I hate the fact that people complain about stuff YOU CAN CHANGE, REMOVE OR RESIZE.

The interface is the more concept look you're thinking of, the rest though you could tell is real time rendered, especially if you compare how the Chimera model looks. If you load up models in a view (from any engine) they don't look as good compared to if you were to look at it in game with all shaders and etc applied.
People have the right to complain because a lot of people can see the diff from 1.0 and 2.0 FFXIV and that how the game going to look then 1.0 look better all 1.0 need is more color and more life and it be good enough but i guess w/e i get use too it but i hope they can make it look better by 2.0 come out.
I said I hated it, I'm allowed to hate whatever I want. I bought a totally different game and spent a considerable amount of money to run the awesome graphics, it's my right to complain about anything in a bait and switch scenerio.
And YOU don't know what can't be removed/replaced in that screenshot anymore than I know what can.
Wow.. simply amazing, love the fact that the shot is real in-game rendering. Very excited ...
So much better than the crap we got now.
FFXIV may well be kickass afterall.. Cant wait.
Bring it on SE !
To all you people saying "it looks terrible", "doesn't look real", "UI too much" (lol! It looks the same as it does now but more clean), I say:
kbye. See you never!
Ya sorry i just don't see it lol and trying to understand other opinion looking at FFXIV now and that pic i just don't see any upgrade more like a downgrade the only thing i see is more color and clear but ffxiv now look more natural but talking about the char not the overall area.
Sorry to burst your bubble but 1.x looks like shat! Unless you can run absolute max settings at 1080 or higher which 99% of people can't then it's graphics engine falls flat. Gaining some understanding in technology could help you. You have to see beyond the image to understand what we are getting.
P.S. Please take some English lessons or buy Rosetta Stone, your grammar hurts my brain.
No need to be rude i play my X4 and everything on standard and texture quality and texture filtering at high. The grammar that part is getting old i think i said it a few time on here that i'm LD but then people go on making fun of me saying i'm lazy. But i'm sorry my grammar hurt your brain next time just don't read my post or block me so it help you out better.
Your grammar is actually fine, though I do not know what LD is, all I know is you just need a couple of commas to divide up your thoughts better. Overall, you're readable and understandtable but it would help.
On topic, let's just agree to disagree. Your thoughts about aesthetics are all over this thread already and you're just repeating yourself. A lot.
I personally would like to see more before I judge the new Graphics engine, it looks better but it also looks like it's been Photoshoped a good deal to get more depth and colour than exists in the image...but who knows.
I'd love to see a video of the new engine when it's ready, E3 next year will be big for me.
I think its great that they have someone in charge of providing real quality control. I mean, if no one in the team has played other MMOs Yoshida has and he knows exactly what the level of performance they need to achieve to compete against the widely used engines and servers out there. I still hope that the engine will show some personality though, as I think its easy to notice that most newer MMOs operate under the same engine and that kinda waters down the "new game" vibe for me.
the thread was a little TL/DR but i thought i'd just clear something up for everyone, the box in the bottom right with the green and red squares, is a packet meter, showing connection information in a manner that most people would disregard. it's basically the send Recieve bar with some steroids in it's system.
The image isn't even in HD. Of course it's going to have clutter.
No reason for a packet meter to look like this. We aren't even sure if this was taken in a "real in-game situation". I hardly doubt that the client was running on several machine, all connected to the same server, that the whole map was generated, etc.
Even if Yoshida confirmed that this was a screenshot taken from an in-game scene, it could simple have been a static scene that took 20 minutes to get generated on screen. The UI and everything else just got photoshopped and added afterwards to basically show what they -intend- to do, rather than -what they already have done now-.
I'm reserving judgement we don't know what the original resolution that is running in was or if it was PS3 or PC. It is also very heavily compressed.
My concern is that it confirms my worst fears. Lower polygon models, lower detail textures dressed up with shaders and post processing. Which will look geat from your couch on PS3 but terrible from 18 inches away on a 1920x1200 PC monitor.
The UI looks like a big step tho. Allot can change between now and October tho so lets wait and see :)
This is what you have to understand. First of all, you may just be blabbering about the way the UI looks. For god knows that may not even be the default UI, maybe intended to show off a custom made UI. Secondly, they are custom anyways, you will be able to change the look.
If you are talking about the graphics, have a peek at the background. Kinda dark and gloomy right? Well it looks like they are fighting where the sun don't shine, so perhaps the "realism" in this pic is that they are fighting under "real" shade.
Also, you say you hate it now, and people say they love it, but we still have yet to really see what is behind the curtain, so you have no excuses to be wondering why people like what they see. Thats that, let people live for goodness sake.
They say they don't even have a graphics engine and yet claim this is in-game render...
I don't even understand how that's supposed to be consistent.
Aye, i never said it was anything beyond a concept ui with stuff rendered on the graphics engine to go under it. So i suppose what i should have said is that they're proposing doing away with the old S/R and putting a packet monitor in instead. a simple coloured ping icon would suffice for most people though.
One of the pdf's is pretty clear about it. The engine is about 2/3rds complete and is estimated to be ready by December.
The assets, though, are not being developed yet (aside from concept mock-ups). I don't think the difference will be that huge in that regard though.
Yep, they also don't take long to have a usable build. The only reason you don't see other developers making new engines is because Unreal for example is already made and does everything you can want, but they don't at all take TOO terribly long to make, especially when it was stated they've been at it since at least April of 2010.
From the Bluegartr interview regarding the UI Dev Kit:
Ragns (BG): When should we be expecting to see this? (The addon dev kit)
SE:We could start now, but we're using SQWT and the situation is that it's such a mess that it's something that players would not be able to work well with. We want to streamline things to make it easy for players so we can get the best addons from the players.
This response sounds like it implies that everything is functional but not optimized or ready for the general public. I don't remember reading anywhere that they don't have a graphics engine.
Haven't visited this thread in a while, (mainly due to having to read Zenaku every 2nd post) but if bottom right is a packet monitor then ill eat my iPhone.
Ive got a feeling that it is a Mannequin switching system.
