftcast holy just to stop the damage briefly.
I don't appreciate tanks who think I'm bored or something when I swap to Cleric's Stance. I don't think this is a horror story, though.
Leveling roulette: Aurum Vale. One new player which was a drg. No big deal even if the first room is usually the nastiest part. Tank pulls the first three mobs, frog and two other, everything's okay, no one's in any danger and I swap to Cleric's to smack the last two mobs. They go down, and then the tank proceeds to pull the middle mobs without any care of what else they're going to aggro. Three mobs weren't enough, he wanted the next group too. Okay, I'm okay with that. Lots of healing to do, right? Well, 5 wasn't enough. He pulled more which resulted a wipe. We recover and I can barely cast protect on the tank when they dash off. This time I look at the tank, and he does exactly the same pull as last time. Only difference was that I didn't heal at all and simply let the tank and one dps die. What's the big deal with a pull like that?!? We proceeded to clear the room without a problem after that.
The room after second boss method: Pull everything. Fun, I get to be busy healing, right?
Morbol rooms: tank runs straight in and aggroes everything possible in the room, even in the second room he pulls both big morbols at the same time and we're swimming in tiny morbols as well. No wipe although it was a close call. After that I asked the tank does he really hate me using Cleric's Stance that much because he obviously tried to make it so that I couldn't use it at all. The only answer I got was a /comfort emote from the smn at that point.
So like, if I'm keeping my party alive just fine, why insist I never speed things up when I could by using my offensive toolkit? It's part of my class build. x_x/
Back in ARR I so concerned in having better gear that I was at almost lvl 50 on WHM, by the time I got to SV. I didn't know what to expect in the dungeon so I run in blind. I'm trying my best to keep up with healing the party; one of the dps is a bard and she made it her mission to chew me out once she died to Chudo. I didn't have swiftcast then since I was never advised to get it before then. Made by though as the other dps did console emote to me. But we wipe on next trash pull, chewed out once more by bard, I turn and leave the dungeon. Even if I no longer have problems with it, I still jokingly call SV my nightmare dungeon
Leveling Roulette. Vault.
Just about everyone except myself is new. I try to take a minute to explain mechanics before the tank pulls on boss #2 and #3. Long story short... on both bosses I end up being the last one standing due to ignoring mechanics standing in aoe and manage to turn the fight around by swift raising people.
I went to get a strong drink afterwards. I understand new people happen, I just wasnt ready for it.
in the middle of intense healing session
suddenly a stomach ache
got this 3 hours ago, its hell, iam not joking T_T
This happened just a few weeks ago, but I was leveling my Astralogion through the palace of the dead and decided to do the leveling ruelette which I hadn't completed yet and totally ended up in the Great Gobul Library with daystar equipment. But, it ended up working out OK, and with the entire starting party making it all the way through to the end.
