I got Gil on for hevensturn we will get another hat that bun buns and harths won't be able to wear.

This is not okay, my day is ruined. If youre gonna be this lazy, how about you give us a discount for hats we cant wear from the mog store eh? Why charge us full price for an armor set with pieces we cant wear?
The worst part about this is when rewards like this come out, Viera and Hroth players are forced to farm and earn FOMO items they can't use on the off chance they fanta one day or SE fixes the races.
I can't wear the PvP armor or GARO armor. I didn't farm it up because I couldn't wear it. If and when SE gets off their butt to fix it and lets my character wear that armor, I won't have it because I didn't earn it for the very short window it was available.
Are they going to rerun the items and events? Are they going to make previous FOMO items available again so that people who couldn't wear it previously and didn't farm it can have a chance at it? Are they just going to load those into the store and make Viera's buy items they could have had for free?
Am I supposed to farm up items I can't use and stash them away in the off chance that someday I can use them and will want to? The longer this goes on, the more questions start piling up.
I happen to check reddit and it's nice to see both the main sub and even the meme sub supporting Hrothgar/Viera wearing hats and calling SE out for their BS.
I've just been made aware that Yoshi-P visited the Chocobo server (JP datacenter) and answered some questions today. (Source is here: http://blog.livedoor.jp/umadori0726/.../61125701.html , I do not speak Japanese but got a translation from a Discord server; just to check, I did a Google translation and it supports the actual human translation so I'm safely assuming the human translation is the more accurate version)
Specifically relevant to this thread:
Not gonna pretend it's much (at its core, it's just "Soon(TM)"), but it's the most significant update I've heard in a fairly long while, even checking other translated interviews and such.Quote:
Q: Please add more hats for Viera!
A: We're working on adjusting the system for Viera and Hrothgar wearing head gear, please wait patiently!
Given the wording of "wait patiently", I'm not expecting the update in Dawntrail's release... but maybe we'll see something in the Dawntrail patches rather than having to wait forever?
i'm looking forward to when they make the strife hair available for viera
We have all heard this so many times before but look where we're still at. They were supposed to be attempting it going forward in Endwalker but look at all the rewards and gear they release every patch that we can't even use.
"Wait patiently" is going to end up being in years at this rate. Maybe by the time the game hits maintenance mode in 8-10 years we can start to wear BLM or RDM hats.
We don't have to spread more falsities in order to express frustration and discontentment. We have not "heard this many times before". YoshiP hasn't touched this subject with a 6 foot pole since mid Shadowbringers' when his only claim was that it would be difficult due to clipping blah blah. They absolutely did not profess at any point that they were working on adapting headgear going forward with Endwalker - their promise applied to hairstyles only and they followed through on exactly what they actually claimed they were working on. I've been knee deep in this for years and I know for a fact this is the first time EVER that YoshiP or anybody involved in XIV's development has directly confirmed that they are, in fact, actively working on addressing this exact problem.
I'll add we've known since 6.5 that work was beginning to be done because the primary maker of the Viera headgear mod discovered evidence of them beginning to adapt a few hats a few months ago.
So I hate how information like this only shows up in small interviews but Yoshida apparently visited the Chocobo server and he answered some fan questions.
One of them asked about the Viera and Hrothgar hat issue and he said that they are currently working on adjusting the modeling system for them to wear them all.
Another player asked about more customization options and he did confirm that we'll be getting more after the 7.0 graphical update so hooray I guess.
This might be out there, but I wanted to point out that at the developer panel last Fan Fest they said something that caught my attention. With the Dawntrail release, they have redone all head models and worked them in such a way as to have an equal amount of polygons for every race. Standardizing the head model across the board. This could lead to why they could be able to start adjusting hats only after the release of DT. Another thing that they showed was how they tested VFX in the game. And showed a particular scene where there were hundreds of models all with the same effects in a testing area, this was done to test the server load and how many calculations the system was doing.
Now we know that for all of their shortcomings, Viera and Hrothgar both have amazing-looking faces, very nicely sculpted and with seemingly better textures, and dare I say even more polygons than the other races, so much so that in every visual update, Viera and Hrothgar seem to be the ones that just have their textures improved. That could be because the polygons that they used for this races were more than the standard race, adding that with the hats, there could have been too much overload on the game data for a character. So in the new graphic update when we know they are increasing the polygon count for all the races, then it would just be a matter of adjusting the headgear to fit.
To me that sounded like a better explanation of the situation and the 'whole modders can do it, why can't they?' Most of the time the mod is on the person's side, not displayed to everyone else. So the amount of calculations needed is smaller. So if they had done the normal test and saw that it would negatively affect the game performance, they decided against it, until they could increase the memory load.
This is what I think they might have done, while I work in the field and have a general understanding, I saw it through my lenses, but this might just have been the confirmation of what they wanted to do. I get people are upset after this many years of waiting, but we seem to be now a somewhat priority after the visual update.
That's a load of bogus for "someone in the field", all player faces more or less have the same amount of polygons and texture sizes, not that any of that has anything to do with hats, the hair models simply aren't set up for use with hats. There's was never an excuse other than them not wanting to do it or blaming it on Covid. Though after 4 years it looks like they finally started doing it with the newest unlockable hair for viera as some have mentioned here earlier. Imagine if they had done this from the start, could've saved a lot of dev time.
Have you read what I said, or just skimmed through it and got angry for no reason?
I said, during the development panel they have said that they worked on all the faces for all the races to share the same number of polygons, this has been done to make the job of gear fitting easier. This has been shown during the panel at the EU Fan Fest. The textures for Viera and Hrothgar are of much higher quality than the ARR races. And while it's true that no variation for the Viera and Hrothgar hairstyle has been made for when they wear hats, it is also true that a hat would add an extra amount of polygons for the character, making the engine do more calculations in the process. That would be a lot of data for 1 character, a thing that the engine might not have been equipped at the time to handle. With the visual update, they have specified that now they could increase the number of polygons per character rendered, in so making that they can finally add hats to this race without causing a massive strain on the game. And they know this because as they have shown when testing VFX they add hundreds of characters on the screen to test the performance. A playable race is included in the VFX.
So tell me, what was so bogus about what I said? I don't work for SE, but there are certain practices in the industry that we all follow, to a degree. I just picked up on it.
People be getting mad for NO REASON. You just repeated exactly what they said themselves at the development panel of EU fanfest regarding the standardization of polygons across models for improved lighting and shadow gradients, specifically the 1.0 models (using a Lalafell as an example) of lost polygons/low quality gradients created by the transition from 1.0 to 2.0 that they're working to improve. Either way I honestly expect we might hear more detail about this in a few days.
Viera and Hrothgar literally have roughly the same amount of polygons, same texture compression as well as resolution there wasn't going to be any more strain than a miqote/elezen/au ra or anything else wearing the same goddamn hat with those extra polygons. I don't care what they said at fanfest, they've been dishonest before.
And please don't even dare talk about how the "ears" are extra polygons when tailed races exist.
Chill
You need you need to calm down.
You want your point tobe accepted.
But dont want to accept other point.
That's mess up
The keynote was disappointing. If they were going to announce work on Veria and Hrothgar hats, I would have expected it there, but complete silence. Instead they reworked dyes for gear for everyone else, all the other races got a face lift while viera lost their bunny nose, and they showed off a lot of AF gear that suspiciously look exactly like the ones from previous expansions viera can't wear.
Joy, I guess we just need to go around again another 2 year of feedback and complaining every event, glam release, and reward that viera can't use and maybe in 2 year with 8.0 we can wear more than a couple pieces of headgear and have a somewhat feature complete race.
So with the final graphical update update having come and gone and no hats announced, how we all dealing with accepting that it's just never going to happen?
What excuse do we think will be used for why Hrothgals can't use hats? They dont have the slouch of the males, or the long ears of Viera. Only thing that would need to be done is make hat versions of the dozen or so Hrothgal-only hairstyles.
Based on what I saw at the keynotes I'll stick with my previous guess that female hrothgar will be able to use all headgear and it will be a slap in the face to the other "limited races".
Fans and SE defenders will use the new "free" fantasia that SE is dangling over everyone 's heads as an excuse that everyone should fanta off Viera then with the free fantasia so SE doesn't have to fix the race.
Well, I suppose people will get their hats one way or the other

Hot take I've said before but I would rather female Hrothgar launch fully headgear compatible ahead of any Hrothgar-Viera than the alternative of them being made half complete again and provide more back-burner work for the development team. I actually gain nothing out of a situation where newly fantasia'd Hrothgals join the "please wait patiently" crowd. I'm not so vindictive that I want to see others suffer just because my preferred race hasn't received much-needed updates yet. The more complete female Hrothgar come the faster they can work on the others without needing to backtrack. That said, I do not believe they will launch with any more headgear than the males and Viera because male Viera didn't launch with full hairstyle compatibility either and received the same updates as female Viera throughout the duration of Endwalker.
Also, this "it's never happening because it wasn't shown off at fanfest" thing is sillier now than ever. They didn't have any hairstyles to show until the 6.0 liveletter. They are working on it. They confirmed it at JP fanfest too in a small nod toward the end of the Viera graphics update. When they have something to show for it we'll know. Right now it actually is a work in progress which is something it has never been in the past. Perhaps it's just me not really caring enough because I think most headgear looks bad anyway, but it just feels needlessly obtuse to hear "we are working on this" for the first time ever and twist it into "guess it's never happening". FFXIV players are so dramatic.
It isn't backburner work when they never plan to do it. Really, we need to just give it up. It's never happening.
Their "we're working on it" is about as believable as George RR Martin saying he's still working on the next Game of Thrones book.
I'd honestly like it more if they'd just be honest and tell us it's not something they plan to work on. Because what now? It wasn't shown or talked about at any of the fanfests. So the new goalpost is 8.0? 6 years after the races were introduced is our new "maybe it will happen then!".
Yeah, the fact that yoshida's "we're working on it" was from an unofficial Q&A really makes it not hold a lot of water for me. If it was true, that's the weirdest way to address something that is easily one of the most loudly requested features on social media for this game.
If they were really working on it they should be shouting it to let people know they're being heard and that they don't have to worry, not in an offhand comment barely anyone would see.
I don't think I should comment on the first part, cause I went a few months earlier on a tangent on how I hated that M. Viera got released an expansion before female Hrothgar and how I would have preferred them to hold them until they could release both. So me saying that the person doing that comment is bad or whatever, just because he would like to halt the hats for female Hrothgar... would be very, uh.. pot calling the kettle cracked, or something...
Would I like them to be released with full head gear compatibility? Yes. But I don't think it would be happening unless it is done to Male Hrothgar and both Viera as well.
I do think they would start working on them, people are asking them left and right. I just think it was not a priority as of yet, and still think it isn't until the visual update is done. But I do believe the team is working on them. And Female Hrothgar might have been created with porting hats in mind, like male Viera were made with porting hairstyles. Remains to be seen.
What does "unofficial" even mean in this regard? What counts as an official interview? Whether or not it was said at fanfest? Whether or not it was said in a liveletter? Does it have to come with pictures and footage? Because there were plenty of things at fanfest that were mentioned and had no key art at all, so are those not official either? When you boil it down this is such an arbitrary distinction when those were his words on questions he chose to answer in-game. Folks said he had to be lying of confused about the Adventuring Foray too until that was confirmed at fanfest, but I guess it also doesn't count because there was no artwork?
I would consider it to be when he's speaking officially for SE at an event, presentation, or interview. I wouldn't consider offhande questions he answers while logged in on his personal account to be considered official statements, the same way I don't consider the personal remarks of a Community rep to be the views of SE.
If that's the case that he is speak as an SE rep where was the official translation? You shouldn't be making official statements in one language and leaving others out. Where was the verification at Fanfest that they were even working on it? If they were officially stating they were working on it at that fan event then why wouldn't they just mention it at fanfest as well?
SE's silence at fanfest speaks volumes. They aren't working on this in any major capacity and they do not have this planned for the near term, otherwise they would have included it as an aside for their upcoming content, since they weren't afraid to show a thousand foot view of other content we won't be getting till 7.3 at the earliest like the foray zone and the lifestyle content.
Trying to use a single line at an unofficial Q&A where he was asked questions casually as some evidence that they are working on it is so silly. I'll believe it when it comes out of the mouth of an SE rep when they're actively representing SE at an event, announcement, livestream, or interview with an outlet. Something that has some kind of accountability behind it other than being posted on a blog and translated by reddit.
Man, you'd think they'd have a big "DO NOT GIVE HROTHGAR OR VIERA HATS" notification for the people doing the CGI trailer work.

I think part of the problem here is simply mismatched emphasis on the relevance/importance of this subject in relation to fanfest announcements. Simply put, and I know it hurts to hear this, Viera headgear is not considered an important enough announcement for a 2 hour block where they have to go over everything from story to new battle content to the massive graphics/dye update. Now, you may consider it the most important thing ever, but clearly they do not. They also don't really like to make promises without having results to show for it.
I'll give you a great example. Viera hairstyles were not mentioned in any capacity at any fanfest at any point ever. They were referenced first in what you would call "unofficial" interviews until the 6.0 liveletter where YoshiP shared a few images including a female Viera in the EW NIN gear sporting a ponytail they didn't have access to as well as a later liveletter that included more examples. And yet Viera hairstyles were a fairly big project that saw consistent results through the entire expansion. So historically speaking "if they were working on it they would have mentioned it" is a deeply untrue statement regarding Viera and Hrothgar.
It is unfortunate but as much as Fan Fest is for, well, fans, it's also a big commercial aimed at potential new players and gaming media in general to report on the game, telling everyone during the keynote that two races can now wear hats is kind of confusing non-news to most people. It could've been brought up in a panel (and maybe it was? I haven't heard.) but I'm not surprised they're leaving it for a Live Letter reading, if they are in fact doing it.
When they revealed male Viera they did make a comment saying they had made the necessary adjustments so additional hairstyles shouldn't be a problem, and this thread (myself included :o) whipped into a frenzy because it sounded like male Viera would have every hairstyle available at launch. Surprised Pikachu faces when male Viera released in the same state as female Viera in terms of hairstyles, just primed to start adding more every patch. So IF they're actually going to work on headgear I can't see them doing it only for female Hrothgar.
As a new player I fell in love with the Hrothgar instantly. None of the "weeb" type races really felt distinct and unique enough. You just have weeb with cat ears, weeb with dragon ears, weeb with dog ears, weeb with bunny ears, small gnome knock off, orc knock off, elf knock off.
It didnt bug me at all that Hroth had limited hairstyles and Im not really bothered by the fact that we cant see our helmets. Heck half of the robes I am putting on dont even allow for a helmet.
More haircuts would be a welcome addition, I feel like they ripped the haircuts from the other races and a good 3/4 of them dont really look great on the Hroth. As for headgear, that would be a huge task to make everything work/fit but it would be nice I guess, though it's not a gamebreaker for me.
Sighed - someone who only subbed because Hrothgar exist.
If they have been anything regarding updates to Viera throughout EW it's aggressively fair. Male Viera were probably ready to have every hairstyle dropped on them at launch but they chose not to do that so they would maintain parity with female Viera through updates. I expect it will be the same with female and male Hrothgar. They're going to launch with all the hairstyles and headgear male Hrothgar have access to going into DT.
And yeah, as players we all care about different things and it can be easy to forget that the subjects that are the most dear to us are not necessarily the subjects that are the most dear to the devs or other players. Being told "please wait patiently" might come across as patronizing because many Viera/Hrothgar players rightly feel like we have been patient through years of our feedback falling on deaf ears. Thus the sentiment emerges that our patience should reward faster results, apologies and a big announcement in front of everyone when... that's just not how the dev team historically goes about fixing things. They do it quietly in the background. And we know they are because there was already evidence of it in the 6.5 patch.
Are we getting more hairstyles tomorrow and if so which ones are left?
