That thread is, unfortunately, not a shining beacon of SE's responsiveness. They completely ignored the issue of being inundated with spam and just gave us the standard blurb about who the STF is.
Meanwhile... this one is nearly at 300 likes...

Signed,
The restrictions are ridiculous. You can see where in most Data Centers on GC overpowers the others. It should just be random already to balance it out.

I want to PVP alongside my friends, PVP is useless as a group of friends with that restriction
Signed!!!
My friend had to switch gc's to be able to que for Seal Rock with me but when you change gc's you practically start at square one again. DX

The design is pointless. Most of my friends are storms or flames. :(

please, the queue times and extreme unbalance between grand companies skill wise is the worst!
Signed! Definitely want this, I love PVP with friends, but some of us want to be in different companies for things like Elite gear and overall preference, I can't play with those friends because of the inane restrictions. The fact that Seize has it just annoys me further, why can't we just have a Red/Blue/Green team not tied to a grand company? Faster queues would be assured.
I get the concept of pitting GC's against each other, I really do, but its flawed and not implemented in a way that makes playing with your friends easy if they so happen to be in a different company. I am hesitant to play without my friends and I know people who feel the same, cut the restrictions and its almost guaranteed for PVP to become more popular.
I think of the same.
Just get rid of the GC in PvP. It is always an issue for Balance and Queues.
Just make sure that Player in a group will join the same Team.
It could even be with GCs, make them like the Beastmen tribe, where you can gain Reputation with played PvP Matches but that it will be Random what GC you will join in the Battlefield.
Overall we are Adventurer and no Soldiers.
Had an hour to play last night, thought I could get a couple frontlines in. Sat in queue for 44 minutes before withdrawing and logging out. Awesome!

Looks like it's going to happen.
PvP Matching
We’re aware of comments saying that you’d rather we not focus on the lore aspect of PvP matching, but by removing the Grand Company restrictions it may cause fixed matches to be made, and we’re worried about this. This is why it is set the way it is now. With that said, we are considering removing the Grand Company restrictions.
It is great that they are finally talking about this. Are we really worried about win trading though? While I would love to preserve the sanctity of PvP in a 72 man 3 team set up it is going to be hard to win trade. Cheaters will always cheat. But unless they are adding a true PvP season for frontlines with rewards, I think we can live with some of the consequences.
Step one Grand Companies bite the dust. Step two complain that we can't que 24 at a time. Step three assert global domination of Balmung server.
Just in case folks from SE read this thread, I want to voice my opinion that the GC restrictions are fine. Sure, it means you have to wait longer in between matches, but it makes the battles more meaningful. I've played large-scale pvp battles in other mmos where it's just a random hodge-podge of players assigned to different teams and it isn't nearly as rewarding.
FFXIV has made a commitment (a rare one at that in the midst of most current MMOs [and it seems to be paying off in terms of critical and commercial success]) to story and lore--this makes everything in-game more meaningful. If players don't like that there're plenty of bland mmos out there.
Tweaks that may make the matching system more efficient or changes that would result in a greater abundance of matches? Great! But doing away with lore-based GC restrictions is lame. Then pvp is just for the sake of pvp, and there're zillions of other games out there to scratch that itch.
Now, bring on the flames! :p
I hope they don't wait till pvp is totally dead before finally removing it.
You do know that they added a new map and expansion and the (redacted) didn't realize that they had made a mistake in 2.0. They could have made any new lore no CS just a couple chat bubbles. The community did voice concerns in 2.0 but kept out hope that they would learn from past issues and move forward. Instead they have to be beaten with facts over and over and give some lame excuse about fixes. Fixes happen in triple triad they get a reward, first place for frontlines doesn't even have a reward.
You have 50 matches, you felt the que was worth it? I also typed a bunch of other stuff, but decided it might be best not to say those kind of things to another person I do not even know.
It's wonderful news they are considering removing it, however a thread 296 posts in 300+ likes and a rep couldn't just inform us of this earlier?
It's OK pointless minion > being able to play a game you've paid for.
It could also help balance teams as well. As is one GC dominates, everyone decides to migrate over to that dominating GC that GC declines and another GC dominates lol. It's an endless cycle of unbalanced GCs.
I'd just prefer a merc option, myself. I actually quite like the cross-server community in PVP, and a merc option that allows you to fill in for the missing GC IF YOU WANT would alleviate queues while still allowing groups to keep their identity.
Think I'm in the minority here, though.
I just want to be able to PVP with my friends!
They're spread out across all the GC's, and it's not fair having them switch, because my friends have other friends too that they play with sometimes, and those friends have friends, and so on... In order to play together everyone and their friends, and their friends' friends, would have to move to the same GC... Not sustainable.
And it's not fun going off to PVP with my FC and leaving one single person behind because they happen to be in another GC than the rest. Peer pressure to make someone change is NOT okay, and I support them sticking by the GC that fits their character or aesthetics (GC locked gear - yay -_-).
It's pretty telling that the War Serpent Steed is among the rarest of all mounts
I think it's hilarious that they say the main reason they haven't fixed it yet is because they're worried about win trading. Pretty sure the last time they mentioned it their excuse was it would break lore.
Just giving this a little bump and hoping we get some news this weekend from TGS. Those of us that still do frontlines haven't forgotten even though they gave a fluff answer. A concrete timeline and plan to kill this poorly implemented system, even if it is not in 3.1. How hard can it be to rework the que to fill three teams and change the wording of a few achievements?
But here is hoping that they have some ground work done since we have been asking (complaining) well before 3.0.
So you are asking for generic team A/B/C and changing all of our hard earned titles and give us all generic horse mounts? Sounds a bit selfish.
PvP without set team structure sounds incredibly lame, however for those people that are insistent on queuing with their friends so they can create an unbalanced match with their premade team they should add a traitor option and you can all queue under the banner of the party leaders GC and play together.
This would allow the rest of the players who actually have some pride in their GC and leading them to victory don't have our hard won achievements stripped away.
If they got rid of GC restriction entirely how would you earn the titles for your GC? As I said before an option to queue under one teams banner would suit me fine and not take anything away from those of us who actually enjoy fighting a hard won battle for our Grand Company and leading them to victory. Then people can play with their friends and there is little damage to the existing system (other than some minor lore bit perhaps on these Free agents).
Why do you think getting rid of GC restrictions in PvP would mean eliminating your character's GC affiliation completely? The obvious solution is you just accrue achieves relevant to the GC you have picked.
The basis of this entire argument is people want to play with their friends, personally I'd rather meet my friend on the battlefield if they decided to choose another GC but that's just me. There is no need to remove the GC restriction if they add an option for people to act as a Free agent or just all queue under another party members banner. Without real teams what are you even fighting for? They'd have to retcon the entire lore to explain this. This would be akin to going into WoW back in it's heyday and declaring that you wanna raid against the Alliance with your Horde friends even though you yourself are Alliance.
My plan would allow others to play together with their friends without changing much about the system and lore as it already exists. Plus there are bigger issues in PvP to be addressed like the current massive class imbalance and the fact that the Ranged DPS LB is nearly worthless. It would also be great if they added a tutorial or training mode against NPCs to get people to learn about their PvP actions. These are the things I think we can all agree need to be addressed.
You are really overstating the significance of GCs in PvP lore.
sign, woot woot woot DrK need a burst dmg boost for pvp
Yeah i kinda like to see familiar faces when doing PvP so merc like option would be pretty good alternative for GC removal, that way you could choose merc for faster ques/play with friends or if your GC already has insta ques you can ignore that option and roll with your GC as usually.
I am not sure what your ques are like. But the current Grand Company system is so effed up. While I enjoy playing with other rank 40+ people I know from other servers, yes. Do I like a system that is beholden to one group of people locking out at least 50% (being conservative), no. Also some people may not want to see maps built around three teams as they are currently trapped by Grand company system. Also have the Grand Company with lowest que already able to field full premade teams and full alliances (not sure how often that works).
Also if you haven't noticed achievements aren't even worded the same way as 2.0+ ones are. Just says lead a Grand company to victory not adders, flames, or maelstrom.
I am only 300 matches away from two thousand played. I was logged in for five hours yesterday doing other stuff. I had 5 games start. If you can find as many people who want to keep the broken system, WHO HAVE PUT IN THE TIME TO REACH 50. As want the system gone I will stop hoping for a fix and be quiet.
P.S. I already have 2 horses I never even ride the horses in this game are some of the ugliest designed/moving mounts in the game.
Signed. Such restrictions are stupid and result in huge Queues as well.
The GC-specific mount achievements reference the GC (e.g. A Line in the Glade IV), and you need to be a member of that GC to get credit for that achievement.
The non-specific mount achievements do not reference a GC (e.g. Behind Enemy Lines), and you do not need to stay a member of a particular GC to get credit for that achievement. i.e. you could get 100 wins with Adders then change to get Flames and get another 100 wins to complete this achievement.
/signed Need faster queue times -.-
Never really understood the lore part either since the gc's have an alliance.
