We Want SAM... <make it happen>

Zenos could very well be hinting towards a samurai confirmation but not in the sense most people might assume. Regula was introduced and uses a great sword and while his basic combat stance is unique most of his attack animations are the same as Dark Knight. As such, their choice for Zenos to use a scabbard and katana like weapon could have been a design decision for him to similarly re-use animation assets created for a samurai job.

Honestly don't know why you feel I'm being rude to you, when I think both of you have your points, and if anything I'm trying to get to the root of the issue, and clarify it.
The part where I said "they said it in less words" isnt some jab at how many words you used, but saying that they already stated it, and because they didnt use as much clarification, I'm going to assume you didn't know they understood you.

Your re-clarification seems to me that I have somehow misunderstood you, but once again, it didnt quite go against what I said either from what I gather, so I can only assume I'm not following you very well.

We might be looking at everything all wrong. Maybe its not tank/dps/healer.

In HW we got three jobs right? (Not counting Ninja, it was more a late delivered 2.X job.) DRK is a tank, AST a healer, and Machinist a dps. But maybe we misunderstood. Machinist was a Ranged dsp. Maybe we aren't getting the 3 roles, maybe we are only getting the only sub-rolls untouched, melee dps (Dancer), and Magic dps (Red Mage).

I don't think they will do this for one simple reason. As with when NIN released, if you release several new classes in only one role you are going to skew the population of players to that role cause a lot of people are going to try out the new Jobs. Particularly with DPS, that is going to send queue times for any trinity group content through the roof.

If they do that don't be surprised to see people complaining about 45+ minute dps queues for dungeons when Bloodstorm comes out for at least the first couple of weeks.

Just quoting to say Claire understands my argument quite well with respect to the similarity between Ninja and a Spellblade. In lore, ninjas already arguably ARE spellblades, they use magic in conjunction with their martial arts. Huton is a mudra but for all intents and purposes is a spell that increases movement speed. Raiton? Casts lightning. Katon? Fireball. Suiton? Water spell. Et cetera.

"But mudras aren't magic!" There is a quest in the game where this is debated and not solved by the ninja teacher, where the player uses Raiton to lure people to find them. Even if they aren't the quest concludes they're close enough, and in gameplay it also is a 'close enough' type of thing. And even beyond Ninja we have Dark Knight who literally does use magic in conjunction with his sword skills.

What other classes than Spellblade are you thinking could be added to the game? Spellblade doesn't work as a unique class in the confines of XIV.

Releasing only DPS jobs for an expansion is such a colossally bad idea though, regardless of how it would wreck content queues for the first month at least which is something you don't want on the launch of your fresh new expansion, but it's absolutely disparaging to those who play the other (arguably more vital) roles. They get stuck with the same jobs they've had for another 2 whole years. This is bad for the longevity of the game. You want to retain tank and healer players, not give them reasons to leave because they don't get any shiny new jobs at the expansion.

There's also things to consider in terms of number of jobs released. If the expansion releases with only 2 new jobs, instead of 3 like the last one, you have to consider how this might look from a PR perspective. Some might consider it signs the game isn't doing too well if they can't afford to deliver the same number of new jobs they offered before. SE is big on maintaining their brand, and delivering less new jobs than their last expansion would certainly have a negative impact on that brand. We also know that Stormblood has about triple the budget Heavensward had. With that and other hints it's pretty safe to say we're getting 3 new jobs again and thus naturally covering the 3 trinity roles is the most likely scenario.

During the fanfest keynote, I remember the mentioning of "multiple new jobs" being added. What I gather from that, there's going to be more classes added than the two shaded characters on the "new jobs" picture of the presentation. Who's to say we won't get our 3 battle jobs, as well as some crafter/gatherer jobs? But honestly adding red mage as a tank seems like it would be just a shield-less paladin with a rapier and en-magic.

White magic? Paladin has it
Self buffs? Paladin (stoneskin, etc)

The only thing they don't have is "black magic" but I still feel like it would be much more suited as a dps.

Arcanist/summoner has both black and white magics (or offensive/support magics) as well. All they're missing is a sword.

PLD's ability to use white magic is also nearly non-existent (at least with Cure; not sure about Clemency).

Are we sure we want SAM? It uses a katana, and sword equals tank to these devs...
