Petition to keep non-instanced dungeons.

I can't believe that after Months of Saying that this would be Open World content, they made it instanced..

It sounds so good to. It really is a shame only 8 people get to do it at a time.

Again, Behest was just an instance other people could see. For those participating, the server prioritized the ~14 other participants and the Behest-exclusive mobs. The even lessened the server stress by having some of the mobs spawn as others were defeated.

This is the same guy who went on a multi-page rant in my HNM thread through about how it was horrible watching people kill HNM's in XI.

There's very few instances of the community actually changing their mind on anything though. Colors = stats was one of them, though that was an almost unanimous backlash among all communities. Something like this is not. I doubt it'll get changed. Outside of a very small number of instances like that, the polls are our greatest method of getting our opinion across because we are being asked for it.

And I don't really understand why.
I thought the appeal of an MMO was playing together in a living world. Cutting it into instances makes the game world feel so lifeless.
I wish I could/ hope I can at least see the Hamlet happening.

I checked out this thread while on break at work but was unable to log in and reply (security token's at home :-p)...

Here are my thoughts on it.

Overall, I don't understand what the actual debate is. I've seen several people, at least, agree that the game should have a mix of both instanced dungeons (Toto Rak, etc) and non-instanced world areas (the Hollow, etc). I agree with this 100%, for the very simple reason that each serves a completely different purpose, or purposes. Also, each appeals to different players, for different reasons.

It looks like some people see the word "dungeon" and immediately think "instanced, raid, boss fights, epic loot". That's not always, nor necessarily the case.
Think of this list of areas from FFXI (anti-FFXI reference folks, relax, it's just for illustration).
Inner/Outer Horutoto Ruins, Toraimorai Canal, Maze of Shakhrami, Garlaige Citadel, Crawler's Nest, Quicksand Caves, Gusgen Mines, Ordelles Caves, Ranperres' Tomb, Pso'xja, Eldiemme Necropolis, Sea Serpent Grotto, Lower/Middle/Upper Delkfutt's Tower, Boyadha Tree... And so on.

That's a list of dungeon zones in FFXI that were not instanced. They were not raid zones. They were not specifically there to fight raid bosses and get uber loot. They were shared explorable places in the world, actual environments, just like any of the above ground ones. But they were dungeons, to be sure. They are to XI as Cassiopeia Hollow and Shopshea (or however you spell that) are to FFXIV. They had a variety of content in them, such as harvesting points, rare spawns, quest objectives, a variety of mobs. They served as "stand alone" areas, but they also sometimes served as a way to get to other locations.

When I think of world dungeons, that's what I think of. And I do very much hope Yoshi keeps those kinds of places as they are, as persistent world locations that can be explored and wherein a variety of content can be provided.

When I think of instances in relation to FFXI, I think of BCNMs (and its derivatives), Assault, Moblin Maze Mongers and Nyzul Isle (though that's technically an Assault). Those are private "copies" of areas which the only other players you'll see are your party members, or just yourself if you're soloing. Those would be the equivalent of Toto Rak and other such raid dungeons in XIV. They also serve a specific purpose, that of instanced raid or objective-based content. They're not open world areas, you aren't going to see other players exploring or fighting around you when you enter. It's just you and your party.

There was more than enough room for them to exist side-by-side in FFXI. There's more than enough room, certainly, in FFXIV for them to as well. I see no reason why it has to be "all or nothing" for either end of the spectrum. Unless someone is so selfish and so self-centered that the only content they want in the game falls under their preferred column, even at the expense of those who'd like some options from the other column (and there's a few in this thread who seem to think exactly that way, disappointingly), I really can not see what the issue is. Some people seem to have severe tunnel vision on the issue, though.

Also, I think some people (based on their remarks) are confusing, or perhaps conflating "zone" with "instance". They are not necessarily the same. A zone does not have to be an instance. The whole of Thanalan, for example, is one massive zone. It is not, however, an instance. There is only one version of Thanalan on a given server, and all players share it. That distinction will be obvious to many, no doubt. But I do see that there are some (not only around here) who don't seem to realize the the two are not the same thing and tend to (mis)use one term while referring to the other.

Anyway, my two gil's worth.

In closing, though I definitely /sign this petition to keep and continue adding non-instanced world dungeons in addition to instanced dungeons.

That's all I'm asking for at the very least. I would love it!

Don't get me wrong guys, I do like my share of instanced content. Boss fights should be instanced, yes, but where it comes to an area that should be apart of the world, it should stay part of the world, not some other entity.

Why bother saying anything to people who don't want to hear it.

They're perfectly content to have another streamlined standard MMO with a new paintjob and a few new shiny features and nothing anyone says or does can that. Any thought that challenges its structure is met with jeers and heavy disapproval. No one wants to discuss here, they all want to just build up this game into safe mediocrity and poo upon those who would dare look for the genuine fun they had in those wretched pre-2005 fossils. Gone are the days of commitment and patience, no longer can we depend on a strong community to weed out the week and childish, farewell to a lost summer of long term goals. No one would dare find those skills fun in this day.

I'll probably regret saying this when I'm sleep sober but screw it I'm an emotional idiot at the moment and so be it.
Lets let those fears spill on the floor and out to the open.

Get them out of the way so I can look forward to 2.0 again.

I think more people care about it than you think. But to be more specific we should never fear saying what we think about the direction of the game because that's why we are here.

Not to conform to the opinion the majority has come too but to be sure SE has every chance to hear what we as individual players think. It's funny though a large majority of this board only tends to want to please the masses instead of themselves I often hear. "But that's how everyone else does it' or that ____ would "Net the most players" instead of "I would enjoy ______ because of ______ what do you guys think?"

A good example of the sheepish attitude of many forum goers is the insane hatered the mere presence of Rokien can cause in people who probably have not even read his posts very long but just hop on the hate train and perpetuate not only Rokiens satisfaction but his own threads until the end of time.

Ya, not saying the game wont be fun at 2.0, I bet it will be a lot of fun for a time. It can't hold significant ground on the long term, people will get tired of doing instances(I will). I'll play it till I'm bored, I'll have fun with it till then, but, it's not going to win the hearts, just going to win a short satisfaction of "Ah, that was fun! What's next!?!"
