Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster.
I'm having trouble hitting some numbers that I hear other dragoons hitting at this ilvl. I'm ranging around 395-405 at i101 (here's my current gear set up: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/MVBE)
I'm using the rotation from this guide as well, here's what it looks like from my perspective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kJX...ature=youtu.be
And here's the best parse I've gotten with a ton of crits: http://imgur.com/Wkd1GYM
If anyone has any advice, is it possible to reply to the video or PM here, up to you. I'd appreciate it big time... I feel as if Im doing what Im told but I'm not getting the same results as everyone else.
Thanks.
Pretty sure this have been asked before, but after the first opening rotation, is it better to pop IR and LS (with FT) as soon as it's up? Or would it be better to hold them back for B4B? And while I'm at this, do you guys reset the rotation of CT > FT (popping CDs and jumps in between) or do you carry on whatever you are doing and pop CDs along the way? Say, you just finish CT > FT set, and all the CDs are up, would you do FT > CT or reset CT > FT while popping CDs?
Don't pop IR with Life Surge, LS already guarantees a critical hit so no need to increase the crit rate with IR. The cooldown for LS is shorter (60secs) than B4B (80secs), so if you always wait to use LS with B4B you'll potentially have LS waiting for 20 secs before b4b is back up. I use all cool downs as available. If all buffs are up, all dots are ticking, and no cooldowns are available, always go with the FT combo.
Sorry for making it sound confusing, what I meant was, should I pop IR and LS (separately) as soon as it's up, or should I hold them back for B4B? I wonder if someone did the maths on this before?
For life surge I think it depends how long is left on BFB cooldown, if there is like <9s on B4B you should hold life surge so that the crit benefits from the +30% of B4B.
Saving life surge for every B4B is not alot worse than using it on cooldown. Ignoring DE and HT buffs, over a 320 second period using life surge on FT assuming FT is always ready as soon as it comes off colldown, then using LS on cooldown vs with BFB is like 3217.5 potency vs 3267. So not alot of difference. However life surge will not always be used as soon as it is up like BFB can because you will need to wait for FT. So basically need to just use best judgement on when to use it.
I strongly suggest to every new Dragoon of the community to check the opening post and the first pages of the thread. You can have a lot of insight and useful information. Plus there's some terrific work that some members put in there and is worth to be checked. Like this one about CD priority, the first pages cover this as well.
Anyway what's happening to the Dragoon community in this forum? It used to shine in the old days and now we have people discussing about Chaos Thrust be useful or asking mindless buff on the job. :\
Silly question but I never really tried to do it lol...
Can you fall from Titan platform doing an elusive jump?
I've been a long time DRG and has visited this page quite a number of times before. Got the main stuff down, just working on polishing the small stuff and tailoring my rotation to every fight :x
But then again... the saving IR to pop it with B4B always seems like a grey area to me, I know I will miss out 1 IR for every 4 pops if I hold it back for B4B, but those critical during B4B just seems really awesome... Kinda end up holding them in the end, which seems to be a bad idea :/
And yeah, the complaint on chaos thrust really made me lol'ed a little XD
Yes Erudain, you can. At least about a month ago I backflip'ed off the cliff before. Miss it by a couple pixels lol >_<
Yikes....that's a pain.....I use it to dodge WotL if I'm the middle and have nowhere to go, but the few times I had to do it I was at the other edge from where I'll end up.
Then a couple times I thought about doing it, but I refrain myself because "hey if I fall and die, that's a douchbagery thing to do"
I think I'll do it now after a clear just for the lulz
I'm going to assume this is place to ask a question, cause I'm literally frustrated. I'm i94 (i110 neck, i100 bracelets/earrings/ring and levi weapon) and I'm only doing 300-310 dps in turn 8. I've sat on a dummy and used the rotations/ogcd abilities outlined on the first page and can pull 360+ w/o mercy stroke. Am I just bad? is there something I'm missing about this fight? I'm hit capped and just downright sad.
Nah, probably just the small stuff here and there where you need to pay more attention on like popping cds/pots late. I'm falling behind on dps too in SCoB which is why I came back here seeking advice.
Getting back on track, just to double check again. Assuming everything is ideal, and there is no need to hold back any cds, is the following list below true?
GCDs (in order of priority):
- Ensure HT buff is up
- Ensure Dis debuff is up
- Ensure Chaos & Phle Dot is up
- Poke the mob with FT combo
o-GCDs:
- Always keep B4B, IR and jump on cd (don't hold back IR for B4B)
- Save PS for jump
- Save LS for FT
- Pop the other 3 jumps as seem fit
I'm normally on mine tower/mines duty
I was popping jump whenever off cd even if PS is not up. Is that bad?
And yes I only LS for FT
There might've been one or two instances where I applied ID combo without HT
Forgot about tips for t8, I usually interrupted my rotation and drop Phle and ID on avatar, so I can put Dis on DK as soon as it spawn and is in position. And I usually just pop DD on avatar as soon as it's up rather than saving it for DK.
Are you using legacy camera view on t8? If yes, you might want to consider learning to strafe or target lock on avatar depending on kb+mouse / controller. Those auto attack adds up quite a bit over time.
And if you're casting Final Heaven during the fight, you might want to consider dropping dots on avatar first before casting.
Lastly, make a quick macro with sound effect for TP song to notify your bard if you're not using VoIP. Either that or temporary drop Phle if your bard is busy singing MP song instead.
Good luck raising your DPS~ I'm cheering for you! :)

Got this couple nights ago, so sexy I couldn't resist!
For someone that has been trying to clear T5... congrats! It does look sexy and everytime I use Ariyala's Gear Calc. I always love to dream of making the ultimate DRG gearset just too see those rad stats!
Question on drg for Levi ex fight. Are drg good on that fight? What dps number I should b looking for? I'm ilvl93 and I know how to play the job. But I started farming it, but having problem keeping 200+ dps that I'm having problems.
I've got a question about the benefit of Disembowel to other party members. Particularly the 10% Piercing Resistance. I'm wanting to change classes - I know it's cliche but I'm changing to Ninja - within my raid team (Raid Leader and majority of players are supportive) but we've got 2 Bards and they're concerned that if I change from DRG then our (the raid's) DPS will suffer because I won't have Disembowel.
I've spent some time searching the net for numbers on Disembowel and Damage and can't see if it makes THAT much of an impact... I know 10% is a decent number in a Coil fight, and I know we don't have details on what abilities Ninja will have but even if I can get a general consensus on how much of an impact Disembowel makes. I'm still going to search for numbers/info and if I find anything I'll post my findings as well.
I'm looking forward to changing to Ninja, but I'm also not wanting to put my Raid team in a big disadvantage.
How about bringing your DRG to raid (and ninja everything else) until your ninja is geared up to similar level? Dis really help tons with two bards on the team if you can keep it up nearly 100% of the time (which you should), save the time where boss is disconnected from the fight.
I can tell you that in just the brief testing on a dummy with our bard the numbers difference between me hitting it with disembowel up was an extra 40 dps for him. that being 370 without it and 410 with it over the course of 3 minutes 30 seconds. Again this wasn't tested more then a few times and dps over a 3 minutes and 30 second test will still fluctuate given lucky crit streaks ect but only by a few dps so I think it's safe to say disembowel is a good 30 - 40 dps increase which is pretty close to the actual 10%
hi guys something is bothering my mind, I've been doing t6-9 with my group, and I realized that my dps most of the times is the lowest between the dpsers.
we got two smn, and one brd (two brd if solo tanked).
now my stats are really great and I liked it so far (518 crit and 302 det), I'm always at the acc cap, and I know how to pull my rotations just fine.
yeah ofc t8 is my moment to shine, and I'm pulling over 380 there, and yeah my group got really high dps in general (we're skipping the 5th tower without lb in t8)
but I feel like I'm missing something, and I don't feel so good being the last one between the dpsers.
the only thing I can think of as a weak point is my skill speed, I got 404 (not found) skill speed, but it's affecting that much on the overall dps? (and yes we're using selene)
here's my lodestone for gearcheck:

Any pics of Gae Bolg Novus yet?
If only they gave it a darker shade of purple glow like the Bishamon sword from Onimusha series... /sigh
Hello. I just finally cleared T5 tonight and now trying to clear T6. My question is: Is Skill Speed an important stat in SCoB? If so, what is an ideal point? I've heard / read stuff about SSpd coming into play in 2nd coil to the point where Army's Paeon is finally being used to cope with the TP-intensive fights.
Here's my current set: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/MWPZ - in terms of Body, I'm always concerned whether if trading the 24 Crit and Det from Wyrm's Mail to use W. Astrum Suit is worth it. I thought of probably I can just fill the Crit and Det loss with Food, but just wanna ask for a firm reason.
Any help / clarification is much appreciated. Thanks!
I'd guess so. I always researched and most threads said that as a DRG you gotta prioritize CRIT and DET than SSpd. So basically this set is better than my previous one? http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/MWRI
*Continued from my post above*
The reason I doubt it because there's this guy in my LS that 'interviewed' me before helping me out for T5 (He didn't helped out eventually, lame). He asked my gear / stats and my rotation. I said that my gears and stats are exactly on that link I provided above, and my rotation is the exact same rotation from this guide - the Rotation Reborn. He started saying that "Oh my DRG deals better damage / You have the wrong rotation / You gotta put more Skill Speed" etc. I started to explain why CRIT / DET >> SSpd and the reason behind my gearsets, and he kept saying that I'm wrong and still gotta work on my rotation. He said "My DRG deals more damage but he's more undergeared than yours". In my thought, I'm really sure he's just this elitist guy who likes to call bullshit because he wrote his stats and he has lower DET and STR than me, and I don't really think someone with lower DET and STR and outdamage someone with a higher stat (Logically).
A topic for discussion - How much can you clip Chaos Thrust before losing out on damage?
Raw potency, Chaos has a higher potency if you clip the debuff at 20 seconds (compared to Full Thrust).
The downside is that the DoT from Chaos is unaffected by the piercing damage from Disembowel.
So my question - at what point does clipping Chaos become better then doing a FT combo?
Eye-balling the math which I am pretty terrible at (going to leave Heavy Thrust out of this for now for simplicity). Also assume you will be clipping Disembowel (so account for piercing damage), values are in potency:
ID > Dis > CT(DoT)
= 198 + 242 + 220 + (300)
= 660 + DoT(300)
TT > VT > FT
= 165 + 220 + 363
= 748
Therefore the DoT from Chaos would have to do 88 potency (3 ticks, approximately 9 seconds) in order to be worth clipping rather then using FT.
So in other words - technically speaking, you would be better off clipping Chaos after those 3 ticks of DoT then you would if you were to do FT combo.
This does exclude Heavy & Life Surge (If Life Surge is up, then FT would definitely be more beneficial).
What do people think of this?
Huh? I don't know if I'm understanding you correctly but are you trying to say that clipping CT after 3 ticks is better then using FT combo filler lol?
You left out on your maths that CT dot will be ticking when both clipping CT and when using FT combo.
The only time you should be clipping CT by a large amount is if you knew there was a disconnect of 20s coming and could time your CT to hit just before the disconnect. There would need to be at least less then 21 seconds on CT at the time it hits for it to start becoming worth it.
He's only half right, the rotation at the first page is the optimal rotation assuming you have the base GCD of 2.5, but with SS say... 2.4 GCD your rotation with your OFF-GCD skills have to move a bit. Skill Speed becomes entirely useless if you follow that rotation by the letter, because it doesn't utilize SS potential to get an extra skill or 2 off in a smaller time. An example would be leg sweep, try stacking all your skill speed gear and try to do the normal rotation, if you'll notice that if you delay using your next GCD to use leg sweep before a particular skill you'll be completely negating the effects of skill speed entirely. It's a bit hard to explain, but what I'm trying to say is, if you use a off-gcd skill in between your gcd skill and that said off-gcd skill is delaying gcd skill regardless of why (example, it became available when there's 1 second left till your GCD is ready and you forced to pop it first), it's better to wait for the next gcd to use it, so the incoming GCD won't be delayed by the off-gcd skill's animation.
Ughh wall of text, I hope you understand what I was trying to say xD
