Is the "Point Allotment" system necessary at all?

Especially if they'd made stats useful for each class and allowed us to choose all our points of growth in addition to this, you really would feel as if that was definitely your character. That said, if that were the case, I'd probably want a way per class to affect my stat balance, or what my stats are being used for.

Implementing better gear diversity along w/ a talent/skill tree system would be far more beneficial & noticeable IMO. FFX had the sphere system (a form of talent/skill tree) and you could def. customize characters to take on different roles. Stats are nice, but are very indirect & require a lot more in order to see a big difference. Unless you parse you would not noticeably see a difference in stat allotment in the current game.

Everything needs reworking, just gotta wait for 2.0 info to come out. Stats is probably least of the game's issues atm, nonetheless they did state stats were getting overhauled & materias may not provide the same bonuses they do now.

I personally loved the original point allocation system. It didn't take too long to realise that balancing yourself fairly evenly, whilst leaning towards your favourite class a little, was a perfectly optimal route to go. From there with just one or perhaps two re-allocations if you had time you could easily swing yourself into any role required. Add to that the passive traits you could buy with guild marks and eventually you were easily able to go in any direction without the irritation of having to fully reallocate stat points if you wished to change focus.

Nowadays with stats being independent between classes and the allotment system being limited by the number of points available, their effectiveness and the number of reallocation chances, it has become something of a redundant mechanic. Its sadly true that attempting to do anything beyond the cookie-cutter distributions so frequently quoted here is, ironically, pointless. Boosting a Warrior's latent dexterity stat by 23 points only serves to raise it from a pretty dismal 224ish to a vaguely less dismal 247.

What is worse is the fact that this reflected in by nothing more then a cosmetic garnish regards to accuracy and parry rates.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that allocation remains in FFXIV, but I do believe it needs to be much more in-depth and relevant to really be worthwhile. Abolishing the restrictions on allocation attempts would need to go, too. Though I think this is only temporary?

Lastly, I like the idea of being able to reallocate within say player-homes or the class's guild headquarters. Means no changing in the field but plenty of opportunity prior to an event. Also fits with the game mechanics and lore ideas too, I think.

Unless it changed from when I was playing FFXI (11) - I dont like that system at all *merit system that limits the amount of points per category. And I dont like phsyical level either where you allocated for all classes once through a arch type class.

What the hell is the point of the job system if we are just going to in the end cut you down to a job or a small selection of jobs. (11 I believe had some job specific options (which isnt much of an issue), but it also had hp/mp category for all job classes at once - unless I cant remember correctly or it changed.)

All stats/perks or w.e need to be job specific - otherwise you are creating a contradictory system.

I'd be aganist race stats in FFXIV as well if it wasnt for the fact in the end it wont matter.

Forget the points and give us perks that don't effect combat or ones that do in a small way but have only 1 slot and earn only 1 perk every 30 levels and the perk slot is locked at lv1-29 so its not effecting a choice of leveling which class first to progress faster.

Traits you can only equip and learn from lv30+

Self Cure- PLD Cures+5%, MNK- Cures+70%, Blm+7%, Whm+8%
Gil Finder- Increase rate of gil mob drops by 10%
Chocobo Combat- Increases your chocobo attack speed by 10%
Counter Attack Plus- Increases damage of Counter.
Shield Block- Shield Blocks will heal your by 15% based on the damage.
HP Plus- Increases your Health bar by 15%
MP Plus- Increases your Magic Bar by 10%
TP Plus- Increases the speed which TP bar grows back to full by 5% in 2.0.
Evaded Attack+ Increases the damage attacks of all specials combos by 20%.
Enmity Plus, Increases Enmity. PLD+15, WAR+10, MNK+30


Rose charm- You gain extra bonuses will eating fruit.
Miner's charm- You gain extra acc with throwing items.
Sea charm- You lose less armor damage on your main weapon by 50%
Materia Crystal- Will be able to find materia as you gather. (1-4% chance) (completely different materia)
Chart Lense- Will be to find Treasure Charts on enemies also.

Traits you can equip learn from lv10+

Raw Meat plus- Will get more bonuses eating raw meat/fish.
Blacksmith's charm- You lose less armor damage on blacksmith armor & weapons by 40%
Goldsmith's charm- You lose less armor damage on goldsmith armor & weapons by 40%
Armorer's charm-You lose less armor damage on armorer armor & weapons by 40%
Potion charm- You lose less armor damage on Alymist armor & weapons by 40%
Weaver's charm- You lose less armor damage on weaver armor & weapons by 40%
Tanner's charm- You lose less armor damage on leather armor & weapons by 40%
Leaf charm-You lose less armor damage on woodworking armor & weapons by 40%


Lv10 (1 Equip Slot)
Lv50 (2 Equip Slots)
lv60 Traits are increased
lv70 (3 Equip slots)
lv80 Traits are increased
lv90 (4 Equip Slots)
lv100 Traits are increased

Ability/passive equip systems are a good idea as well. Having 4 bars full of abilities is distracting and counter productive to creating a functional strategy without using many addons or macros. (I realize you didn't mention active spells - but I wanted to add that in there since I felt they are easy to talk about at once)

I would be interested to hearing such a system - GW1/2, Diablo 3, are obvious examples of this system (for active abilities).

While D3 failed to make as many builds as it wanted*to make, it -did- make a couple builds quite viable even end game. Which is exciting - as it is now the only builds you get to do in FFXIV are item builds.

* D3 has had a recent patch to buff unused skills to make even more viable builds - haven't checked it out if it is true, but its good news for those who are still playing.

Obviously passives would be easier for the dev team to come up with - and still maintain a fairly FF feel. And if they did active selections like the above games did then they would have to greatly increase spell count for each class - which would probably feel less FF unless you were a blue mage.

(Passives are a lot like perks however, just able to switch them in and out easily unlike say WoW - though you may in D3)

really hoping they expand on character stat allocation and i'm excited to see how they're 'changing' stats with 2.0.

If SE makes the stats worth a damn then yes it matters alot.
