Sorry SE, but endgame won't work if you don't fix something.

i kind of agree the latency issues are an issue obviously they are not fixing it, so we are having to deal with it, but the latency can get really bad at busy times, but those are the times you want to do dungeons and raids right.

Lag is killing alot of players, not everyone has fiber and even some with it probably have problems, its been said before but Europe could really use Europe data centers, at least then if we fail, its us being slow
not the latency.

I'm in the US and played on NA datacenter. Trust me when I say it's not just the EU players experiencing this. The netcode for this game is abhorrent. My ISP isn't fantastic (cable 1.2mbps down, .6mbps up) but I don't experience this in any other game.

If SE still hasn't fixed this issue when the sub start, I ll just quit and back to play WoW.
Vote with your wallet like how FF14 1.0 ended so SE will fix and improve their game.

What is the point of continuing playing a game when what I would do is memorizing boss scripted pattern, anticipating and keep moving before the boss using 1-shoted attack on me and pray that I wont get hit by it BECAUSE what I see on my screen is just false.

Titan HM is not hard, but the problem with Titan HM is the challenge is not against the boss it self, the challenge is against the broken positioning check system.

Can't wait to hear the news about "FFXIV: The Reborn of The Realm Reborn" next year.

There is something wrong with that fight. If I wait till I see the red line its too late. This is the only fight I have trouble getting out of the aoe so I dont think Im lagging. The only way I could beat it is to keep moving all the time. That way I know if he is casting at me but im not seeing it yet Ill still be sure to be moving out of it.

This needs to be emphasized. If Titan is the only fight where Im having the issue, then its not my internet.

Seems you're living in the US and playing in NADC so I assume there's no serious lag problem. I pretty much invested on desktop PC so I guess I don't have hardware issues. How about your spec of PC?

It's said that the timing to decide whether you take the AoE hit or not is right on when the red disappears.
Considering the micro second lag(somehow no matter where you are), you can say it happens right before the red disappears.

In other words, you can get back to the red as soon as it disappears without taking any hit, even it looks you're totally cooked lol
If there's no problem with your PC, you can check if it's really so for you next time.:)

P.S. Try to run first whatever you do as soon as you see the red.:cool:

fiber doesnt really help anything on this game.
I'm from europe and i got fiber connection, and the bosses inside the dungeon have there aoes lagging like hell..
But the bosses from fates, with over 100 people on screen and FPS drastically lowered duo to that, have theres aoes working much better. (so its not a pc problem)

the connection lantency(100~120ms in my case) + the 300ms lag (that yoshi thinks is acceptable) + dungeons server = around 1 second delay -.- Unacceptable!!

As sad as it sounds, anyone able to reason and use logic, should reach this same conclusion. Yet still one can rationalize (maybe SE didn't think we care about this? or maybe..) and hope for a change.

As long as you are out of the aoe mark or w/e is the indication of incoming damage and have STOPED moving at least once outside said mark you should not get hit at all. ever. if you do you got lags.

It's not possible if you started to cast a spell non instant. If you have to interrupt your spell to move out, your position is still considered inside casting. You have to do an instant spell when out. On such a short time, it's an extremely uneasy thing to do.

Here's my suggestion for solving this:
1. Get the client to send a position update when the player clears the red area.
2. The server calculates whether the player takes damage when it receives the first position report after the cast completes (obviously there would have to be a timeout on this, if no position update is received then the last known position is used).

This does not require major changes to the software or put more load on the server like reducing the update period to 0.1 second would.

I've seen a few people says this works, so maybe all that we need is:
1. Get the client to send a position update when the player clears the red area.

While I totally do understand and mostly agree with that point, as a caster, I'm rarely targeting the boss. I simply have to go by the animation. the animation should match the cast bar. That's ALL there is to it. No circle, AoE, Line or Box should ever be displayed for even a single 10th of a second after the cast bar is finished. If it takes 2 seconds to cast a move, the visual indicator should be there for exactly 2 seconds.

About server bad refreshment on position.
Square didn't made those aoe on the ground to be pretty, they are part of the strategy to help players not to be randomly one shot. They are part of the battle fight. This isn't normal that a big part of the mechanism isn't working.
Please before commenting you should read Yoshi's post about the issue.

You are suggesting we make our chars move faster?

Please tell us how you do this, because the only way would be to hack the client. Is that what you do?

I bet the extreme modes will have a server check every 0.6 second.

Hi guys, I am from the middle east, me and all my FC members are facing the same problem.
our latency is above 200ms, which is absolutely horrible and makes Titan a nightmare for us.
we have started to use battleping to lower our latency, its helping but not that much. we need an official fix from SE. Atleast, think of moving EU server to UK? that way we will not have to use apps like battleping/lowerping to play the game.

unfortunately most of the problem lies in the game itself 200ms is just a fraction of the problem

Won't make a difference. All duties are being held in the JP servers from what I have seen.

I'm sorry if this has been posted, but I'm not going to read 305 pages lol.

As far as I know, the problem is the delay between the Cast and the AoE graphic. If you look at the Cast Time Bar above the Monster's HP bar, you will realise the AoE animation starts when that Cast Bar is filled up. BUT, the AoE graphic will start vanishing AFTER the Cast Bar is filled up (so basically, when the AoE is being cast).

Solution would be to have the AoE graphic timer vanishing a little before the Cast Bar is filled up.

As most of you already know, instant off gcd abilities are not going off instantly if you have just used any other ability, so I find it strange that actually boss mechanics require your interrupts to be instant, but combat mechanics not providing it as seen in the video:

Thanks for adding this to the discussion. I think this fits here too because the root problem I think is the same. The netcode needs to be optimized more for more fluid gameplay.

Hmmm, I've done titan well over 100 times and I've died a total of maybe 3 or 4 times? A couple of those were also due to bad meteor timing on my part.

That being said, maybe you should just...play better? >.>;

I really hope this game doesn't succumb to the crying of the forums. I will be highly disappointed if this simply becomes FFXIV; World of Warcraft edition. The current end game content almost demands perfect play, and that's the way it should be.

Please help us. Go to an interaction object and run fraps or something similar. Now right click the interaction object and wait for the interaction bar to start.

Put the video up for us to see and show us that the server lag does not affect you. We can also let the developers know because they are under the mistaken impression that it is their software.

If you do that and prove us all wrong then I will happily admit it. I've made plenty of mistakes in my life and I could be completely wrong about this problem.

Wow that first video is bad lag, really bad, that is just not fair. The second one, is normal, you hesitated there for a second and that got you in the end. I know, the timing is a bitch, you have to move the instant the plumes appear and not stop.

I have run this fight many times, me and my FC do it pretty much daily with no problems since we are "trained" now. BUT having said that, i do agree that the timing you need is borderline unfair. It's extremely hard to dodge all the plumes, bombs or landslides even on a relatively fast connection (105ms ping here) i get caught in the odd plume or what i have most problems with, the bombs.

I think a slight tuning giving it half a second more to dodge would not hurt the fight at all and maybe give people with worse connections a chance.

I don't think they need to add more time, they just need the client to send a position update when you clear the aoe.

Having said that there is an interesting point here. These encounter's are designed and tested in Japan with maybe 20-30ms ping time (guessing). After all the server lag is taken into account they allow a certain amount of time for the player to react.

If they allow 400ms to react that seems pretty good. Human reaction time is around 200ms so that's double what most people need. So they allow 200ms of extra time, sounds pretty good.

So now someone playing with 100ms ping time will have the allowed time reduced to 320ms minus human reaction time leaving 120ms of extra time. That's nearly half what they had in Japan.

At 200ms ping time the allowed reaction is now 220ms, minus human reaction time leaves 20ms of extra time.

Over 200ms ping and you now have to react faster than the normal human reaction time. Houston I think we may have a problem.

edit: the point I'm making here is that making an encounter "hard" by testing the player's reaction time can't work when player's have different ping times.

The game should be testing that you know what to do, not that you can react at super-human speeds (when your ping time goes over 200ms).

There was a slight hesitation in his movement; however, it does show how out of sync the game is. He could have reacted faster but there is absolutely no reason why his death should happen SO far away from the AoE. If you get hit by AoE you should die in the AoE. Not after running 10 yalms and then the client being told you got hit.

Where do you see your ping btw? I know where the 'traffic' meter is, but that doesn't really tell me what I want to know since it fluctuates all over the shop.

In Windows 7 right click the task bar at the bottom, select Start Task Manager

In the Performance tab click the Resource Monitor button.

In the resource monitor select the Network tab

Look for ffxiv in the TCP connections list

The Latency column shows the ping time
