I really, really, REALLY hope you are right and they will look like a good counterpart for the males!

This line of Dialouge is both the Correct Mindset, and a consistent one.
People like Beast Races, but they are never the popular or mainstream option. A human/humanoid will always be more popular
But thats no reason to robe other people a different options outside the usual norm.
If popularity WAS a concern...you wouldnt make a beastrace to begin with. But by making one, you open your market and demographic.
Simple! Viera have been around since Tactics Advance, though arguably it was FF12 with Fran that really put them in the limelight. Viera as a whole have gotten a lot of popularity as a race within the series, but it wasn't until Yoshida unveiled concept art to integrate them into the game back in Heavensward that the race got traction and popularity within this community. Since then you had people asking for Viera, coming up with their own concept for Viera. Reddit had a post about how cool Viera would be if implemented almost monthly, and people always brought up the concept they had for males, which the franchise never featured. It was only when the Ivalice Alliance raids showed up and the Fran teased that that fan outcry boomed.
As for Hrothgar, first of all, I want to make it clear that they do have some disparity between the FF14 version and the FF10 Ronso. It's minor, but it's there. Again: you can make Fran on your own, but you cannot make Kimahri. Apart from that, Ronso only were featured in FF10 and its sequel. So Hrothgar really did come out of left field, as people who asked for Ronso to be implemented were few and far-between. Even if they were adamant about wanting it in, they weren't posting about it every other month. So when they were unveiled, it came as a surprise. For some it was a pleasant surprise, as they enjoyed Ronso or finally had a bestial race. For others, it was rather unpleasant because it meant Square wasn't adding males anytime soon, and it led to... shall we call it "issues"?
So we knew what Viera looked like, and though the males we now have don't match their original concept art, we did have a notion of what to expect with the discarded concept.
For Hrothgar, we have absolutely no idea. Female Ronsos exist in 10, but they were just background figures. A playable one with customization likely will require a lot more detail than what we were given.
To be fair, we do have a loose idea: both in the murals in Bozja and that pic ofa Miqo'teGunnhildr(?) from that one artbook, but one could argue both depictions were made before it was confirmed female Hrothgars would actually be made, and shouldn't be taken at face value.
I would say the difference is pretty pronounced. If they were close to Kimahri I'd be playing one right now, lol.
Kimahri is muscular but relatively lean compared to his height. His build is evenly proportioned and he stands completely upright.

Hrothgar meanwhile are extremely wide and top heavy with tiny heads. They look stumpy which is further emphasized by their bent legs and hunched over posture. They're more like a WoW Orc in a cat mask than an FFX Ronso. Although ironically WoW actually gives players the option to fix Orc posture if they want to.

By comparison, to Midare's point, Viera were pretty much exactly what everyone expected them to be. Their appearance has varied very little since their inception and the FFXIV version is a carbon copy of Fran which is an extremely popular character. So it was practically a given they were going to be mega popular before the devs ever started working on them.
I think Face 4 would be better to compare to Kimahri, as that one has a large horn in its forehead. But the horn is unbroken, the face looks too pudgy and the hair has absolutely no similarity to Kimahri. And, yeah, Kimahri actually can stand up straight rather than looking like he has to go to the toilet every ten seconds.
...also
:) they have that?
Yoshida, you play that darn game, what the actual [expletives that might get me permanently banned!]????
Yup. You can even turn it off and on at the barber.

A non hunch option would be a blessing, but at the same times, these are the devs that needed a whole patch cycle to figure out how to add back ears on the new hair so...
They spent a few months photoshopping ears on top of the hairstyles. Lame ones at that. Players that are taking one for the team to play the Ronso are reasonably upset.
I have the same issue with that, too. It looks ugly and kind of gross. :/
The Viera also have a similar issue. The tufts of hair around our ears just looks out of place and aweful on certain non Viera exclusive hairstyles. The tufts even clip through the few freaking head gear we have access, too! But this isn't the place to talk about Viera stuff. Just thought I'd mention it because the Hrothgar patches around the ears remind me of that. :<
I would be surprised if the female hrothgar gets the hunch treatment.
I am 99.9% certain that the females will not have hunched backs. While in wow the male Orcs had it the females didn't. What I am trying to say is that even on different games that have a beast or beast-like race the women always stay straight while the males can be hunched. Which is kind of good news? I definitely would make it an option to choose if one wants to be hunched or not.
The males do look like they would appreciate a short visit to a chiropractor. So +1 to at least give the males the option to choose to stand straight in the future.
The only way they WOULD have a hunch, is if they are bulky and Top Heavy.
And While I LOVE the idea of playing a Sexy Buff FemHroth Super Amazon....I dont think they will go that route. Probably be better that they tone it back. I still want the to be Sexy, Tall and Muscular, but Ill agree its a better route to not give them a hunch.
Even ifg I personally wouldnt MIND it.
While being able to play a male Hrothgar is, in the words of Charlton Heston, "not blowing my skirt up," I've seen some ideas here in this thread for fem Hrothgar that might.
But none of the races have ever had flawless implementations.
So when and if SE delivers fem Hrothgar, it is nearly certain they will not be flawlessly implemented.
But here in the forums, it seems to me that people make tempests over every perceived imperfection in their favorite race's implementation. Which makes one wonder, are the standards people are applying so high that SE shouldn't even bother trying to meet them?
I hope not, because it would be a damn shame if SE announced: "We didn't see a way, within the limitations of the game engine and our budget, to make a fem Hrothgar that would meet the players' expectations, so we decided to not even try." While that would piss off a lot of people and be a disappointment to even more, there's no legal reason SE couldn't do it.
Every one of us knows that they will not be without any flaws. Hey, even Miquo'tes (the most popular race) have them. I don't think it's asking for perfection or asking too much when we say to make them a fit counterpart for the males. It leaves a lot of space for imagination. They could even look at some art and randitions of the community on Twitter, Google and even here. People have been pretty concise in what they want them to be.
As long as you can put them next to the males and make them look like their female counterparts. Most people will like them.
Shame but it's looking more and more like we won't know more about the females until 7.0 or at least until teased in one of the shows upcoming before xpac. I hope they're something I would like to play so we'll see. I suspect that no matter what they do they won't please everyone but come on SE give us something to look at. One can dream but realistically probably won't happen until a trailer with the race is ready to roll I suspect.
Honestly, Pip_Chick, I only really care whether I like them.
If I do, then I can be the only one playing one, and that's fine. :)
I've already got my Viera for when I want to run a drop-dead gorgeous exotic variant of a human being. I'm not going to waste a Fantasia on more of the same.*
*Unless it's Shiva. For that figure, yeah, I'd use a Fantasia, and endure a paucity of appropriate glams.
...but we know this though o,o we wrote as much before, it's only a couple pages back.
What we want is for Square to be a bit more open. Not necessarily give us any design just yet, but give us an idea of what path they're taking. To temper expectations. Because last time they chose to proceed blindly on Hrothgars, they had to come out publicly and say "We are surprised by your reactions, we were not expecting them". Well, if they pay attention to what we're saying, hopefully their decisions will match our expectations and the reactions will be less unexpected. If not, then comment and temper them. If they don't do that, then they'll get another round of "unexpected reactions", and at that point, the joke's entirely on them.
xD isn't this a bit selfish?
Im curious to how many people who support this are actually going to change from catgirl to bigger catgirl?...
Good news!
If those female Miqo'te aren't interested in female Hrothgar, then they won't find an interest in this thread :) So odds are the ones here are the ones who will. Especially for a race as "unpopular" as this one.
There's your confirmation, just give or take a small margin of error.
PS: The same was said when your race came out.
Naked self-interest is probably the only true honesty.
I have twelve alts. I can have 52 more without leaving the data center.
And 10 of my 12 alts still have the free Fantasia the got for completing ARR.
So I might change, although not necessarily one of my Miqo'te.
Or I might just create another alt.
Or I might not have a fem Hrothgar at all, if what SE makes them doesn't interest me.
Time will tell. Two years is easily enough time for a change in plans.
I see where you're coming from, but what could they possibly show or be more open about without revealing their design?
I mean the whole male Hrothgar fiasco basically boiled down to them having stupid limitations. They hopefully will know by now that people are expecting much more in that regard.
With Draggo, we got Yugiri in 2.2 and with Veria we got Fran in 4.5 iirc. Femroe? According to Wika, "Merlwyb was developed for the Seventh Umbral Era storyline, being the first female Roegadyn to be introduced into the game. The fan community often mistook Merlwyb for an Elezen for her height, build, and proud demeanor. Female Roegadyns had not been widely known to exist until they were announced as a playable Roegadyn gender in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn."
So the most I could see them doing, outside of the art they've already shown, is showing us a unique NPC that depicts what to expect with a face you can't pick. Any changes they're willing to make, like the Male Viera Hunch that they fixed/ reduced from that of the benchmark, is prob nothing that would be fundamental and would be animation focused.
Basically, if we don't see them in a patch trailer as new and important NPCs then just expect to see the full reveal at a fanfest.
If that's really true about Merlwyb, then maybe the first female Hrothgar introduced in the game will be the new Queen of Bozja, or at least a potential candidate.
Assuming they want to go down that path. We know that they're not going for the old system and have preferred to make a constitution based on Garlean rule. Whether this means they'll be a republic or if they'll Magna Carta their Queen remains to be seen.
...actually, now I kinda want to see something like Bozja Restoration. To help promote Female Hrothgar a bit more after so long of them not being present.
I'm not exactly sure how the UK works, but maybe it could be like that: The monarchy are still around, but only really handle interactions with world leaders, while the goverment part handles making and upholding laws, etc.
So maybe a new Bozjan Queen could be brought about like that, but they wouldn't hold all the power in their country.
That would be neat. So far, it doesn't seem like Hrothgar women exist outside of Bozja and who knows where they are inside now. So it would be neat to see the main main quest givers and stuff be partially made up of female Hrothgar for the Bozja Restoration, if we ever get one. It would also make for a great opportunity to learn more about Bozjan culture.:3
+1 for that, it would be a great way to see them as a teaser! And a Bozjan restoration would be a cool piece of content. But then it will come to whether it would be like the Ishgardian restoration craft-focused or more like a pest removal more battle-focused. It would be a great idea either way. :)
It all depends on if they look good to me. I was one of the people begging for Viera after Draggos were revealed, but the end result's animations are too dry for me to stay a female Veira given their head limits.
My standards are pretty much set on "Look feminine and have good/ interesting/ fun animations". The art we have now has me not worried about their appearance, the animations for Male Viera and Hrothgar gives me hope for their animations.
