It's day 1, and dummies. Expect this to change over time and in-content.
Also, what about defensives and raid-wide benefits?
Currently that is incredibly in favor of PLD.
In 3.xx DRK brought Reprisal (removed) and Delirium (removed).
WAR I can't speak for, but knew they used to bring a slashing debuff (now every party will have this from SAM/NIN) and damage down debuff (removed).
Yeah I already know that. I'm guilty of that myself and that's the problem. We already have far too much hp and shirk makes it too easy to tank in dps stance. I know some of the scrub tanks will start emulating what we do and fail then we'll see threads of healers complaining that tanks tank in dps stance, and trust me there are a lot out there if you've been in leveling df as a dps. However I only tank in dps stance only if I know the healers can handle it and/or the dps are weak.
Quicker fights are always the best from of mitigation.
You are overlooking tenacity and how it factors in as well while solely focusing on str. Yes str gives the largest dps boost between the two stats individually. However, combined the two stats play off each other to grant "X" effect. There is way more that can be tweaked to maintain threat levels than them just adding str. Focusing solely on str makes it seem like you are just wanting str to boost your personal dps. Not saying this is indeed your meaning just the perception I'm getting. Granted I only dabble in tanking but from the outside looking in that is the intial impression
I got.
It's literally a DPS argument. Even if strength didn't get put on fending accessories, there'd be no issue holding threat at all in end-game content due to Shirk, absurd enmity modifiers, and all but Samurai and Monk having Threat drops.
And when the next expansion comes out, they rework and rebalance again. Threat isn't the issue.
I can't say this enough that Threat isn't the issue.
But he is arguing that it will be, but it is coming off to me as but my deeps! Never mind he is ignoring that so far dps primary stat gains on accessories are by the same amounts. So we are all scaling together. So far. Granted I have not inspected every piece of gear 310 to 320 yet. But I'm working on my 320 set.
You can play as a tank. You can even play as what you believe a tank is, and I assume that is the focus on purely mitigation and aggro. You can stay in ShO/Grit/Defiance and press your aggro combo only and you will pass.
Just accept that you are objectively playing bad.
When you are given the choice to do more, and you choose to play a factually inferior playstyle for the sake of abiding to your belief of what a tank should be in your eyes then you are actively choosing to play badly, and the people calling you bad have every right to.
I like playing as a tank that does more then be a required meatwall. I like playing a Warrior with a greataxe that shrugs off hits AND cleaves fools. That is a tank to me. That is a WARRIOR/DARK KNIGHT/PALADIN THAT REMEMBERS THEY HAVE A SWORD TOO.
