I'm pretty sure those who are complaining haven't actually hunted for the drops. If that were the case they'd stfu.

4 hours later no body from the Ququrin mob yay
then do that for FFXIV -.- 3-5mins is a joke they should do
Low ranks NM- 15-30mins
Med rank NM- 1-2hour
High rank NM-2-6hour
Then HNM with 2-8hours with a random window time.
This is very casual and the higher the NM are the harder they are to kill but still need to kill them within 30mins before they rage.
you know if these were on a two hour spawn timer this thread would just be called "Seriously 2 hour repop on NMs?"
=p
It's not about the repop timer. It doesn't make anymore sense whether it comes back to life 36 hours or 5 minutes later. It has to come back to life sometime so more than 1 player can fight it.
I have noticed that it seems to be a reoccurring trait that the previous FFXI players are the main ones complaining about this. Some breed of masochists that enjoy camping mobs for days, weeks, just to get gear that would be replaced anyway. This is untradable equipment for midrange players that will be replaced in a week or so. Why is it such a big deal that people can easily get leveling gear?
The nms are 3-5min and there dumb they don't even use there own type of ws/spell. There the same like others mobs with high hp they even pop faster then real mobs you should never have NM pop faster then the mobs around the area itself. So ya i can't care less how long it take to pop as long as it fun to fight.
They are called notorious monsters not rare monsters, just thought I should point that out.
Because the hardcore are desperate for any confirmation that they're special and elite when they truly aren't. The world's beaten their ass so badly that the only arena left where they feel good about themselves in relation to others is the archaic MMORPG arena where at least they impress a few people. They want to look better than you. That's all it is. All it ever was.
Now even that seems to be taken from them, and they QQ for how much the game reminds them what they really are. Average and common.
I personally have not faught any of the NM's. Thats how Casual they are.
I think it would be a good idea for many people here to come to the realization that this is not FFXI-2. This game is trying to remove a lot of the traits in FFXI that scared off a lot of potential customers. This includes and is not limited to the UI, combat, NM spawnrates, and gear acquisition/min-maxing. The fact of the matter is, this is not your gear drops from Lizzy. These are not your 24 hour NMs that give you gear that is still viable endgame. These mobs drop mid level gear that will be replaced within a week if you level accordingly.
I think the majority of people are actually mad because they think this is all SE has planned regarding NMs. However, I believe you will still have plenty more of your long spawn time endgame gear dropping NMs that require a full group of Rank 50s. However, the midlevel range of players need content too, in order to keep them interested.
this night I have done 2 LS's groups, and we have started to hunt NM in cassiopea and cedarwood.
Someone was camped by another group, but no one was aggressive, so we have had a good time.
Some drop was useful, something wasn't, but the most important thing, 16 players (and more) have had fun.
what else?
Please don't change the system SE... please don't. This is the time when you shouldn't listen to your players. Don't do it. Keep your vision.
Tanaka's was the right vision for where MMOs need to be. It was just horribly, horribly executed.
Assault and salvage represent where the genre is going in terms of endgame.
Land Kings and Valkrum Emperor represent where its never going again, because they make a fractional minority feel special and privileged at the expense of actual quality content.
The biggest shame that came out of FFXI was years 2-4 when it concentrated so many horribly self-entitled elitists that we'll *never* get rid of them trying to push their agendas onto any FF MMO because they think this series *stilL* belongs to them.
If you give that kind of player an inch they'll choke the life out of everything around them forever. Like freaking Kudzu.
You can't even compare them to a stray cat that you feed once. They're more like racoons that get into the garage and eat your cat's food, and now that they know there's food there they will never stop trying to get in.
how unfortunate, all MMOs are designed for ages 10-14 now, looks like game over, say good bye to what was a potentially good game. As stated in previous thread by others, this game might not make it with stuff this easy. Sometimes i feel like I'm playing Dora the Explorer. Effortless trash atm...
How do you get these new NMs to spawn. I tried searching all these threads but no luck. I'm at level 30 and haven't played in a few months but these new NMs seem cool.
They just spawn every 5 minutes (by clock, not time of death) as long as it isn't already up.
So for instance, it spawns at 6:35. It takes you until 6:41 to kill it, so you won't see it again until 6:45. You claim it again and kill it at 6:49. You will see it in a minute or less at 6:50.
easy mode? waiting for screenshot for defeating one of those NM with char under R30(non full party)
Ha Ha Ha...
I'm all for the instant respawns with low drop rates. I'd rather have something to do for the three hours it takes to farm the NM than kill it, wait for an hour, kill it, wait for an hour, kill it and try to get the item that way.
In my opinion, it takes as long to get these items as the hourly pops did in FFXI - but at least you have a small chance of getting it every 5 minutes rather than having to just sit there with your thumb up your ass waiting for the next repop.
The claim wars are more exciting this way, as well.
If I had to sit in a field for three hours to have a 1/50 shot at claim every day again, I'd scream. Those days are over and good riddance.
To those who have nothing else in their lives but to sit around playing MMOs for 12 hours a day, who want the game to be excruciatingly difficult and take the maximum amount of time so when your no-life-having ass finally achieves greatness you can look down on everyone else with the security that with their petty girlfriends and jobs and social lives they'll NEVER have the time to become as good as you -- find something else to stroke your ego to.
I am sorry. I make a correction.
No one but the NEW people that will come in the future or are already here will fight these at the right rank. Because that is who these NM's are made for.
I think it's fine.
Fast respawn rate with low drop rate.
I'd rather have 24 hour respawn and .01% drop rate. The drop rates with the spawns are ridiculous!!!
That's kinda overkill...(ok, a lot overkill)
The majority in this thread are right: Mid-level NMs don't need ridiculous spawn times/drops.
But I do think that 3-5 min is a little too extreme. They could at least increase it to 10 min minimum. That would give 6 spawns per hour and keep the items at least a little "special".
I believe there will always be a cookie cutter gear set. If all gear has different stats then people will find the gear that has the best stats and everyone will start to wear that. The only way to fix this is to give people multiple styles of gear with the same stats on them, which I don't see them doing. Seriously they need to limit what we can wear a tiny bit, I hate people thinking gear doesn't matter, I have 390 mag defense, and some other thm shows up in all crafting gear and leeches our party and dies from magic damage, I lol and boot the person. Stuff like that. I can see those of us who want to wear gear that's right for our classes but still have more options.
My friend in LS get his blue LNC armor after 7 HOURS killing the NM, so...I'll take the 3-5 min respawn rate, thank you.
The higher spawn is also very much more conductive to the creation of a good community.
Just a couple of hours ago I was camping Downy Dustan with three other guys from my linkshell to get our Loyalist Bliauds.
After a couple claims, a mi'quote from a Japanese linkshell approaches us, and asks us if we want to join forces (fighting in more numerous groups is more efficent, obviously, as it allows to kill the mob faster, making it repop every time, instead of skipping pops), and we accept. They disband and we create a full party together.
Then we restart camping, while we chat a bit a third in english, a third in japanese and a third with the autotranslator. The drop rate is low, and the dam sheep drops a LOT of canvas cowls. In the end we're all laughing, as everyone wears his canvas cowl and starts fighting with it.
http://twitpic.com/4mbcy0/full
The result? We got only three bliauds (and canvas cowls to outfit an army of friars), but we still had a LOT of fun, we met new people and made new friends.
With this system, teaming up with complete strangers to achieve the goal is a very common occurrence (it happened most of the times in which I went to camp the new NMs with a non-full party). On the other hand, with the overly exasperated competitiveness created by the long spawn times of FFXI, other people camping the same NMs were seen as the *ENEMY* to undermine at every chance.
Which one of the two options is better in a MMORPG? I would say that's rather obvious.
This is how I view monsters outside of a "normal" monster:
NM = Named Monsters: slightly harder than your average monster, rapid spawn rate, not tied to special conditions or other place holder mobs, may spawn faster than "normal" monsters, gear that is for short term use, quickly replaced with higher level gear
SNM = Special Named Monster: harder than your average named monster, usually drops non-special gear that may or may not be tradeable, easy to fight with, solo or with companions, rapid spawn rates, rarely any special spawn conditions, may be force spawned or regular spawn from place holders
NoM = Notorious Monsters: (Aka Dodore, Baffalo, Uraeus, etc.) Which are higher than Special Named Monsters, may or may not have multiple competition, drops relatively common gear, may be soloable with certain jobs/skill level, slightly longer spawn gaps than SNM, usually not special spawn conditions, and a casual fight to mid-core level
HNM = Hyper Notorious Monsters: Longer spawn rates than most monsters, drops best or rare gear, hardest to fight, commonly different spawn conditions, and most likely has claim wars
Atm, we have a few NoMs and a few NMs, and no SNM or HNM; the current mobs to fight aren't difficult. Some require groups just because of damage output; however, they are neither difficult nor special. Argue about how Dodore is hardcore all you want, but it isn't. Argue about how you want this lackluster gear to drop at once per four hours so it retains some amount of "specialness." But it won't. As soon as someone else has that same piece of gear, it is no longer special. Good night everyone! :D
I'll take it as well. Had an LS party Saturday running around killing various NM's, most of us at or around its level: Cactuar Jack X 3, Daddy Longlegs X1, Old-Six Arms X1, Gertrude Dodo (forget name) X 2, and Spitfire X 3. Out of all that nothing dropped. Like many others have said, it was nice to actually fight the mob multiple times within a small time frame, then to wait an hour or two standing around chatting about how we can't wait for it to pop. It was also a refreshing change that for both Cactuar Jack and Spitfire we were taking turns with other LS' so both groups could have a chance to fight it. Definitely wouldn't see that with 1 hour+ respawns.
You forgot those fearsome Velveteen Gowns.. By the way, Adaraa and I ended up getting ours shortly after you left.
Anyway, back on topic.
Yes, while the spawn times may be "short", some forget how overcamped these mobs are and how miniscule the drop rate is. Should these NMs be as overcamped as they are now with a 3 hour spawn rate, everyone would be crying over that. It certainly would not have been as fun as it was last night if that were the case. http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/113092725-4.jpg
My first experience with the NMs involved the two in Nanawa Mines. When fighting Quickfingers, we were trading pops with another group, then teaming up with them. In the end, everyone got what they were looking for and all were happy, even if we did end up killing that NM about 20 times. I think the way they're set up is good, since it promotes teamwork and friendship while at the same time removing the competitiveness and frustration that was camping NMs in FFXI.
