Sorry to bump this but... this just happened. XD
Wii U!
Didn't Microsoft already answer to SE in this manner?

At least that's what i read somewhere...
They never said no. It was more of a disagreement on the Xbox live situation. They allowed XI simply because they knew it would drive Japanese sales and gives it an RPG on the system.
well these numbers suprise me a little, but i researched a bit and it seems at least xbox360 sold alot this year.
This probably has something to do with the dropping price both consoles experience. at this time its no wonder ps3 and xbox360 are catching up but you should consider the wii released later and reached 70 mil early 2010. thats 4 years after release in 2006.
So you can consider the wii still more succesful (both popularity and income for nitnendo) than sony and micro.
i dont know what your image of the wiiU is, but its certainly not required to "wave" your controller.
I dont even know where you got this, sure the wiiU supports the old Wiimote but the gamepad is the actuall controller.
Besides there is a pro controller thats designed for hardcore players.
So the targeted audience this time is actually both casual and hardcore. (as you can see in the line-up of games)
And just to reiterate that point:

5 GB day 1 update leaves the basic system with 3 GB left, what was Nintendo thinking having such a small storage space.
(Fixed your number)
The basic system shouldn't even exist in the first place. Unless you totally abhor Nintendoland or absolutely have to have a white console, the deluxe set is a far better deal. If you have the 8GB system, you have to have a USB hard drive to buy downloaded versions of disc games.
Nintendo doesn't have a target audience anymore. They are offering games for all audiences. As has been mentioned several times before, I'd like to ask you just how family friendly Assassin's Creed, Bayonetta, Mass effect and zombi U are.Quote:
All power to SE if they want to put the effort in to working in all the features of the Wii U, more players is always good. Although I don't know how many people it will realistically draw in considering Nintendo's target audience. Just dont expect it an time soon.
Seriously doubt it even possible.
My friend bought a Wii U and he said he couldn't download Tekken Tag 2 off the store because it took up 17gb. It was either get a 32 gig, or buy an external hard drive.
Any MMO such as Dragon Quest X prob will require the 32gb or an external hard drive. Its kind of bad when you make someone buy an accessory just to play your game.
Its most likely it can run on it. Question is.... do we want kids to play this game? Nintendo all about friend codes and what not so its probably not gonna happen. None of the hardcore player base will be on the Wii U, just kids under 14 mainly.
Aiming for Wii U wouldn't work in ffxiv favor because Wii U is aimed for kids and many kids don't play MMO's.
If I was Square Enix id be aiming for Directx11 for ffxiv 2.0 after Ps3 launch thats if the game is good. Then aiming for next gen xbox and ps4.
it was the same for PS2 Owners if you remember that.
but you are right.
and i think the hard drive's space just sucks on the Wii U.. i cant even understand how Nintendo can sell a console with 8 GB... its just ridiculous. even if they try to support their e-store..
but obviously.. they can...
they saved their money in the wrong place.. my opinion. its a torture for all Wii U owners.. when you just can download 1-2 games even with the pro edition and thats it.. thats a fucking joke ;D
32 GB should have been at least the hard disk drive for the standard edition.. and not 8 GB.... ;XD
are you one of these kids? ;XD Zelda is not only for kids.. my opinion.
many people use the wii u as party console... adult people.. believe it or not.
And games like Zombie U, Assassins CReed, Batman Arkham, CoD are for kids also? ...: *iek*
Its still a system aimed for kids doesn't mean they have titles only just for them. Zelda still aimed for kids but its still a good game for all ages. Rest of those titles already are played by young kids nowadays. Mommy and Daddy and Grandma buy Wii,gamecube, wii u for there kids. If your even playing ffxiv right now and on the forums im sure you own every top system in the market right now or dont need to cus you think PC is better.
Wii U does not have friend codes. Neither did the only semi-MMO-ish game on the Wii, Monster Hunter Tri. Instead, it has Nintendo Network, which is more like Playstation Network or XBL. You have a username and password, and you can become friends with anybody without sharing a code or anything else.
Wii U is not aimed at kids. It's aimed at all audiences. Tell me? Is Zombi U for kids? Assassin's creed 3? Bayonetta 2? Why do people keep saying it's for kids when they haven't even looked at the games that are available?
Also, FFXIV needs players. Until it gets more established post ARR release, I wouldn't be picky and choosy about its clientele.
Mommies and Daddies buy xboxes and playstations too. Please, stop stereotyping nintendo as only being for kids. Yes, Nintendo did have a lot of censoring violence and stuff in its past, but that's all gone now. The Wii only had like 2 or 3 M rated titles its entire existence. Wii U has more than that in it's LAUNCH LIBRARY. It's blatently obvious they are trying to appeal to more audiences now. If hell froze over and the Halo franchise moved to Nintendo, you'd probably still be saying this.Quote:

Um, hello? how about just buying the hard copy? you dont need to isntall anything than. At least with a normal game, dont know abput DQX.
The internal storage is mainly for small games like virtual console or the hopeful GC games in the future.
WiiU actually uses a kind of BluRay disc that has 25GB storage. So you really cant expect much from 32 GB with that anyways. Anything bigger would probably take a HDD and make the console more expensive. Besides who doesnt have a storage device like an external HDD or usb stick 32Gb+.
I seriously dont see why people are complaining.
You dont need to download retail games or install anything from them (beside saves)
I am fine with the 32GB, i dont think nintendo intended the internal space for retail gamse beside the small ones like SMBWU. Many prefer hard copys over digital anyways and you dont rly have any advantage with a digital version.
Besides srsly who doesnt have an external HDD these days.
There is advantages and disadvantages to digital copies. But these days some people prefer a digital copy over a physical one.
Advantages
1. Don't have to go to a store or get it shipped to you.
2. You can buy the game download it and play right away.
3. Faster loading. The game loading from the internal memory or hard drive is much faster then loading from optical drive.
4. No need to change discs pick your games from the menu.
Disadvantages.
1. Linked to 1 system, so can't share with friends.
2. No box or instructions
3. Takes up storage space on your hdd.
4. Can not resell the game or trade it in if you get bored of it.
I personally don't see why people are bashing Nintendo. Their games are fun and didn't PS3 outright COPY the WII with PS move anyways?
Lets look at evidence PS3 fanboys, shall we?
Nintendo released its controller for the Wii, Sony scrapped their boomerang-like controller and put a motion censor in their OLD controller. Then PS move? You can not say anything about Nintendo's choices as a Sony fan when Sony outright copied exactly what they did.
Now, I don't own a Wii or a Wii U. But I do respect Nintendo as a gamer for everything they did for home gaming. They are after all the only console developer actually trying to change how games are played. Also you can use a traditional controller for the Wii U.
As for kids games? I didn't know games like Assassin's creed 3 and Darksiders 2 were made for kids. Mario has always been cartoon-like but still fun to play once in a while. Zelda is still a series that is fun for everyone to play. I'm sorry but games like call of duty are crap, its just the same recycled trash over and over and over again... Oh wait, black ops 2 is on Wii U as well..
If you check the history of video games, several old consoles released very crappy games that almost killed home-gaming all together back in the 80s .Then Nintendo came along with their Seal of Approval and refused to let those bad games get released which is when we got the timeless classics. Zelda, Mario... FINAL FANTASY which was squaresoft's(at the time) last ditch effort at a successful video game and succeeded.
If Nintendo didn't exist, we may not even have home gaming, if we did it wouldn't be as big as it is.
it might be my personal opinion but i dont think the advantages outwight the disatvantages.
1.Sure you may save some time and money if you have to drive to a store, but downloading sometimes takes awhile depending on your connection.
2.You can buy the game install it and play it right away, not so different from downloading and installing it.
3.This is not always the case, it can load faster on some games and depends on severel factors.
4. a relativ useless feature, to me at least. its more of a luxury.
my biggest issue with downloadable games is the price policy. since publisher dont want to anger retailer an cause a boycott, prices are more than often even higher. This is utter nonesense to me since you cant resell the digital copie and the value of digital should not be higher than a hard copy. i would support digital distribution if there was a resell value or the price policy was more in favor of the consumer.
Looks like they are smarter than Microsoft with just this lol.
I can see it being possible if they up the storage space, but 32gb is the current top for Wii U. And it depends on if Wii U can actually install game data too, or else you would need a 50gb Blu-ray disc and have everything constantly being loaded from it, which wouldnt be good.
If they never put my PC game on another console again, it would still be too soon. Consoles are subpar machines compared to PC's and if you have to cater to the low end of specs all the time, it seriously brings the game down as a whole. Sure they got sliders and can scale etc, but they still have to make content that can run on a console. Eventually it will hold the game back, and we will be hearing about PS3 limitations all over again. I petition to dump the PS3.
Just because the WiiU has better specs than the current Gen consoles, 2gig of ram is pretty pathetic especially for a NEXTGEN console... My pc has 8gig of ram for $40, ANYONE can get that much for a pc lol. PCs can be upgraded as time goes on- 'Oh I need more ram.' 'New video card!' Consoles are stuck the same specs from day1 and that means the game can never be upgraded past a certain point.
Even the next gen ps4 or w/e won't be as good as my PC is now, so really it's just stupid to make games for them. I just think games that are PC only are way better, and can go a lot farther. Consoles are for the 'CoD Nation of Noobs' and they need to stay there. They even put PC and Console players on different servers for that game cause they know PC users have a huge advantage...
TLDR: NO, GOD NO, NO, NOOOOOOOOOOO- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31g0YE61PLQ -ty Mr. Scott, I couldn't of said it better.
PCs and consoles/mobiles all have their place. When you specifically design your machine for a given purpose, you can do unique and unconventional things with it that aren't (typically) done in the PC world. A lot of people also don't want to deal with the hassles of making sure that their system meets the hardware requirements for all the games they want to play, etc. The PC platform is in general superior, but consoles offer a lot of convenience that makes them more accessible. It is typically the business policies and practices of the console maker that have a greater impact on how wortwhile it is. A lot of former XBLA developers have moved to the PC (using Steam) because they don't have to deal with micrsoft dragging their feet at approving patches, nor do they have to pay $10,000 just to release a patch to fix a bug. Console makers need to loosen up a bit in this area to keep their customer base in the long term.
While the wii/360/ps3 generation really didn't have as much memory as it should have, consoles do not need as much memory as PCs do because they don't have the same level of operating system and background software running- The system software is stripped of lots of unnecessary data that would come with operating system software like Windows and OSX to support widely varying hardware configurations- Since the hardware of a console is mostly constant, you don't need to have all that extraneous stuff to be prepared for any contingency. Also, $40 can easily impact the number of people who will buy the console. I probably wouldn't have bought the Wii U (at least not right away) if it was $400 instead of $350.Quote:

Not to rag on the Wii U, but anyone really saying that the Wii U, PS3, or any console for that matter would eventually be a bottleneck for FFXIV or any other game out there is fooling themselves. In terms of control interface, you just can't have the same level of control with a gamepad that you can with a keyboard/mouse unless the devs allow for it on a console port of a game(why they never do I'll never know). Plus, you can use any number of interface devices on a PC if that's your fancy.
Of course there's also the simple matter of processing power. Sure you can say that a game console might use its code and RAM more effectively than a PC simply due to a lack of an OS and other things, but that won't matter for shit if I can build a quad-core machine with 8 gigs of RAM with a current mid-range to high-end graphics card. Then of course there's the ability to upgrade down the line. Worried about having to be glued to a monitor? You don't have to be. Just hook it up to your TV in the living room or wherever. The sky's the limit.
Consoles are fine and have their strengths(mostly just the exclusive software), but to ever doubt that they hinder anything or that PCs are lesser for whatever reason is quite an ignorant statement indeed, and seriously, building PCs is pretty damned easy nowadays compared to when I started. It's literally just like playing with LEGO.
