Sell Fantasia on the Mogstation

Yes, but this is FFXIV, not GW2. What in-game balance are you refering to? There is no PvP yet in this game and even if there were, the PvP could be adjusted seperately, so why not simply introduce a "buy gil" option like in F2P games and GW2? Why does it matter to you if someone else paid money to get better equips than you, if those equips won't matter in PvP or if you never play PvP to begin with?

And before you say "game balance": you can make sure you got items that are not overpowered so that the gameplay is balanced for you. Why would it matter if some chooses to pay to make the gameplay for him easy-mode?

You see, you need a strong foundation to build an opinion on, otherwise it is just some random line you draw. The foundation I use is: I do not think it is okay for a company to sell anything in their item mall that is a part of an important aspect of the game. That's why it is ok for LoL and PoE, but not for GW2 nor FFXIV to sell vanity items there.

The difference between paying for a re-customization and "easy mode gameplay" are you serious? there's a fine line between personal preference and difficulty settings, I wouldn't even know how to explain that to you, it's pretty common sense isn't it?

changing how my character looks doesn't affect anyone but me, buying armor affects the world because it gives you an advantage over other players.

pretty sure you can expect it to be implemented soon, along with name change, server transfer etc...its standard issue with just about any MMO out there.

I think I'll be a bit annoyed at Fantasia being some stupidly expensive Grand Company item. Rather just pay the $10-$20 for it on Mogstation and call it a day.

One can very much argue, that you have no advantage of interest over other player if it doesn't affect PVP. Why would it matter to you if another player simplifies his pve experience, when you can choose to have it at a "balanced" level? You are not pvping each other.

It is standard issue for just about any MMO to go F2P as well if it becomes more profitable than P2P. So let's do that too in a year, right?

If the logic is that other mmo's also charge the same fee? Other mmo's also don't strongly guide you into using one and only one character. This isn't like the others.

Or is this your first mmo? After 2-3 years of playing the exact same character with the same looks non stop see how you feel about paying extra for your fantasia. Just wait till it happens :) These games can go on for a while...

I can tell you what FFXI did, they charged a high price for server transfers on a month long cooldown. As is the standard.

If FFXI were to ever have considered adding an appearance change, I can guarantee they would have followed suit with the other MMO's of it's time and charged for it, and slapped on a cooldown.

I still find it hilarious how "vanity" is weighed in at anything at all. the way your character looks does not effect gameplay balance at all. granted, it may be more important to some people then others, as it's somewhat important to me, BUT, its' not a game breaker. not in the slightest. arguing about how a "cash shop" will turn this into f2p or "pay2win" is ridiculous. all assumptions based on other companies doing something with other games. last i checked, SE never did it, & I for one dont assume they will or wont. if they want to, they will or would have already. point is, people dont want cash shops. i dont, the OP dont, no one does. no one wants to "pay2win." and last i checked, how "cool" i look wont give me an advantage over other people lol. if it does, i feel bad for the people who invited me to group cuz of how i look alone. that being said, the "service" like transfer world service, effects only the person buying it. CD or not, it doesnt effect my gameplay if you buy it. it doesnt give you an edge on endgame stuff over me, if you buy it. it doesnt give you an edge in pvp against me, *once its out* if you buy it. so if you have to spend a few dollars to change aesthetics, so be it, the game doesnt get easier or better once you do or dont buy it

In a PvE game, it doesn't affect YOU if someone else bought a super-weapon from item mall. Sure he makes the content easier for himself, but you can have your "balance" by simply choosing to not use that weapon.

you havent gotten to endgame yet, so as far as your PVE experience, youre lacking. as far as how it impacts PVE, it's pretty simple. if you BUY your weapons, or armor or what not, you essentially buy yourself spots in groups, where people who dont buy the items, grind to get similiar, if not the same value, items. simply put, when you sit in Revenents Toll trying to get into a binding coil group, and ppl who "bought" their weapons and gear who never did AK or Titan HM, beat you out simply cuz of their Min/Max, you will change your opinion on PVE game balancing.

level 1-49 is a completely different game from level 50, and when you're not there, you dont see it as well as others. You will when you need to start doing CM runs, AK runs, and getting into a Primal HM group. granted, that doesnt neccessarily count if you are in a great endgame FC, but you can not always bank on that. you still need to compete for spots in groups.

I do hope they consider this, and let us know soon. :) Character makeover services seem pretty standard in MMO's, but seeing as how there wasn't even a barber shop in 1.0, I guess I am a little nervous that it will be years before they allow additional Phials of Fantasia to be obtained, or that it will take them 6 months to say "Thank you for your suggestion, the dev team will consider it." ;_;

I'm hoping for somewhere in the <$10 range. I put a character makeover in the same category as a server transfer -- that is, a service. Sure, the Fantasia is technically an item, but it can't be sold or traded or equipped or apply any sort of buff/status to your character or give you any appearance that you couldn't otherwise have. It simply allows you to change things about your character's appearance that are otherwise set in stone (unlike gear looks and minions -- you can change what your character is wearing and what minion they have through game play).

Well its in SE's interests to get it right.. and largely dependent on who they imagine keeping as subs over the long term. If they only intended to keep hardcore square fans (and be fine with their minimum 400k or whatever) then they can get away with milking their "fanbase". For more general mmo players.. it may or may not be enough.

Do they reserve the right to milk a (temporarily) captive audience? Do they want to be generous to encourage/ease longer term commitment? Up to them to decide which most in their interests.

EDIT: I'd probably also want to argue that this is straight up milking of players. If SE had to engage a customer support staff member to do it for us, or they had a developer create custom hairstyles, then by all means, SE did new work for us, so charge away. With fantasia this is not the case.. we do pay a service fee monthly for access already, which is generous considering the pc mmo market at the moment. Charging ontop of that is pushing it. Whether wow does it doesn't concern... its better to see things as they really are rather than follow status quo. Or just straight up wanting more money..

If one is a dps like you are, due to low supply of healers and tanks, you will have to compete with other dps over spots to do endgame content. That's a necessary consequence of the scarcity aspect in the game, one does not need to reach lv50 on a battle class to see that.

If "powerful gear" was introduced into the item mall, the specific distribution of those dps will shift towards so that the dps without a such weapon would be less likely to do endgame.

This of course only affects private groups and not public duty finder ones.

However: why wouldn't it be okay for tanks to buy powerful gear from the item mall? Tanks would always be able to get endgame group due to them having so low population. So they aren't really competing with each other to be able to access endgame content.

Of course, one could argue that by the introduction of such equips to the item mall, the population of tanks would increase significantely. However, if that increase is not enough to make tanks compete against each other for endgame content, would you be okay with it?

I don't see a problem offering this, either. I know people are freaking out about cash shop things. I don't see a problem having CERTAIN cash shop things. There are games out there that have cash shops that are all purely cosmetic and have no stat/buff/etc type gears that make Player A stronger than Player B. The only way I can see some problems with certain things such as minions, cosmetic gear, etc is if 1. Any form of stats are given (such as above) and 2. If this somehow hinders you from playing - the minion gets in the way when you click, the custom outfits for some reason disturb your way of looking at a battle - in which case they should add options in the menu to remove these (do not see other players minions, do not see other players custom outfits, etc.) However, as stated above, these should NEVER be pushed to the point where they are causing unfair advantages.

You purchased this game and agreed to a pay to play contract without an additional item to change how you look. If Square Enix decides to charge for this item because players want the ability to change their looks, this in no way whatsoever effects the fact that you paid for a pay to play game for the specific services provided. You do not have to buy this item to advance and/or play this game. It has no effect on you, so stop complaining.

Because that dips into the "Buy to win" situation, instead of earning the gear people would simply just buy it.
Its a VERY slippery slope where people become bored very quick when there's no reward for effort.


The reason other games offer a "buy to win" solution, is because they want to make money fast. Those games have investors who've invested into the development of the game and want a return ASAP, the easiest way to do that is a cash-shop. Square Enix does NOT have investors, the game was funded out of their own pocket, so there's no rush to earn money from FFXIV, for them the money they've spent in their own long term investment that they know will reap a return over time, just like its predecessor FFXI did, the most profitable game they've had to date.

Wait... I'm confused, you're talking about the potion that can change character appearance right? Don't you get it for every 30 day sub you make? Or am i missing something????

Only comes with the first 30 day sub so far.

Well as right now with as many of copies the game has sold ps3 and PC the game is already in profit area. that's why 2.1 is already on its way first months subs are due as well.... I am more than happy with what they are doing putting new content out ever 1-2 months and keep the game great..

they have the task force banning RMT and botts now as well so things are in motion Keep on Charging SE

I'd like this as something that pops up on the recurring sub rewards every 3-6 months - a little optional extra for those that want it and those that don't can simply discard it or keep it on their retainer. No harm done either way.

Most F2P models have restrictions on how much you can buy in one sitting / certain time frame. It's a counter measure against someone who may have access to your account and billing information and bleed you dry.

I just want to change my hair every week. If i can have that with a 2k Gil cost, i would not need Fantasia potion.

I too would like to see this. I used mine to turn into a Lalafell and I desperately wish that I could be the Roegadyn that I was previously. Being a race that I don't enjoy is negatively impacting my gaming experience and I would be more then happy to pay a little money in order to rectify that.

Please SE for once listen to what your customers want and let us have Fantasia for sale in the mogstation...or in game at least.

I'd be willing to buy it. I have the Fantasia from my 1 month veteran reward sitting in my bags still. I keep waivering on using it but right now it's just a point of no return and I'm worried that I'll end up preferring what I once had. I'd happily give you my money to fix my own regret.

what is a fantasia?

I think this would be a great addition. Why would we need to pay real money though aren't services like these the exact reason why we pay a sub in the first place?

Anyway I'd love fantasia to be somehow possible to acquire in the game.
