FFXIV Sneak peek inside Job Weapon skills

BLM looks best, though it's funny how the ant is still moving while encased in the crystal. Should have at least frozen the animation. WHM is pretty nice, I don't really like DRG's jump though, looks like the whole impact is concentrated on his feet instead on the lance. PLD looks most polished to me.

By the looks of the abilities MNK will be getting, it looks like it's gonna be a great short-term DD with the combination of fists of fire/kick attacks/hundred fists.. That is until your MP runs out. Should be fun to play ^_^

Cant wait to see Monks sliding around the place performing dragon kick whilst running from an enemy! or a paladin throwing his sword into the air and having it follow him around whilst he moves!

I would rather that then die in Ifrits plumes though.

The easy solution would be to completely cancel the animation though, which is kind of what I was hoping the whole not casting and moving thing was above, seems pointless if you are locked in place when you cast but then move and it stops casting. (boom 2 times the punishment)

When you do testing you don't want the monster to die depending on what you're testing, in actual gameplay, where monsters and NMs die quicker than it takes to get a french prostitute back to your motel, you'll be plenty satisfied about things dying after you weaponskill.

I would really rather have the animation lock than having my legs run one way and have my body face another way like in some other MMO's.

People these days.. If its not flashy.. then it doesn't equal a good weaponskill... I so happen to love DRG's Jump! ARC was flashyish too.. and that wasnt good? BLM Freeze was a Big huge Chuck of Ice Just Obliterating your foe... thats not epic looking? Well it's your opinion and I respect that =). But I personally LOVE them :D

Great WS video preview. :) These Job Weapon Skills will definitely enhance the overall FF XIV experience, and look like they'll make the Jobs standout.

I loved most of them, with Black Mage's Freeze and White Mage's Holy(?) and Dragoon's Jump being my favorites. :)

Bard looked a little weird: He's pointing to the sky, but the arrows were already around the victim as he was charging up (huh?); it just seemed off.

A few things I hope Square and the Dev Team think about for future Weapon Skill Videos (just to increase the appeal and excitement / presentation for fans and potential new players):

• Show Enemy Reactions (Animation and Damage Numbers): The fact that all the Weapon Skills fire off and the Enemies don't do anything (no Big Reaction / don't Die), and there are no Damage Numbers displayed undermine what you're selling here.
  
  If you had each Enemy get hit, react and die, and/or display "9,999 damage" (or some appropriate good Damage Number), that would definitely help increase the impact of the Weapon Skill.
  
  Imagine if CAPCOM showed a video of, say, Sagat's new Ultra Combo in STREET FIGHTER V, and when he executes it, he just passes through the opponent and plays the animation (with no corresponding hit reactions from the enemy), and without the trademark "ULTRA COMBO FINISH!" (with Hit Effects and giant explosion)... it'd be far more underwhelming.

• Unique Spell Casting Animation for White Mage and Black Mage: It would've been nice if these "Weapon Skills" for White Mage and Black Mage actually had unique, new Casting Animations. Your Animators are taking the time to animate an attack for the other Jobs, *and* your VFX Artists are making brand-new VFX to complement those Weapon Skills... yet for WHM and BLM, you're recycling the current Conjurer / THM animations, but with new VFX only.

I don't mean to sound negative, only bringing up suggestions to help improve your presentation. Especially since 1.21 represents a key milestone - the debut of the Final Fantasy Job System into Final Fantasy XIV. Many people should be tuning in and you'll have potential new players looking at what you present here. :)

Kiara - They're showing it in a testing envrionment, you don't want the monster to die especially with the current system they use where they delay animation display due to the poor server infrastructure (which by the way people are against them syncing it up as it may cause some server stress.)

They already stated White Magic and Black Magic will have specific casting animations which is most likely due to the incorporation of WHM and BLM, so this is something they're already working on.

When you hit them they make noise. They react with some form of retraction also. And there is damage posted to the screen. If you not seeing damage number you need to turn those on in settings.

I mean I always giggle when I see myself get popped by a Guardian of the Grove for 9,999 damage. The attack is all sort of funny like getting popped by a shotgun.

Of course I realize it's all in development. But when you present something to the public, especially if it's for one of the most anticipated updates (before 2.0), you want to put your best foot forward.

I'm not expecting "final pass, everything is flawless"-level; these are just suggestions to improve and enhance what the team is showing to the world. I'm pulling for them.

Ah gotcha...

I still wish especially for casters now that we will be locked down when casting that spells have a zonal/range display. Also, I think some spells should not be target dependent but zone dependent. That would add more strategy such as anticipating where your allies or enemies will move and since you as a caster are required to stand still now to cast it's more important then ever to be able to project where you should cast.

I also like more effects like FF10s ground circle display around the caster. I hope they do that when we get summons.

Every skill you earn while using a specific weapon does not get categorized as a "weaponskill." Thus, Life Surge, Featherfoot, Foresight, Chameleon, etc. are not weaponskills.

Weaponskills are the attacks that cost TP and create that environmental dimming + spotlight effect when you perform them, and they are usually part of a combo tree.

As someone mentioned earlier, Holy and Freeze were chosen because White Mage and Black Mage don't actually get any weaponskills. Jump was chosen for Dragoon because it's iconic and the community has been begging for it. Dragoon's actual weaponskills are going to be Dragon's Grasp and Ring of Thorns.

It doesn't matter what they titled the damn video.

I like fire better than ice to be honest,which is why I call myself the Red Wizard.

While the Blizzaga/Freeze is large, it's only the the scale of a lalafel, everything looks big at the angle. I am also disappointed by how it looks as well. Looks like a reskinned blizzard IV or V by the looks of it.

Can't blame them I guess, Ice is always hard to make visual stunning. But that's like a really basic form of ice right there, almost every single game does it in that form of a slighty different scale.

I don't know, I feel it can be vastly improved.

This is a bit of what I imagine. You are a BLM and your over zealous casting has caused your hate to go so high that now the beast in front of you has aggro on you.

You see him b-lining right for you, but you are just far enough to cast a quick spell. ICE Wall!!!! A wall of ice appear in the spot you zone target. The beast runs into it getting a deep chill ice damage. Or restricted from passing further till the wall is destroyed.

The Ice Wall can be like the needles from Ifrit that stay there for a limited time unless destroyed by attacking.

Like Ice spikes, but visible? with a stoneskin-like effect?

Literally I want an ice wall to come out of the ground and be an enemy obstacle. It would also have to be an obstacle for players as well. An obstacle to hide behind and or also do damage to them as it would be a universal spell effect. Though I think the physics mechanics would be hard to program.

I've always also liked the idea of any player in the casting range would get hit by caster spells too...though that would affect how tanks would tank said enemy if your range casting causes AOE effect.

There's an ability in Star Trek Online (lol) that operates just like that, it's quite useful. I personally love "utility" spells like that, I think it adds some variety to casting jobs.

Looks like how it looks in pretty much all FF games honestly.

I don't know if it's been said, but I'm counter-arguing all the people (possibly) hating on Monk. I think the WS looks awesome, and I can't wait to get my hands on that AF gear.
