Being hopeful while being determined that what we've seen is the worst possible scenario? Contradictory much?

Like Gramul said a couple of pages behind:
Movement and camera are one of the fundamental basics of any MMO, hell, any game involving 3D.
In the presentation, they focused alot on the UI, which i love. The UI, the concept, the colors, everything, the UI is amazing, they could slap the UI on this version and call it 2.0 and i'd be happy. But that's besides the point.
The point is, they're showing a pre-alpha build weeks-months away from making the alpha public and we're shown a huge downgraded, almost embaressing movement component of an engine that is completely diferent from the one we're used to.
They didn't give any information regarding said movement/camera engine, that is, to me atleast, alarming.
You'd expect at this point they'd tell us if that god-awful strafing system is toggeable or not. (Atleast that, let alone finishing it.)
At this point, i'm more shocked than you that people still try to defend everything about 2.0 as if it was the second coming of jesus.
The current character movement and animation is something I love bout XIV and loved in XI, it feels like the character is really there in the world, has weight and it feels unique. I havnt seen any other MMO have such character animation and its what makes FFXI / XIV special to me.
After watching the presentation I was disappointed to see the lack of character animation, it turns on a dime like any other MMO.
She may defend SE and will even fight against what Yoshi himself will say, but no one can argue that unlike XIV 1.0 where they should have built off of XI, ARR had XIV 1.0 to build off of, yet there's apparent downgrades. ARR Alpha shouldn't in any shape or form be a downgrade to XIV 1.0 at all.
How about any game, period. Kinda hard to play when you can't see anything and can't move.Quote:

But a lot can happen in a month. And it could be two or three months since Alpha is being released "this fall" and winter usually Decemberish. They're rebuilding the game. They're not going to use movement from 1.0 because movement and animation was one of the game's biggest flaws.Quote:

It's not that 2.0 is going to be the best game ever from Alpha day one, but I have no reason to doubt that 1.0 wasn't all that peachy either. 1.0 was a set back for Square, and 2.0 is supposed to be the "redemption". So forgive me for daring to give them at least the benefit of a doubt.
Exactly. To paraphrase YoshiP: Why rebuild a game for lower quality? It makes no sense.Quote:

I apply this reasoning to movement as well.
Thank you. This ^
And since this is turning into a "Blasphemy, u dun berief in grorious deverupur, 2.0 shall cur cancer, die infidel!1" Kind of thread:

Volfield has his review for the game written up already and ready to post on Kotaku.
-Complain
1. to express resentment, displeasure, etc., esp habitually; grumble
2. (foll by of) to state the presence of pain, illness, etc., esp in the hope of sympathy
-Concern
-A troubled or anxious state of mind arising from solicitude or interest
How can we "complain" if none of us knows the state of the animation on release?
We are "concerned" that the animation will be downgraded, and we try to explain why it *would* be bad if it really gets downgraded.
ENGLISH.
Use them accurately.
You guys complain about every little thing.
OP i hope you have seen XIV 1.0 pre alpha i really do from the bottom of my heart i really do.
you see your whoooooooole "concern" about the movements is based on a Pre-alpha for 2.0 shown in gamescom 2012 and like FFXIV 1.0 three years ago when it was in pre-alpha state the movements were like 2.0 pre-alpha one.
yoshi already said that the game hasnt reached a finished state gdi we already have 2-4 months away since its finished too.
but in the end i really get why he decided to put a live letter now its for these meaningless threads that are going like yours that complain or have a "concern" about every little thing in 2.0. to me and to some guys (maybe) who are saying to you its a pre-alpha or even "this thread again" its like "eating raw meat before cooking it"
Exactly.
Using a pencil is something that takes place -by your own definition- before the Alpha. Therefore.... (i'll let you figure it out by yourself.)
Pre-Alpha is not a "stage". It is simply a term to define the time BEFORE the game is ready for an Alpha test, and as i already explained, that time could be either years or minutes before the actual Alpha test.
Get -your own- definitions straight.
Well, wrong. If you agree that an Alpha is not a stage of core development, then IDEALLY, the remaining changes can be defined as "fine tuning". That being said, i'm not denying the fact that changes of core elements can even occur in Beta, depending on the situation.
This is where i'm starting to question your intellectual capacity. Let's see what you're replying to :
-"i know the difference between character animation and adding a +8 AA a week after open beta."
And now let me simplify it :
Its like me saying : "I know the difference between apples and oranges"
And you replying : "Apples have nothing to do with oranges, apples are red and... i thought you knew the difference between apples and oranges"
I mean, reading comprehension man... focus.
I don't. I sure don't think though that changing the core moving animation of characters can be considered "fine tuning". What is your point?
Let's see what you're replying to again :
-"If you do understand what animation is, you could even go as far as dismissing my concern as meaningless, since we're so close to alpha that nothing this big can change at this point."
Protip : Any sentence that starts with "If you... you could even go as far as..." proposes a hypothetical situation. No i don't know what SE will do with the animation, nor did i ever claimed to know.
You could, -and i hope- you're right. That doesn't mean we shouldn't make our concerns public early on though, just in case the animation is heading the "subjectively wrong" way. We have every right under freedom of speech and just plain logic, to address the issue and ask for clarifications at this time. That's all there is to it.
Oh-really.jpg
Look around you. I'm obviously not the only one concerned about this issue. So its *our* not *my* concern.
Go back yourself and find me one single quote where i claim to KNOW the future state of the animation in ARR.
I wish you good luck on your journey, and may gods have mercy on your soul.
Compared to character animation, the rest of the issues usually addressed during Alpha/Beta, can be considered small talk about the weather. A bugged quest compared to animation is really, small talk. Again, i'm not absolute here, big stuff can change. Though the fact remains : The sooner you address some issues, the better.
Now you're just embarrassing yourself.
Frequently Asked Questions - When will the alpha test begin?
Square Enix - We are currently aiming to start the alpha test sometime this fall.
I said November since its the last month of ... the fall.
To be "proven wrong" i need to have a position, a thesis, or an argument. Since i, (and also we) only have a concern and i ask for clarification and awareness, i can't be "proven wrong" per se.
I sure hope that you're right though, and the amazing work of the animators doesn't get thrown away.
You guys complain about every little thing.
It's grass 2.0!
I'm sure they fix it.
Do you remember the time they made it that the char can still run while he throw out his weapon and the char slided over the ground like he was on ice? They fixed this, too
Probably because the only footage we have of it is from a show. They were too busy saying stuff like "we made a totally new engine to run on lower performance machines" and "we've made the UI better" to get around to saying stuff like "look at how awful this game is now because of the lack of this one transitional animation!"
At most, this thread warranted a, "Hey, yeah. I noticed it too." And a light discussion follows where we happily speculate when the rest of the animations will be incorporated into the game play. Late in the Alpha stage, early in the Beta?
I don't even know what people are arguing about.
lol.. its funny how you are trying to twist everything, just to match it to your statements.
Esp. the last one is funny..
If you have a concern, you have a position.Quote:

Ok let me pull a "Nemy" here:Quote:

aim (http://img.tfd.com/hm/GIF/amacr.gifm)v. aimed, aim·ing, aims
2. To direct toward or intend for a particular goal or group.
So when was the Start of Alpha again? Aiming for it does not mean it will happen. And Yoshi said himself; We wont start until it feels right to start.
I dont even need to into the rest of your Post, that this 2 are enough to show that your logic fails.
Its also funny how you avoid giving an example of "twisting" from my side, instead of merely implying it.
Example of concern : I noticed the character animations in the Gamescon 1012 video are downgraded, i hope this wont be the case in the final product.
Example of position : The character animations will be downgraded in the final product and i'm mad about it.
If you think concern = position, you should really go back to school, or finish it already.
When a company is "aiming" towards a certain date, that date is not a bare speculation, random, or wishful thinking. They have a REASON to aim at that specific date. They already stated that the development is closing to its completion.
Are you implying that SE aiming for an alpha test in the next couple of months means NOTHING when it comes to game development?
Are they absolutely out of their damn minds or something?
Fixed.
Apparently, your logic is the one that fails miserably, that's why you don't want to address the rest of my post.
It would be a good question to ask Yoshi for the letter.
Its obvious. People just need to check what people originally said and how you changed comments in your post. Dont need to give an example, when they are right above, but since im nice i will give you one:
Kira said: Oh sorry, "end-game content" too! DAMMIT SQUARE!
You made this out of it: oh man, someone called my strawman! Quick! lets reply with yet another strawman!
Beside twisting thing's you tend to avoid a simple discussion. Irrc you said you want to have a discussion, then there is another "Nemy" here for you:
dis·cus·sion [dih-skuhsh-uhn]
an act or instance of discussing; consideration or examination by argument, comment, etc., especially to explore solutions; informal debate.
As i said: If you have a concern, you have a position.
That is an assumption. I thought you are the wording-acrobat and not me. >_>
Personal Attack = I hit a nerve.
This is interesting and where is the Source?
Did i say that? If not, then i'm not.
What is this about? Do you even know SquareEnix? Ever heard of anything they did in Game Development or how they did? How they pronounced things to come "soon" and you wouldnt see it for years?
I want to play ARR no matter what, but delay's can happen. Like i said above.. aiming for Fall, does not mean it will happen. It could also start in Winter, or if another Earthquake happns, in next Summer. You can not know, unless SE will give out a date.
So? Another assumption. You think you know why i dont reply to the rest of your Post, tell me how you would know? Im really curious, esp. since i told you why i'm not replying to the Rest of it.
Here Nemy, this Guy did it right.
And here you did it again..
Dude.. i never said that. Stop fuc*ing around with quotes. If you cant stand them, then leave them. It's the most rude thing to do, so seriously stop that bullshit.Quote:
Those 2 points are the only ones that i thought i could try to falsify, hoping i could get away with implying the rest of your post is also based on "false logic"
rofl, i love reading the first page and the skip straight to the last just to see how far things degraded. This has certainly satisfied my curiosity. =D
Oh really? Give me an example.
I'm still waiting for an example of "twisting everything, just to match it to my statements."
What you quoted, was me calling Bigg's strawman, since he was the one originally twisting my words to fit his notion that this is a "non-issue", by changing "the way the character runs while changes direction and being subject to inertia." into "Oh sorry, "end-game content" too! DAMMIT SQUARE!"
Pay attention, you come off like you desperately looking to find ways to somehow "prove me wrong" by definition.
Why you're trying so hard? You could simply address the things you and i were talking about, refute my points if you can, and leave others out of it.
Now, do you have an example of me twisting everything to match my statements? (whatever that means...)
lolwat. I try to address every single thing you say, while trying to keep it civilised in here. You are the one avoiding my points, almost admittedly.
The "position" that sometimes is implied by a "concern" is not relevant here. You and i never talked about if and why a downgraded animation would be detrimental to the game , we were talking about me and others, having a "concern" that the animation might be downgraded.
If you were indeed talking about my views on animation, you're still wrong that "i will be proven wrong at release" since this is a subjective issue, and you couldn't possibly know if i like the outcome or not.
Either way, you're wrong.
Really bro? That was a hypothetical position, that someone would have if the downgrade was indeed a fact, used to contrast the example of "concern"
Barely, but i do apologise.
we’re almost ready for the alpha test for A Realm Reborn
Source : Letter from the Producer, XXXV (08/30/2012)
There is another source stating a certain percent, but i really don't care to find it, since the above quote speaks for itself. (assuming you realise what Alpha test means)
Now, would i be "twisting" your words if i say that this is a strawman? I never implied that "soon" means anything when it comes to game development.
Aiming for a specific time =/= a vague "soon"
Me - "your logic is the one that fails miserably, that's why you don't want to address the rest of my post."
That was indeed an assumption. Not a bare one though.
How did you get the notion that a thread making a concern public is somehow.. a bad thing?
My thread implies a question to the developers, i never accused anyone, i simply stated what i noticed and then said "don't tell me that this is the case"
You're the one that derails this thread into secondary arguments.
Let me remind you...
I never said that either, yet i didn't whine you used this method to make a point.Quote:
But the key word here is "concern". I'm not making an argument, nor do i "whine". I'm making my legitimate concern public, with claiming to know the future state of the animation in ARR.
I even quoted your original quote right before i make the "fixed" version, so stop crying.
lol
How did you get the notion, that getting answers which does not fit your own view.. is a bad thing?Quote:

Was cleary stated, that you didnt used those words by making them bold and saying it. XD You are such a funny guy.you are completly rewriting the Sentence.. and that being said:
1. I didnt even start yet.Quote:
Why you're trying so hard?
2. You are 100 Years to early, to get what i'm "trying"...actually... its working... so hence the "trying".
