You really should!
I love people who can apologize / move on. I mean everyone has something to get hot over but letting the heat go is also good.
I'm also pretty sad panda about not getting in but hey we got the 5th :D, and then the 7th and then 9th .. (until they stop alpha) lol. If all else fails everyone rerolls to get into beta and there will be a lot more there :P
'Active account' is different than current player.
Active account is someone that has registered FFXIV to their Square enix account, current player = someone who is paying for a subscription... Atleast that's how I read it, and how it's seemed to play out :x
It makes /no/ sense to pull up people for alpha that can't physically run the game, pulling people that can play it and haven't paid for xiv in a while is totally different :x
Haha thank you!! :D
Do not worry yourself over it, I feel you and I know it sucks not getting picked. It's nothing personal, invites will go to whom they will. I'm sure you'll get picked at some point D: so until then use this time to get fat on marshmallows, make towel art, learn to cook or do anything that'll take your mind off it^^
That excuse has already been debunked long ago Nix, while some people continue to repeat it like a mantra to hide what's obviously a rather large mistake.
For several weeks after the alpha registration process started whoever tried to register to the alpha with a lapsed account got bounced with a (I paraphrase) "Your account is not active, piss off".
After a while, no one knows precisely when, it started accepting them.
So either you think Square Enix suddenly changed its collective mind about what "active" means (which is also the industry standard for P2P MMORPGs. It's not open to interpretation, it's equivalent to "Current player" period) and didn't even think to communicate this sudden and mysterious change of heart, or "active" simply means what it should and what does everywhere in the industry (Current Player), and allowing access to those with lapsed account was a very unfortunate (and just a tad unfair) mistake.
Honeslty I don't know what to think @_@ haha, my husband was able to apply with an unpaid account, but to be honest I was never really that bothered that they accepted people with unpaid accounts, it's just one of those things D: and me getting bent out of shape won't fix it.
If it was a rather large mistake, then SE certainly is a bit silly for allowing it to take place, but me getting mad won't reverse the situation :(.
I just hope that more people that really want to test get accepted into alpha so there's a lot fewer hurt feelings on these forums :p
Stay cool guys~
Is this the crying thread for ppl that didn't get in? I wanna join in the fun ; ;
Actually accepting only people with active accounts would be the worse choice, dunno why people are so mad about this... -.-
Questioning why you didn't get in is just an exercise in futility, you guys are causing undue stress to yourselves, if you really have 24/7 to play you should spend some of that time jogging so you don't have a heart attack or stroke from stress
Well invite periods certainly make people break out their best vocabulary and grammar so they be snarky when discussing why or why not an invite was received. It makes for good reading.
I tell myself when we're all playing beta and then release, we won't care about any of this crap. Forgotten memory. Since I won't care later, I can't get mad now. Not about testing an extremely incomplete version.
Because when a rule is set, it's not a good thing to break it. It's also not good to communicate something to paying customers and then not honor it.
Also, accepting only people with active accounts ensures an higher percentage of quality testing. The more you open a test, the higher percentage of beta hoppers you get (people that subscribe to every available beta just to have a new game, no matter how polished, to play for a few hours, before they move to the next, without providing any feedback or actual testing).
For the earliest testing the *only* way to do it right is to include only people that can bring a high level of dedication. Which in this case is pretty much equivalent to active subscribers.
It is a cruddy feeling. It is understandable. I know when I didn't get one I was thinking of how many rocks it would take to break all of SE's windows. Alas it's a system we have to work with. Though I feel like I have a better chance on getting a Darklight body piece on a offline server than getting an alpha invite, haha.
LOL

to not consider it is illogical
Active subscribers aren't the only ones who can bring a high level of dedication. In fact it's quite possible(and probable in this case) that using too many active subscribers will confound the results of any testing, as they are much more probable to have too much of an emotional investment in the game and series as a whole, which could hinder the devs from creating something new and unique that ALL players could enjoy.
Of course Yoshi P has stated that the alpha really is just a stress and bug reporting test mostly, but let's be completely honest: who here genuinely just wants to test the game and "help the devs out"(as people have been saying), and who just wants to get their grubby little entitled hands on a playable build? Not pointing fingers here, but you all know who you are, and trying to spin it in a way to put the devs through some kind of undue guilt trip or what have you is both obvious and offensive.
ARR Addicts* O,.,O LOL

Alpha sounds like work ._. What if I don't wanna run around with giant masses of people?
Then again... what if I do?.... GIMME MY DAMN INVITE!
Indeed
Here are those who got the invite:

So lucky!
My cat is laughing at all of you who didn't get in.
....including me.
It's simply a matter of percentages. Between active subscribers you can pretty much be sure that there won't be beta hoppers. Between inactive ones, you can be sure as hell that there will be many. The overall level of dedication is simply on another order of magnitude.
Nope. Active players don't necessarily have a positive preconception towards ARR, there are a lot that are very skeptical, as this forum proves every day.Quote:

They know the problems of 1.0 very well, and probably have discussed it ad nauseam between themselves, thus being able to provide feedback on the possible solution of those problems in ARR.
On the other hand, beta hoppers bring nothing to the picture other than a warm body to keep a login spot busy for a couple hours.
As a matter of fact, the percentage of people that want to genuinely help is, beyond any possible doubt, much higher between active subscribers than between those that kicked the game into the curb as soon as it wasn't free anymore.Quote:

This, of course, not mentioning the fact that there's really nothing wrong with wanting to see the game after waiting so long. You, as usual, improperly use the term "entitled" as negative. As a matter of fact, it can be easily argued that those that supported the game thus far deserve to be the first to see its rebirth, and to give their feedback, over those that simply didn't care.
That's why I love kickstarter. When you support a game there you don't get called "entitled" and you do get rewarded for your support, and that's why I support as many projects there as I can.
Like it or not, we basically kickstarted ARR (or at least helped). There's nothing wrong with feeling some entitlement out of it. Absolutely nothing.
Sarcasm is a bitch when you cant see / hear the person lol. I didnt take Rex's response as taking what he quoted serious (convoluted he said she said they said sentence right here.. lol).
But.. who knows XD. Thats why its so important for being able to move on and why I was like "I love you Faiyez".
We are going to get hurt, just matters we can still be friends afterwards.
I did sigh sadly at my empty inbox but I'm not gonna cry about it. I have bigger worries this week :p
YOU'RE A LEGACY MEMBER. YOU GET A DISCOUNTED RATE FOR THE GAME'S SUBSCRIPTION. YOU'VE BEEN PUTTING IN INPUT FOR 2 YEARS. YOU'LL GET INTO BETA. YOU'LL GET A UNIQUE CHOCOBO. YOU'LL GET A COOL TATTOO.Quote:
