100M GIL taken

Closest to this happening to my guild was about 500k and lots of rare mats, and garden items like thavniarian onions and chocobo food were taken from the FC chest. I got pretty upset with the guild leader, especially after I told her she shouldn't be so trusting of the members who rarely log in. She agreed and demoted the culprit to the lowest rank. It took a while to replenish what was taken, but they could be replenished. Losing guild mates for whatever reason can be crushing. Strong FCs usually survive though, and shows a lot of character within it.

I actually laughed when i saw this topic. Because in the end, its the FC leader who decide which rank gets which power when its first made. If FC member that have access to making new rank and promoting, its the FC leader to take responsability to see what power is attributate to them andm ake sure everything is fine.

Not really sure why people are blaming SE for this 'mistake', when it is clearly the users fault.

You're telling me that the ability for someone to promote THEMSELVES to a rank that's HIGHER THAN THEIR OWN is not a design flaw and that SE shouldn't be held somewhat accountable for incidents that are caused by it? You're kidding right?

Unless someone asked or read up on it ahead of time out of game, what reasonable person would assume promoting privileges would allow you to promote someone above your own rank? Incidents like OPs are common and this flaw in the FC system has been brought up numerous times in the past.

Yup, and I think one reason it's common is because SE doesn't take any action against it. This ENCOURAGES more of these incidents to happen because they know that they won't face any consequences for it. If the GM's actually did something to the culprit, such as banning them, along with returning the stolen items, this kind of issue wouldn't be so common.

It's not a fault, it's a feature. You can choose to use it or not use it... that is completely in your control. If you decide you don't want to use that feature, it's your own fault if you create a rank with the ability.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. This "feature" should not be present in the game at all. Nobody should, under ANY circumstances, be able to promote themselves or others to a rank that is above their own.

I'm not blaming the tool, I'm blaming the ones behind it (aka SE)

Whether the ability to promote oneself to a rank higher than you hold is a fault or a feature is a matter of personal opinion, but the fact that the game doesn't inform you of how that particular accessibility option works is most certainly a flaw and one that needs to be addressed, given the obvious ignorance about its working, as can be seen here. Different games do it differently and so there's no obvious or intuitive assumption to make here (indeed, the way it works in FFXIV is at odds with all of my other MMO experience). It seems the best solution would be to simply allow a second option to exist that can cap promotion at the rank you currently hold, so people could choose to have it work either way in accordance with their own needs, while the mere existence of such an option, if it's properly labeled, would help clarify how the permission works and thereby help avoid these sorts of situations.

No, I understand perfectly. I'm saying you are objectively wrong. It is a feature that is beneficial when used with a minimal level of caution and is 100% optional.

It is a tool, an option, and you are most definitely blaming the tool and not the irresponsibility of the one using it (like you should be).

Could be a flaw, but the fact still remain that he gave a lower rank the power of demote/promote, which by itself is powerful and the person took advantage of it because people were ignorant.

If it's common and has been brought up numerous times why didn't OP knew about it? I don't own a FC and i knew about it
