I'm gonna go with lazy, I've lost count of how many can't be arsed pricks I get in the 24mans who just sit there barely doing anything.
So I was doing my lvl 60 roulette and got in antitower. The party was of last/deg/blm/old (me). In the beginning everything was alright and everything was killed in a regular speed. When we got to the first boss and we started to attacked, half way to kill the boss the dmg started to reduced immensely. We continued marching ahead and when I pulled and got all the adds together to give the change to the blm to AOE and LB, he took 3 mins to get the mobs to half HP. We killed the adds but took forever. As we were going to the second boss, we asked to the pt in general what happened the dmg looks so low. Everybody started to check their gears, and it was there when the blm noticed all his right side was broken as well his boots and his other gears set were in very poor condition.
Good thing he said. I'm sorry guys for slowly everybody down. I'm gonna leave and let other dps help you all with his roulette.
Here is the senerio I main drg n pld I decided to do a lvl 50 dr as my drk and I get AK hard mode. I failed so hard I wiped the party twice from the second pull I was just so embraced after the second wipe I just said to the group I'm so sorry I'm a bad drk and I quit the dr. After a few minutes I gather my pride together and re-login this time back on my trusty pld and attempt another lvl 50 dr and to my surprise I get AK hard mode again I smile and laugh to myself and think this must be the system giving me a chance to redeem myself, I won't let myself fail again. I lead the charge and clear the dungeon no wipes, no problems. Would also like to apologize to those I was with while on my drk if you ever read this.
This was my duty finder fail story.
This is my story

And that's why I stopped queuing for Crystal Tower when I used to be on a NA server people being assholes, people trolling or Alliance tanks fighting for aggro rather than do the superior JP strat where B always main tanks. NA's should really take lessons from JP raids, not seen any screw ups in LoTA, worst I've seen is people not stay on atomos platforms for a few seconds.
My apologies to the party I was just in for Antitower, my internet died.
So according to this thread those guys who complain about you as a healer for using Medica and Medica II are common. I come from highend wow so its almost an involuntary reaction to leave some HoT or protection on the tank before the pulls. Then this one day I forgot and applied regen on the tank and immediately apologized. He said it was ok because its easy to take back the hate and he also said that I shouldn't be afraid to use medica II. He was one of the best tanks I've met on DF.
To be fair, a tank who is paying attention can easily just...Turn off the regen buff before he pulls. The issue is some people never learn when you should and shouldn't use it. Using Medica II mid-fight for the heal is okay, using it pre-pull is asking to get yourself squished. Regen is less of an issue since it's just on one target (I hope?), and a good tank will get hate back off, but it could still be an issue depending on your tank in question.
Agreed it take 1 clic to throw away the regen before pull
I got so many whm that try to re-apply it 5 time in a row when I turn it off
And the most hilarious one are pissed and start telling to me to stop taking it off before a pull so he could slack
*Rolleyes*
Also... S-rank popping when i'm in duty happends everytime
And that's missing me off
Even if I already finished my 3 anima relics
Protection is 100% fine, definitely encouraged. Alot of tanks I encounter in the Duty Finder seem to believe they are Sonic the Hedgehog however and barely wait for a Protect to be cast before sprinting off. If I had a penny for the amount of times I cast Eye for an Eye on a tank just as he/she is storming into a trash pack...eugh.
I got kicked from a duty these days as a PLD because I asked the healer and the BLM not to freak out if they somehow pulled aggro. I rarely have that issue but sometimes when a healer pulls aggro by accident or someone that's ranged, thet just get away from the tank instead of gettin the mob close so whoever's tanking can get it back without moving a whole pull out of AoEs or making it uncomfortable to the melee dps.
BLM then said: "That's not my problem." and after everything died I was vote kicked. I did a quick player research and both he and the healer are from the same server, same FC, so they obviously outnumber vote kicks on the melee dps that was solo que. Should I count this as a vote-dismiss exploit? Because honestly all I did was try to catch back the aggro from a healer and a BLM that poped sprint running away from me all the time. Sometimes they even pulled with aero or swiftcast+something.
Was the first time something like that ever happened to me and it left a bitter taste in my mouth.
I would most definitely they say they were trolling you and effectively abusing the vote kick system since they know they'd automatically outnumber and get rid of you when they were the ones in the wrong.
Its like when I'm on SMN or BLM or just any of my DPS and I pull aggro, I will run towards the tank if I am able or if its an options immediately use Quelling Strikes.
Nothing irritates me more when I'm on my tank and the dps or healer run further away from me thinking it'll stop them dying to the mob, when coming towards me would be more beneficial to me getting the enmity back.
A friend of mine (main DRK, sub-main SCH) is dragging me into roulettes to, uhm, (try to) make me a braver tank recently. So when we did 60 roulette together he insisted of having me as the tank, so I went on dark knight, he was on scholar and blergh, Neverreap. Never tanked that before (as almost every other 60 roulette dungeon LOL). But I know the dungeon pretty well and I wanna gain more confidence in my tanking, right? So, big pulls it is *scared* and it worked! I was so proud of myself! And then I hit autorun during the final boss fight and ran straight off the platform! Suicide whee!
After this, 50 roulette, this time I was on warrior, we ended up in Haukke Manor HM with a dragoon pulling before me. I said "Yay, I even tanked that dungeon once before, but then there was nobody pulling before me!", while scholar friend was pretty angry at the dragoon, saying "wanna learn how to fly!?". Dragoon asked why we're in such a bad mood, but we didn't answer. It's obvious why I'm in a bad mood when I tank and have a prepuller in my party. At the final boss, both DPS ignored the first add. Bard died to the roomwide aoe, the rest was very low on HP but scholar friend managed to get us back up. When the two Maidservant adds appeared, I marked them with 1 and 2 - the dragoon stayed with the boss and the bard hit the add marked with 2 ;_; Things were close but we managed to clear - but seriously, then you even ask why we're in a bad mood!?
Then we did mainscenario roulette, and during the queue I said that I should remove the F from my DF - I activated it some time before to join a friend's party in progress - because I made a lot of bad experiences with French players (not saying all Frenchies are bad, mind you). Duty popped up, scholar friend writ "there are idiots in every country, and we Germans are even worse than Frenchmen, we're arrogant!". At this moment, we were already in the party, stuck at the loadscreen, so everyone could read that message, and someone answered "so, Germans are arrogant, eh?" The duty finally loaded up, we were in Prae, I opened the party menu and oh boy, full German party LOL. Party was paladin and warrior, WHM and scholar, two BLMs, a bard and a machinist, paladin popped Shield Oath and went on maintanking, scholar friend said "hey Aru, move on, <paladin name> is stealing your show!" - he thought I was still on warrior, but I switched to machinist because I don't tank MSQ roulette :D This party was quite chatty, so all I did was pretty much placing my aoe turret and then making fun comments about machinist's design, at the second boss someone asked the BLMs to LB pull and I said "no I want, because LASER!", on elevators I placed my aoe turret, made it sing its Ballad thingie and said "whee, lightshow!", and more things about LASERS and PEWPEWPEW. We all had a good laugh, I commented on my level-up (I hit lv54) with "yay more PEWPEW" and got two comms for talking utter bullshit :D
It's a decent strat that works, B always main tank because they start in the middle and then A and C deal with the secondary mechanics like for example when Fighting Cerberus in World of Darkness, B will tank it, and A will deal with the flower enemy while C go inside the stomach to weaken the boss, it's a pretty flawless way of raiding in 24 man dungeons and I don't know why the NA's haven't adopted it, not taking the piss, it just really works and saves to time calling out who's MT and fighting for it.
If I'm tanking, and a DPS or healer decide to pull for me, I just let them keep the mob. They moan about it later, but my thing is "You pull, you tank." Usually after they see I don't make any effort to take the mob off them, they stop pulling.
Sounds like the two you got were real winners. I can't stand people who abuse the vote kick system. Like it's one thing if you're just a bad tank. But if you're doing everything properly and they continue to purposely rip aggro or pull for you, that's different. And I do hate when they run away. I always try to take the mobs to the tank if I accidentally pull from them. Just common courtesy to not make your tank run from one end of the dungeon to the other just to pull back a mob.
Some stuff at times makes you stare at your computer for a few sec wondering if you were coupled with Aliens. I was in M1N as a healer, my co-healer was on bomb with a DPS. We wiped twice bombs exploded on our faces..Someone asked twice who was on bombs nobody answered and I was kicked. I still dont have a clue why I was kicked, nobody asked me to do bombs (they were 2 already), nobody said to me I did something wrong, in fact nobody said anything...but I was kicked. I was in there with a friend that right after I was kicked said the group disbanned and abandonned. I mean ....yeah...but well is good to know why oyu get kicked. I asked my friend if someone had told me somethign that I didnt see..could have been the answer was no....nobody said a word other then* who is on bombs*.
I'll never understand bards who don't use foe's when paired with a mage and a dps healer. Yes, let's sit on our MP.
Was doing LotA on Tuesday. Got told by someone, in my party, via Alliance chat, to stop provoking KB.
I'm on a BLM. ._. I don't even have access to voke. I was ripping hate despite using Quelling repeatedly.
Also I kidnapped Reila into my FC and brought 'em along for the 24mans. :^)
You know, maybe I have just been lucky so far, but almost every Duty Finder group I have been in, the people have been incredibly friendly. Even tanking for my first few dungeons, the people were very understanding and helpful. It's very refreshing!
Just had an Antitower (at least the beginning of it) and I am very very confused...
Zone in and it is me (SCH), NIN and BLM dps, and a DRK. NIN says hello, BLM and myself say hello while DRK says nothing. I sorta chuckle to myself because DRK has mentor crown and I am thinking how it is amusing that the only anti-greeter is the one signed up to help people. Oh well, whatever. We clear the trash to first boss and then we kill the first boss. After chest is looted distributed tank says "You guys are the worst DPS I have seen in my life. Goodbye." Trash didn't take any longer than I am used too... boss died shortly after the 2nd frog phase which is pretty much what every group I have ever been in does. Have I just been in terrible groups all along and not known it? Lol. We waited a bit but didn't get a new tank so one of the DPS issued a Vote Abandon... I feel bad for them, but more than that I am just confused about what was bad about their DPS.
Probably cus they know we have to work together to take it out, where as NA is more like "I am better than you, I got this!"
Personally I think stuff like that needs to auto force a removal of the mentoring. I can only imagine how he acts in the roulette itself.
I think the general consensus now is that healers are supposed to take care of the bombs. I don't do Alex much because people get way to angry in there over nothing, but the runs I've done, one healer managed to take care of all the bombs while the other continued to heal the tank/party. Maybe they were expecting you both to do bombs? Who knows.
I one time got yelled at for not doing bombs (as a BRD) on my second run of A5N. I was like ???? at the SMN who had actually stopped DPSing just to yell at me over bombs. I enjoyed Gordias because people didn't get so uptight there, but it seems every time I run a Midas floor, someone gets butthurt over something.
Sorry they were such dicks to you.
Did the vault yday. And this ninja didnt dps at all and took aggro and started to harrass us. After 5 min we kicked him and completed the dungeon.
And today i did the great libary. This tank was aggrisive rude because the dragoon accidently got close to the trash mobs and started to attack him. And this tank was very rude and had a vert bad day. Like if u got a bad day and get angry after 1 mistake. Just dont do df and dont let ur anger spit all over us.:) thanks:)
Did leveling roulette(was sohm al) earlier on a old PS3(being away from home sucks!) when I was asked during second boss "Why didn't you LB the uber slime?" At that point I noticed something really wrong as I didn't see a lot of things I was supposed to see. The PS3 died after the run -.- Having to target the tank to see invisible mobs due to the dying PS3 was horrible.
Today it was a funny roulette expert... My friend just changed her SMN bars to control her pets more but it was silly cause she kept summoning titan by accident and would keep cursing, glad our random tank seemed to just laugh with us every time she did it.
Interesting A5 as MNK....the MCH pulls Twinkledinks & pops every buff so the tanks couldn't get aggro back for the 3 attacks it took to kill the MCH, healer raises, MCH sits there dead, says nothing.
I continue to fight until I see the MCH's raise wear off at the first Boost...I ask if we can wipe to kick them so they can't roll for doing nothing, everyone agrees, replaced w/ BLM & we win.
I just...what even...huh?
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Some people just can't tolerate any sort of critique that might suggest they did something wrong. I've found a lot of people panic run if a mob breaks aggro and targets them. WHMs have Fluid Aura for a reason. And above that, it'll make life easier on everyone if you just run near the tank so they can grab them again.
Yeah I figured they must have been trolling. But it still frustrates me that some people thinks it's better to just run away instead of lettin the tank enmity-AoE the whole thing.
Another thing that I see happening a lot with PLDs is that in case someone is about to be hit by single target mechanics, and the PLD uses Cover to, well... cover, that person rather to break the link because of whatever instead of just stay close and let the tank absorb the damage. I know not everyone is interested on playing tanks and I can understand that, but I think it's nice to take some time and research the skills of the jobs you'll be working with during your gaming experience. Not only for cover mechanics, but also for other jobs as well. On the subject, I contacted a GM about that episode and provided log proofs of what happened and it seems like it's taken care of, as well as being proved it was a vote-kick abuse (that those two have been doing for quite some time already).
Level 50 roulette, get Keeper of the Lake, no wipes, except from NIN/MNK dying in AoE. We crushed Middy, I got 3 comms. Yay!
Levelling roulette, get Aery, "Oh shit" I say. After the fiasco from the other day, I was shitting bricks. BUT! It goes extremely well, 1 DPS died due to AoEs and shit, but it was a great run! We get to Nidhogg and proceed to crush him. We pulverized him. Unfortunately no WHM drops, but the MCH weapon drops, which I would've liked, as I'm going to level it, but lost :c no comms, but nevertheless, still happy with that run!
Trial roulette on my warrior, I get the Hydra. While Protect and Stoneskin are cast, I watch the other warrior if he pops Defiance. He doesn't, so I do and pull. I watch the enmity bars and notice the other warrior doesn't even have one, in fact he's still standing at our spawn point, doing nothing. Oh well. Add spawns, OT is doing nothing, so I grab it and tank both boss and add, with the latter not getting down because everyone gets panicked ;_; A second add spawns, OT is still doing nothing, I grab this one too, then I see OT finally contributes to the fight... as a 5th DPS slaying the boss rather than one of the adds. Some moments later one of the adds is finally dead - as well as our party, I don't know what happened but I'm the last man standing, the boss is at 45%.
Have you ever seen a wipe in the Hydra fight? I didn't. Until now. ;_;
The ninja calls me out for pulling too early because the OT (they obviously belong together, same last name, ridiculous first name refering to Dragonball) went to the toilet. Uh, and none of you was able to type something like "brb" or "wait a sec"? I don't say anything because everything I would have been able to say at this moment would have been something along the lines of "wanna have my axe in your face?", and the OT pulls, making himself the new MT. I grab adds, things go down slowly again, but they do go down. After a clear I normally type a short but friendly "thx all", but this time I just wanna leave immediately to not have to deal with this other tank longer than neccessary. Unfortunately I still read his "learn to tank noob" in the moment I leave.
This happened 3 days ago and I'm still like MY AXE IN YOUR FACE, I just wanna... NGHAAAAH
...did I mention that tanking makes me aggressive?
Had a lovely run of Quarn last right. Was a situation I usually find myself in, Miq'ote surrounded by Lalas :P My bf is levelling his DRK and me WHM, load in with a NIN and a MCH and the NIN (I believe) let's us know he's knew and since I quite fancy being a mentor one day and i'd brought home a slightly better USB keyboard I started to type "not to worry, we wont go too quick and i'll let you know anything you need to".
Unfortunately I had a few incidences when I forgot things like "oh crap sorry, the stone heads need to die on the panels!" but luckily he was very switched on and noticed my bf was trying to keep them on there so he realised anyway. 1st boss "So this guy does doom when he roars, one of the squares will light up" and before I could type my next sentence "so step on them to remove and remember the adds as usual" he said "oh like in -insert other similar dungeon here-" (it was late and I can't remember >.<). Basically, he was great, once we'd explained the bosses he'd be like "LETS DOOO THIISSS" and we'd run in. Was the most fun i've had in Quarn ever :D
The MCH did a great job too so I checked who my bf was commending at the end and commended the other guy, I got both when we left :P makes up for the last time I was healing with bf and he got all the comms even though I healed and dps'd my arse off on the last boss. (It was insane!)
No! We all have to be mind readers! :P
Seriously though that sucks and surely if you queue tank you kinda have to go into that communication mindset more than any other job (apart from heals) and let your fellow tank know how you're going to coordinate with them... If only to be polite :/
I had a similar tank on my first run of Dusk Vigil, luckily they stuck around to the end so at least we got to finish but just typed "you guys seriously need to work on your DPS" and instantly left... Like ok?? :(
Having read a load on here now I understand some people might be reluctant to give advice if it isn't generally well received but I know I need to learn and i'm willing to take any tips i'm given!! :'(
EDIT: And in complete agreement with AlphaFox - Square should really monitor the mentors. I don't know how they'd go about it but still. From what I understand you can turn the crown symbol off correct? So surely if you're just in a crappy mood (as i'm kind of hoping this guy was and he's not just like that all the time!? poor mentees!) you turn it off and stay quiet...
This one... well it was the outright worst run of ARF I've ever had. And I usually have NO difficulties with the dungeon. I consistently ripped hate from the PLD as SMN and the other dps wasn't doing a good job, a MNK. Then the healer... ok the healer was fine until the ending. When we finally reached the end, the healer dced in the Ascian Prime fight after going down due to an aoe. The MNK then went down... then the PLD and I nearly was able to clutch it but we all died. Then the PLD informed me they were all in a skype call and the healer and dps were not returning because they were raging... From one wipe. So I tried to get rid of the disconnected healer but the tank negated it then left. I couldn't kick the other 2 due to having no one else in and the MNK was actively negating my kick of the dced healer.
I was lucky enough to get a tank in who helped me remove the MNK and then the Healer and we were able to clear. What really saddens me is the tank claimed this was the healer and dps' first time in the dungeon. I do not like their chances later on if THIS was their reaction to one wipe.
