Just because a large percentage of players dropped off doesn't mean content is completely undoable.

1 billion players is also 3% of a larger number.

1 million players is 3% of a larger number.

3 players is 3% of a larger number.

You can still have a playable game if those 1 million players all play in roughly the same time period.

The % in the drop off in the given time frame along with the drop in twitch viewership doesn't make the game look good. It means there may be some design philosophies in New World that weren't such good choices.

You created a conclusion that no one directly made. The surge of popularity in FFXIV is due to social media. The game loosing most of its population through out an expansion because of bad game philosophy.

This bad game philosophy is pretty much the copy pasted patches we get with less content than we ever had gotten before. Dungeons being copy pasted products of 2 pulls and a boss x3. This repetitive content does not hold players interest for a full patch in most cases let a lone a full expansion. Now Yoshi P can say that he is respecting players time, but thats not exactly true. Respecting a players time would give us options of content to do for the same result, not run one dungeon 5x a week to get 450 tome stones to progress your gear. In Yoshi P's case they say they are respecting our time and that we should take breaks because they just do not make enough content to maintain player retention not because they respect our time with the content produced.

They were referring to New World with the 97% drop. Also covid is not an excuse, it is only used when some one can't make an actual argument as these issues existed before the covid outbreak. This game has been cutting content, and corners before the covid outbreak. Covid outbreak is not going to affect the design philosophy of the game when the game has continued to follow it's same formula that is has been using before covid. Maybe they could say they have not changed the patch formula because of covid, but they would have to first state that they wanted to change that to begin with, which they have not done.

That may be, but it's not the reason the large viewership streamers are playing the game.

Large viewership streamers are playing the game because that's where the views and therefore the money is.

Those large viewership streamers started looking for new games to play because they were getting bored with their previous game or their previous game fell into a bad scandal and they needed a new game to play while the scandal blew over or not or some combination of reasons either mentioned or not. They stuck with streaming FFXIV because they got tons of views for it. If the views hadn't been there it would not have been a main focus of their streams if they even streamed it, though they may have continued to play the game off stream.

I'm too new to FF 14 to really criticize it's game philosophy yet because I've hardly played, I do want to point out that the death of New World had factors other than the gameplay and how much fun it might have been. New World has an issue where it kills high end graphics cards, this was in the news for a while but there was pressure not to cover it too closely from what I heard. I was one of the people who had their card fry, and when I found out what happened I even posted a picture of my card (with burn marks) on their forums. The general attitude by Amazon and the Game's developers has generally been to pretend the issue doesn't exist, or somehow isn't their fault. When I played it New World was actually pretty good, and I saw it as having a lot of long term potential. That said it killed my card, and since they have not announced fixing the problem that I have seen, nor even wanted to acknowledge there is a problem to begin with... I have not gone back.

At any rate the bottom line is that I think a lot of people wound up quitting New World when those risks of playing it became known, as many gamers have high end graphics cards they do not want to lose. Some people I know also abandoned the game, or gave up plans to try it, because of the issues other people were having.

I could be wrong, but I think that New World's popularity would increase again if Amazon was to take more responsibility for the damage they did, and fix the problem. Of course that isn't likely to happen because at this point taking that responsibility would amount to them likely needing to pay the replacement cost of a mountain of cards (I get the impression a lot of people were affected, with the crappy reporting it's hard to know how widespread it actually was). Given the way New World was sold it would probably cut into the profits substantially for Amazon to take responsibility as replacing a single graphics card would be equal to like dozens of units seeing as New World sold for like $30 and a high end graphics card can go for over a thousand dollars (or even a couple thousand dollars)

I don't think Shadowbringers is bad. I think it's really good but the other 3 are better.

No, it just means that Twitch peaks, again, aren't tightly correlative with the quality of a game's design philosophy, especially as such would affect said game's long-term health.

What matters isn't how far New World fell, but at how low of numbers it stabilized.

We are still not quite stabilized, as such, our Twitch numbers won't be any better a representation of the game's quality than, say, week 2 New World. (Naturally, New World's decline wasn't consequent only to design philosophy, but neither was our influx of players.)

We hit a large player influx. The impact of that influx is tapering off, but we're also decently well into a tier by now in a game that offers little other serious combat content, so we won't really have a fair indicator until a patch or two later.

Absolutely wrong and it shows superficial knowledge of the Twitch game, ie only looking at a select few. I could say that most (big) streamers I tend to watch and like will play a game IF they've got an interest in it to begin with, money follows. People are not stupid, and transparency goes a long way on the platform to begin with and build a solid, quality viewership (like most businesses you might say).

HOT TAKE: I over-microwaved this sandwich and now it's too hot to eat right away.

An actual hot take: Both of the original diadems had excellent concepts but the execution was flawed on the level of eureka only eureka had ff11 fanservice and relic to force people to endure it. If the execution was better then it would have been good side content

I feel PvP is pretty fun too. Not the only reason I play the game, but I think it's fun.

Personally I missed the ability for PvP to be a tertiary way to get gear that was acceptable, they used to have stats.. Though I don't need stats IN pvp, I actually like that it is balanced for skill, generally, over super twink'ing.

Modern day FFXI is easier to power through than the state of Eureka when it launched. All you need to do is talk to a few people to unlock open-world trusts, and just like that 90% of the headache of that game is resolved. You are then free to level wherever you wish, with an abundance of options for making money and getting new gear easily with Records of Eminence.

I've regularly gone back and forth to FFXI and even prior to the addition of trusts I had played it for several years as a solo RDM -> SMN player, but I only dedicated a half-hour's worth of time to Eureka when it launched. I could not stand how atrocious it was, and this is coming from someone who somehow managed to single-handedly grind out Carbuncle's Ruby and made the worldwide treck to unlock SMN/level it/fight and defeat my summons prior to all of FFXI's many player-friendly updates.

Of course! I will attach the background I use, I got in from the game by scaling the UI pretty large and taking a screenshot without the respective trust roles filled out and then erasing the blue background around them. For the fonts and job symbols, I got those from the following linked file, from this video.

I combined my background with their template along with screenshots with a gshade filter over them. The template will allow you to customize the text in your banner, but since it was originally made during Shadowbringers it has level 80 stuck as the background-the image I am posting has no level attached to it so you can edit that in as the level cap increases. Enjoy!

Seriously, if you haven’t revisited ffxi since the 75 era you need to check it out again. It feels like they took a lot of inspiration from FFXIV (with things such as the armory system and teleportation) and managed to cram it into FFXI.

Oh believe me, I still hop on there from time to time. Prior to the SMN rework in XIV the most fun I've had as a Summoner was in XI. While we wait for additional gem summons to be added here, when I log into XI I can instantly summon Shiva/Ramuh/Leviathan and just destroy things with them. Unfortunately I don't have Siren yet, but I do have most of the trusts I want so I can play through the game with the party of my choice plus any of the other summons.

I guess this is more of a hot take on gaming in general. I don't understand the overconsumption of new games. Buying the newest game every month and hyping it up only for everyone to forget it when the next thing comes out. Or buying packet deals and games on sale at a higher rate than you have time to complete them, just to have them in your library. I wonder if people get satisfaction from the act of hoarding or if they are easily influenced by their favourite streamers.

I got years of entertainment from the handful of games I've bought in the past. Even better, I've gotten years more entertainment from the Mog Store cosmetics I've bought compared to the new throwaway games people pay a fivefold price for. It's amusing there is so much pushback for paid cosmetics but people flock to spend their money on the next thing they know will be dead on arrival or soon thereafter.

Oh god me too. I can sometimes get excited about a new game or other, but it almost seems a lot of people literally put themselves on the same timetable as publishers. "Well this game will fail because this other game will come out and obviously we'll all play that". I can sort of understand wanting to be on the time table with live service games... but Elden Ring? You know it's not going anywhere, right, regardless of when you're gonna sit down to play it?

But then in the same vein they complain about how games are either not releasing fast enough or releasing too early. What do you expect when you self-admit you're chasing the latest shiny? Why are you not embarrassed with yourself? Blah. We made consumerist culture of this style too normal...

And, yeah, I am still of the belief that games currently cost too little due to inflation which is why most games rely on MTs and DLCs on some level or another. You're paying the proper price indirectly because paying more than $60 is inconceivable to many, but games (especially MMORPGs) are very very very expensive to make, even with those huge profits they're often not making that much money in the end. Best money makers are low quality gacha mobile games relying on predatory tactics to catch whales...

relic weapons are honestly pretty lackluster, many other weapons that i feel look a lot better than most relics
