I like to bake.
As I've been glossing over these forums in the past few weeks, I find myself ever more fervently wishing that I could bake pies, cookies, cakes and cupcakes for the dev team.
*sigh*
Ferne is lying, the rendered model must be closer to final product, Im always right and everyone else is wrong
I can't believe Ferny had to come out and re-clarify this...some people in this forum could make Gandhi flip a table in rage..Elexia keeps spouting BS left and right i'm holding my right hand atm to not type what i really want to. Pulling TERA and WoW into this is stupid as it gets....not a single god damn primal looks identical from one game to another and not a single primal has different color in-game than what they do in the Artwork...the only in-game thing that doesn't have artwork colors is the BLM AF but that's irrelevant ,This Shiva looks AMAZING!!
Fernehalwes
You are my hero.
Nope, I had not. I work two jobs, and I just got home for the evening. Got 5 pages in and agreed with others who expressed their opinion that the coloring on the render was way off. But reading Ferne's post was a big relief (and I made an edit to my post to acknowledge that).
For those with snarky comments about how it should be obvious to the people who posted those opinions that the coloring won't be the same as the finished product... might I remind you of a phrase that bit us in the arse in the summer of 2010. "It's only beta."
I never assume with SE that something is not presented as intended unless it's made abundantly clear.
Anything else, whatever. But when it looks like they're gonna start deviating from conventions like a blue Shiva, I start to question the devs' frequently mentioned goal of fan service. That being said, I'm excited for how she looks now that I know those colors aren't final. I'm also curious if there will be some NPC comment on the emergence of the more humanoid Primals. Garuda was a start, but Shiva, Ramuh, and Odin aren't animal-like in the least.
Concept art not blue enough?

Look at zone concept art and then look at the zones in FFXIV... nothing alike (at least in 1.0) lol
Its not obvious, specially when you have no idea what that software was. I know the basics and to me it having color meant that it was nearing final completion.
That said some people filled everyone in on what that software was - and why the colors are not the final/real colors, even made us cute pictures :D.
There are those of us who aren't happy with EVERY choice Yoshi-P and friends have made. I think he's the best director they could have picked, but I'm still wondering why he decided to ditch 1.23b's wonderful battle system in favor of Global Cooldowns. I know it's not a matter of copy/paste, but it could not have been hard to replicate. We'll just have to see in beta and the final product.
To be honest this thread is still much better than the Grass thread. Let's all stop arguing over whether or not we were right to question the Shiva images and start giving feedback on Shiva herself. It's a beautiful and detailed model and I can't wait to see her intro cutscene.
Really? Really now? Even though you quoted his post?
Damn, maybe they should've just shown the whole thing in the default red clay color.
I'll save my opinion about this one until I see the model complete with textures and such. As it is, it doesn't even have them. It's just "solid" colors here and there, probably to differentiate certain parts of the model.
What is yoshi-p choose is different matter, what I asked is, did he ever say something and failed to deliver it? or it become completely different? Im tired of this "look what happen at 1.0 beta" stuff. Yoshi-P and team give their best, they are hardworking people and listen to players feedback. Even if what they think of what is the best , is not same with ours, at least they usually (or maybe almost always) deliver their promises. Its kinda retard to scrutinize them for everything, even for an obvious Work-In-Progress!!
Fernehalwes as always you win the internets hehe :D
Also..how come when Fernehalwes posts it does not count as a dev post on the dev tracker? o.o
Oh just STFU already...if it was anything like you keep saying even when evidence of the contrary is adamant, so many people wouldn't be raging over not been legacy members...people have figured out the game IS GOOD and is nowhere near a clone of nothing. You simply can't be taken seriously when you insist in comparing Yoshida's process to tanaka's in 1.0 they are not alike in the slightest
To be fair, you and your white knighting are just about as annoying, if not more.
At least her more realistic (or rather pessimistic) attitude is somewhat understandable and easier to agree with at times. Especially considering the position of this genre of games atm, and the direction in which all of them seem to be going.
Keeping your expectations lower and being a little more realistic is definitely much healthier in the long run than exalting anything and everything SE does. Less chances you'll be disappointed later on and such, you know?
Seriously, just put Elexia on Ignore. You'll be far happier. She isn't interested in real discussion. She is either trolling out of boredom, or so wrapped up in some bizarre world of hyperbole that rational discourse just isn't possible. Either way, the best response is to 'Ignore.'
I don't know I like the new Shiva model. She was always one of my favorite summons. Here she looks great. I'm sure they're not done yet but it looks great so far :)
Oh noes another rep post to clear up peoples reading comprehension...
Pessimistic as Elexia often is, he/she often has input about the game that is fairly accurate. Realistically speaking, they've let us down with this game so we have good reason to be fairly critical of what is being created for us as a means to make up for the past letdowns. At the very least, I don't think it's trolling but some kind of harsh criticism (deserved or not) towards SE.
Anywho, I'm glad the Shiva related issue got cleared up...though I myself thought from the start that what Fernehalwes said was pretty evident without clarification.
I get the whole we have been let down before.... but that was the old team.... The new team hasn't let us down yet, with anything in my opinion. So I don't really understand where the negativity is coming from.
I honestly can NOT believe that this had to be clarified. Some of you guys need to take your ff goggles off and explore something new.
I suggest Zbrush.
I am actually incredibly curious about this... I really want to know what they have let you down on. Because I really don't understand what they could have let you down on. I'm not saying this to say that your wrong or anything. I just haven't been let down at all and I want to see your side of it. Right now I'm just confused.
I have expressed everything I haven't liked from the changes they've made in a lot of my previous posts. Things like the changes to the combat system in favor of a stagnant standard, the switch to quest oriented leveling, again in favor of said standard, the watered down animations... not sure if there's anything else that escapes my mind atm.
Oh yeah, the change to the movement controls which caters exclusively to mouse and keyboard PC gamers (uncomfortable as hell and inconvenient with a gamepad; wish it was just an option), GCD, Hmm... what else was there?
Ah. Alright. Thx ^_^
Though I'm pretty sure a lot of the 'watered down' animations are just placeholders. Though I could be wrong. We shall see in Beta. Plus we don't even know if they are keeping everything from alpha. I didn't love everything from alpha, and I do hope they change some things. That's actually one of the reasons I'm so excited for beta, so I can see what changes they have made and what they haven't. ^_^
Mage Spell Sets
Removal of CC spells
Imposition of CC effect on Weaponskills
Quest Based Leveling
All Dungeons are Instanced
Ridiculously low Drop Rates
Removal of Position based combos
Archer Auto Attack
Instant Transportation
All Medicine Sharing a Single Timer
Failure to address Power leveling
Paladins having lower health and defense than Warriors
Just to name a few.
I really don't like to think about it all the little things that I personally think are bad design choices. None of these are game breaker and I understand some people agreed with the decisions, but all the little things do add up. It makes you more concerned about future decisions.
I don't care how "obvious" things are to other people. I will not stay quite if SE even hints at something I don't like. Maybe people will agree with me, maybe they won't. Maybe SE is ignoring everything I say, but I'm not going to boot up ARR knowing that I didn't speak my mind on every potential issue that comes up.
And just to finish it off, earlier I wanted to display how shaders and materials can affect color in the program, and now that I'm home I may as well show it.

Really though, it's fascinating to see how Square's digital sculptors do things.
Well we do know that animation blending will be present in beta (maybe a later stage of beta not right away).
That should be help make everything look better.
I think we are all excited for beta - just some think differently then others. Like "I dont like the way that looks" "Its not official" "how do you know" "Because I feel so"* "..." lol.
*In this case people had better arguments then "I feel" but the obviousness of those arguments is only obvious once shown, so in that case it wasn't obvious. "Thats a beautiful Fourier Series", may be obvious but only to those with knowledge of such.

That's not high-res, that's just Image Size > Make Bigger. A real high-res shot would be nice.
Something with more megapickles.
