It is cool, a lot of us know what you meant, They just do not know how to take an opposed opinion, that is why they are the vocal minority. NA used forums to bash and complain, and the rest of them uses them for information sharing. It is a culture thing, It is cool in NA to troll and flame posts. You gota learn to just accept that they will always gripe.
I've played almost exclusively since FF XIV launched (1.0 mind you) on JP servers. In 2.0, I've gone into dungeons only posting the OCCASIONAL statement in auto-translate. And not once have I been booted or had a JP player leave due to me being "gaijin"
(BTW, you shouldn't be using that term. It's extremely offensive for those who actually understand what it means and its origin.)
Ironically, what you're doing is not any better, just on the other end of the spectrum.
Please, do show us your obviously detailed and scientifically sound and not completely anecdotal data to support that assertion, I mean, you can't possibly be just stereotyping right?Quote:
the NA audience is a bunch of rude and obnoxious kids.
Time for someone to study recent events.Quote:
we are generally disliked by other countries because of the attitudes we have.
I feel the same way about Ultima as OP does. The JP Community servers are much better environments than the EU/NA ones. And I too no longer use the E in Duty finder.
Haha, My FC is literally named "Gaijin" Its the largest English speaking FC on Ultima.
The reason I chose a Japanese Server was because I played FFXI for 11 years, I enjoyed the companionship even if we have to talk [Like this].
I ended up being forced into a JP server on my 1.0 character due to never getting an email in regards to a server transfer. During Phase 4 Beta I was dead set on transferring servers all the way up into 2 weeks into the games life cycle. But now I'm pretty attached to the server and the FC I'm in and I don't really want to leave now. The community as a whole has been nice and friendly even if I can't understand them we still help each other out.
To be honest OP I'm not surprised. With every game I've played that had the option of playing with the Japanese it's always been the same result. Polite Japanese, and mostly more vocal/haughty Westerners. I think it just all comes down to cultural differences.
But while they are polite they to can be xenophobic/racist not all of course but some. From my experience I believe both West and East house trouble makers. It is more prevalent in the West, but I don 't think there truly is a community that is a Utopia.
My experience with North American players are much better than MMO forums would led one to think, even in WoW.
Being a foreigner in Japan for almost 4 years now I can assure you it is not a myth unfortunately
And on the other side, if you could read Japanese, you would see that on the Japanese boards they are having the same discussion
most of the post in the topic are about players wishing they could speak english more to play with other players
and important language for academia in Japan? let me laugh! I have Japanese english teachers asking me for advice... and english is not even my first language...
even in my company, my direct boss from the "international team" does not speak english
of course, there are quite a few people who can speak english, the ones who studied abroad or worked abroad. But if you always lived in Japan and have MMORPG as hobby, don't expect to speak english
and please do not take this post as an attack in any way, I am a Japan White Knight. it is my host country by choice. I love the country and its people ;)
But the English education is style far behind what it should be
EDIT: I assumed reading your post that Japanese people HAD to speak english because it is an "international language for both business and academia." which I just do not think is true. But if that is now what you meant sorry sorry ^^
