Thank you for explaining what happen there. :D

And it took forever for that to happen. We haven't seen anything truly significant like that happen for a long, long time. The money the cash shop brings in, while helpful, just isn't enough for what the game needs. And I sincerely doubt that ALL of it goes back into the game itself.
The price is astronomical for what it is, but it's also completely optional so eh.
Also, people talking about the possibility of FFXV event coming back, and with it, the car mount. How do you people know that even if the event is coming back, the car mount will become a free reward as well? Just because it was done like that before it became a Mogshop item? Wow, you people are so trusting.
Chances are even if the FFXV is coming back, the car mount will not be a part of its reward. In fact, I'd bet on that happening.
Because there is a difference in regular, season events (like Moonfire Faire) and irregular crossover events?
To date, the crossover events have been identical each time they have come out (FF11, Lightning or dragon quest), or have been added upon (yokai watch got new weapons).
Not sure there’s a reason to freak out/not be trusting?
The Regalia was never added to Mogstation. I suppose a reminder is needed that technically it was never free during the crossover. It cost 200,000 MGP at a special vendor.
SE has never removed rewards when repeating a crossover event. The same rewards are the original have always been available (and they added even more rewards for the current repeat of Yokai).
We know the crossover is coming back because they told us it will in a live letter. They said it might be in 5.4 but they don't have a definite date set yet because it needs to be coordinated with all the other seasonal events.
What evidence do you have that they won't this time when there is no history of them not doing it? Don't confuse the crossover events with seasonal events. The rewards for the seasonal events change because the event story itself changes each year so new rewards are created to match the new story.
How much are you willing to bet that the car won't be part of the FFXV crossover when it comes back? I've got an alt on Kujata so you can pay up when you lose.
I have a question, for the people who say the team for the mogstation is separate from the main FFXIV team.. where was this posted? Also two.. they must not work too hard given that most of the mogstation is old event items.
Seriously asking because I am curious as I just learned this today. (not trying to start a war just wanted to see if I could get info)
technically its $36 ($35.99) but yeah I'm not a fan of cash shop exclusive items. Especially when you consider these are recycled assets and have no way of earning them in-game. My only issue is that glamour items are single character only. I remember when fantasias were account-wide.
Unless that mount lets you reflect the themes on your personal chocobo barding, It's definitely not worth 35 dollars. That is almost a expansion purchase for a mount, cmon SE.
I use to play BDO which had ridiculous Pearl shop pricing, these times are all optional so don’t buy it simple!
Just wanted to support the idea of giving achievement rewards more love. I had actually completely forgotten their existence until someone here mentioned them. It feels like there's nothing really worth spending my points on. I also used to like the idea of Veteran Rewards and wish they'd bring them back. I know new players will definitely complain about not being able to get the items, but I'd be ok with the suggestion someone made here of them being able to purchase the Veteran Rewards from the cash shop if they really wanted them and couldn't wait to get them. I don't really care about the prestige of possessing something via Veteran Rewards and care more about saving money.
Just a reminder that the game launched without any cash shop at all and was so phenomenally profitable that it was credited with single-handedly digging SE out of a massive financial black hole. They don't really need Mogstation money, the actual game is plenty profitable enough on its own.
The cash shop exists to make even more money, which is their right of course, not going to begrudge a company for doing what it was created to do. Just saying that all the other reasons given were almost certainly made up after in order to justify the shops existence to us.
It's for SE to up the budget then, not continually tap its subscribed player base under the guise of a fundraiser that is the cash shop. It's having its cake and eating it.
If FFXIV isn't a workable business model they should be upfront about it - either raise the sub price or be honest that they need people to buy stuff or the game will fold.
Do you know why the don't do this? Because it isn't true.
Well, i don't have an issue with the price. But haveing no Headgear piece as Hrothgar on a NEW 18$ Cash Shop item is very disappointing...

Wow, 36 bucks. With that price tag, I hope it can do stuff no other mount can, because 36 doesn't suit for a mount that is essentially just a repurposed object from ARR.
Note to all the bootlickers who say this is okay: You do realize that this is almost the same price as you paid for Shadowbringers? I couldn't care less about your argument of "development costs"and whatnot.
You already bought the base game, bought the expansions, pay your 12-15 hours sub, pay additional money for more retainers. How the frick is this not enough to pay development costs? The mount, that is now repurposed, was an ARR mount mind you.
I may as well have been talking to a wall, since the cashwhales are immune to reasoning. With that price tag, I would rather go buy a different game or buy Greymoor. Way more valuable than a mount...

SE turned a shoddy product that wasn't popular and cost them money into a good product that is popular and makes them money, good for them.
I'm afraid you're going to have to explain how this relates to my point that the game is plenty profitable and the cash shop exists to make money.
Are people who dine at $200 restaurants, purchase $100 jeans or spend thousands on annual PC upgrades also "bootlickers"? All of those are luxuries in their own way. No one needs to spend $41 on a steak dinner yet they do. Why? Because they have the means and want to indulge. I'll reiterate from my earlier post, if this mount was the only Mogstation someone made all year, it comes out to the cost of two chocolate bars or a single energy drink a month. Not exactly a huge expensive.
Cost is ultimately relative. Someone making $30,000 a year will value things very different than someone earning $200,000. You certainly don't have to like the Mogstation, and can readily criticise SE. But insulting others who don't share your viewpoint is just childish.
Yoshida also said (when they introduced the cash shop) that its only for old events and stuff like name changing and race changing. And yet here we are, with more and more exklusive stuff. Hmm might be because a company would not tell the truth about this right in our faces (as in making more money..). Of course they will say that the mount would not have existed otherwise, of course they will say that this goes purely back into FF14 and that it funds big parts of it..but lets not forget that this is corporate talk..just like EA and other companies want to convince us that certain stuff is necessary..
SE should make a huge amount of money from Fantasia, retainer service, world/name changing and the old event items (items that were once in the game and put into the cash shop afterwards because reasons..). If SE truly needs that money to give us the bascis like new servers than this game (with over 1 million active players...) is really not running that great..
I really doubt that all of those mounts, pets and clothes would not exist ingame if we had no cash shop (and honestly nobody can prove it anyways..) but of course its sounds much better to say it instead of "we just want to earn a huge ton of money".
Edit: It would also be nice to not compare these prices to F2P games..unlike SE who gets a sub these other games need that income to survive..
Value does not come from cost, it comes from what you yourself thing its worth. I could make 100.000 € each year and I would still think that this mount is not worth the price (its value too low) while somone barely getting by might truly want it and say that for the joy it brings its worth the money. (And the price tag of something does not mean that its good and worth that amount)
In the end people (like me) just really dislike the pratice to put these things behind a paywall when people already pay a monthly sub and expansion. Its even more horrible when its a mount that could have easily be an ingame rewards..its horrible that we did not truly get something for the veteran rewards and yet here are mounts that could be put there..I remember the Spriggan who they released with the eastern event..something which it would have perfectly fit..
I will not call someone a bootlicker fo spending their money (but the term whale is a known and used term in the industry), the blame is fully on SE for this..but I really hate the comments that we should just not buy it and accept it..no we can give feedback (without insults of course) and for those of us who wont buy it "content" is lost. I like to collect mounts and minions but I have given up..because without spending money I will never get a whole collection.
Maybe I would be less annoyed if we got much more content since the increase of the cash shop items (and the prices..) but instead we lost another dungeon in Shadowbringer, we lost a Palace of the death kind of content and we got two parts of two races who are limited..
Not trying to defend SE but I see people do this all the time. Bring up that we lost a dungeon and deep dungeon but not mentioned things that we have gotten.
QoL changes. Updates to ARR content, like flying added, rework of quests, new gear sets added to the ARR dungeons. Changes to gathering and crafting systems, relics for crafting and gathering. New relic combat instance.(which they said you can level alt jobs in from level 71-80, so I look at it that it replaces the deep dungeon for this expansion) Ishgard restoration system, ocean fishing system. Unreal system. So it isn't like they took away that dungeon every patch and new deep dungeon and gave us nothing new in return.
As for the races. They said thast since it was the last time they planned on adding a race to the game, they wanted to give the community something they been asking for, the bunny race, and something more beastly. They didn't have the time and resources to do both so they figured one gender each. Looking back yeah they probably should have only picked one race and did both genders on it and completely scrap the other race.
Lol, the amount of salt in here over the mount. Personally i also think it's a little high but i really don't care. Why? Because i don't need it nor do i want to buy it. I feel like some people complain just to complain because they have nothing else better to do.
It'd be one thing if there was one in the game. Same model but different color (or another small difference). Thus people who want it can either put the work in-game they're paying monthly fee for or kinda "skip" it by buying the shop-item.
But this is neither: It's an item that skipped the game entirely and went straight to the shop exclusively for a high price. Higher than any mount before. $35 is how much addons or AA-titles cost. But this is a single item. Sure a multi-seat mount, but wether it has 4 or 10 seats doesn't matter.
It's not something entirely new. Floating carriage existed with 2.0. The chocobo existed with 2.0. The flying animation with 3.0. Ride pillion with 2.57(?). With 3 passengers 4.56.
It would be nice if SE added more options in the shop, though: Buy it for single-character or account-wide. If single-character, give the player an upgrade-option to account-wide (single+upgrade at higher price than directly account-wide), like SWTOR does.
(btw in SWTOR you could even do that all for free. All it needs is time. Buy with ingame-money, unlock with shop-coins accumulated with authenticator)
This is a false equivalence. Dining at such restaurants has different meanings behind them, since people do it for a wholly different reason (mostly for social status). And why are you comparing buying people spending thousands on PC parts annually to a mount?
With the PC parts you get the immediate and price worthy benefits from it, I have not yet seen that this mount has anything more than what the Fat Moogle mount has (no, 2 extra seats is not enough).
[ I know about how economy work, those who have a higher salary are also those who spend more, but that is not what I am arguing. What I am arguing is that having 36 dollars for a mount, that does not do anything special or give special features, is completely ridiculous. I would sound completely different if this mount had more to it be it a storyline, garage-like thing (think GTA).
You do realize that 35,99 is 4 dollars short of 39,99, the price of a new expansion pack, filled with content and story.
Or do I need to remind you how price expectations work? I would suggest looking up No Man's Sky for that, since they were an indie game with a AAA price tag.
Been seeing tons of people with the Dirndl outfit compared to the mount, but I suppose such is just the power of a massive cleavage window.
Not gonna shame people for how they choose to spend their money, but it really can't be denied that price point for a lot of the Mogstation stuff is genuinely absurd when even F2P MMOs offer paid cosmetics at lower prices regularly.
So many butthurts. Buy it or not, in the end its their own money. No one has any say in how another spend their money. Especially when they're strangers. Either u live with the fact that the mogstation will always be there or cry yourself to sleep over your pathetic effort to boycott/complained over it.
This is much too expensive for me.
I cannot personally justify the purchase of a single digital item for the amount they're asking. Were it ~15 bucks cheaper, I'd consider it, but I'll pass on it for now. Maybe wait for a sale. Idk.
Looks nice and, as someone who roleplays, I like that it's a vehicle very much grounded in XIV's world.
Those who complaint don't understand about luxary.
I love your explanation by the way. I work hard so I have disposable income. I've spent $50,000 playing toreba online year 3 years, and I understand to some that's alot of money, but to me it's my entertainment value.
