Yeah, I'd guess its Golbez manifesting some creature from the aether he has taken from Azdaja, aka a shadow Azdaja aka essentially a primal. It definitely looks close enough to be based off her to me, if it isn't actually her being mind controlled in the first place. There's really not enough of a difference btwn the art and the in-game model to assume its an entirely different dragon or something.

No, the Omega raid storyline actually went to decent lengths to legitimize its angle; a lot of those bosses were described as in-universe fiction that Omega misunderstood, while later it blurred the lines into 'actually Omega legitimately might've met Kefka', to seed the idea that actually this might be The Omega. It's very easy to dismiss Omega as blind fanservice, but there's more going on.

We decided to consider this patch 6.4 and the next patch 6.5 as paired titles. In patch 6.4, the "throne" that Golbeza has sat on so far has been laid out straight, and we have presented in an easy-to-understand manner what the "criminal" refers to, what actions correspond to it, and future developments. After clearing patch 6.4, I think it would be interesting to reconsider its meaning. I think we'll start to see faint hints of what will happen after the patch 6.X series, but I don't think we can predict it yet (laughs).

Raid Story

As the story is finally reaching its climax, I have collected all the foreshadowing that has been stretched around, both big and small. I wonder if it will be there as a highlight. In a sense, the 6.0 main quest was intentionally left untouched, so I think you can enjoy it as a 6.0 after story. As a battle, it's the final chapter, so we're aiming for content that's as crunchy as the "Pandemonium" series..

Something worht noting that those quotes allude to, but don't outright state: The Japanse 6.4 patch name is roughly 'The Throne's Criminal'. So Golbez ain't exactly a saint, unless it turns out that phrasing is used ironically.

Also, that 6.4 is apparently being written as the climax and conclusion of the 6.x story, with 6.5 being the leadin for the next; that makes sense, but good to have it confirmed.

A certain Hingashi lord? Are we meeting for the 1st time the guy who rules over Kugane? As if they meant Hien they'd of used Doman, right? Or will it be a certain character that I can't stand that is the heir to the Soy sauce trade?

That title...it feels like it's referring to Golbez, but at the same time, Yoshi-P's words of "reconsidering its meaning after beating 6.4" are telling me that the criminal here isn't Golbez. Golbez was under control by somebody in FFIV when he did a lot of his horrible acts in the game...what if the Watcher's destruction was another one of them? What if the current Golbez is no longer under the control of that influence and is trying to fix the very mess he helped unleash, and the criminal who caused it turned out to be either somebody now long since dead (Igeyorhm), or somebody we now currently know who is having to turn her life around (perhaps Zero IS Igeyorhm)?

Then again the "Throne's Criminal" could be something non-physical and just be something like greed, despair, or some emotion being manipulated that helped lead to the state of affairs. Perhaps Golbez or a ruler had lost a loved one and decided to believe in Ascian magic to return them to the living world.

Well, we see that Zero is telling the truth about her mortal origins via her flashback, I think. However, it'd be interesting if, instead of being an Azem shard, she's actually an Ascian shard. Though that's kind of repeating Gaia's storyline too much to me.

However, I want to point out: Her mother has been mentioned a lot in an offhanded manner. What if her mother was Igeyorhm? Playing a hero, while really working towards the goal of the Rejoining. Like Hades as Solus or Cylva as the Shadowkeeper.

And half-voidsent Zero wasn't an accident, but an early prototype of what Emet ultimately did to make Vauthry, who arguably was half-sineater? (A concept I'll confess still doesn't really make much sense to me given what voidsent/sin easters actually are. How are you half of what is essentially a metabolic condition? But w/e. Also, insert "patient Zero" pun here.)

There is definitely something important about Zero's origins/past we don't know, and it's going to play in somehow.

That...would be interesting. In that case, perhaps Golbez was her father. The first Voidsent, the strongest one simply because it was a calculated transformation on the part of the Ascians. That would explain why he feels different from other Voidsent, because he was essentially the prototype. Or perhaps it's a reversal, like with Mitron and Lohegrif. Perhaps Golbez was Igeyorhm who did this on themselves as an experiment.
