Not being able to SB dungeon gear for materia frustrates me to no end
if they add slots to the item its ok, i dont really care about the limit, its stabilize stats between lvl
i actually like this system eventho it is not fully implemented in DoW gameplay (it would be nice if they did)
but it does play its role in endgame crafting,
just ask FC or LS member if they can meld for u (or maybe some strangers on the streets), its not that hard to ask
in my opinion, what is needed now is either a secondary enchantment type that can be applied to all gear. or endgame gear getting fixed amounts of materia sockets, which will let the player change out the materia put in them, (at cost of losing the materia already installed). no additional sockets can be added. the major concern I see right now is, you can't just go grab a full set of relic gear and use it because you will be lacking in Accuracy. as the game stand right now, due to DPS weights, some of the crafted gear ends up being Best in Slot, because you can max out the stats and the end game gear is poorly balanced.
Materia System? What Materia System? I'd hardly call what we have as any kind of system, hell I haven't bothered with a single piece of materia in any crafted armour or accessory all the way to 50... Ive passed that point now and enjoying DL stuff and saving up for Myth gear...
Shame really since I'm a crafter at heart but abandoned the whole pointless waste of time to concentrate on DoW... I'm just glad other areas of the game have kept me interested or I'd have left.
Then Materia is pretty much worthless as a system of improvement. Are you honestly saying this is vision of gear up until Allagan: providing only marginal performance increases to gear that isn't cutting edge and has only short term usage before moving on to the next higher tier? That not even going to the number of primary and secondary stats being quite limited, making only a small amount of materia being preferred for any class, and others (elemental resistances) without use or relevance.
What does the dev team have against DoH? I'd glady suffer through 1.0's crafting and meld system once more with the potential of viable gear than put up with these glass ceilings. which will only make people resistant to participating in the game's economy.
Material melding IMHO is pointless, I just sell it to the suckers... I mean people who use it. The only players that really need it are DOL & H. I'm one of the suckers at that point. Its a broken system from days long ago.
The spirit bond rate is absurdly slow, it was just fine back in 1.0 and here's why;
First off, even with the best melds, the HQ iLv 70 gear isn't that hot compared to Mythic. Secondly, just getting tier 4 materia is a complete pain in the ass. Not only does it take forever to spirit bond, but doing so with iLv70 gear is incredibly expensive (it's either that or use iLv55 gear and pray for a T4 instead of T3) and you might not even get the materia you want. Then you factor in the fact that you lose any materia that's removed from an item (wtf?) as well as a failure on a forbidden meld (which is fine) AND that you can't re-sell used gear, so if you meld any materia to an item and then you decide you're done with it, it's a total write off.
All of this actually *hurts* the value of durable goods rather than increasing it. If materia was just a bit easier to come by, you'd likely see a spike in gear sales as more people would be out spirit bonding and the price of materia would drop a bit which all told would be a blessing for everyone. I mean wtf are we going to do once we get access to Tier V? We know it exists, and given how awful it is just to get T4 I can only imagine the insane cost T5 will have (and I'm speaking relative to a Legacy Server here; the prices on a the newer worlds must be astronomical).
Materia is in serious need of reforming (as is food but that's another topic) both in how we obtain it and its function. For one thing I'd really love to see Critical Hit Damage come back at the very least, possibly even attack/magic attack/healing potency or God forbid Enmity, though YP said they're not planning on expanding the types available -_-
Oh yeah, and all that +SB rate gear does diddly squat which is also ridiculous.
