Go to the male mithra/female galka thread, started almost a year ago. seriously. some people say a surname post is necro'd when mostly the same arguments appeared in that thread about 10months ago. Don't try and act like you are original. This is under a different guise for a different reason - and if you don't want to read this thread for incalculable reasons then that is your own choice. - just don't come in here acting like you have a point when not even reading - cus you dont - and/or it is 10months old and belongs in that other thread. Take it there.

Are you daft? Or were you just dropped on your head when you was born? I am replying exactly to what I read and the argument between having a surname and not having a surname. Maybe you should go eat another bottle of vitamins so you can get extra smart!!

Even with both options apparently people have an issue - and thats mostly when the truth comes out too.

Lobby for the option of a singular name - choose an original one - and be done with it. Either that, or choose a last name and be done with it. Stop complaining about options. This didn't happen in the race/gender change thread.

Coming from the same person toting that games are there for enjoyment and should give us what ever option we choose?

Unfortunately you are one of the few who managed to forge a decent argument, discuss it, and see it through to the end.

"If it aint broke, don't fix it" didnt actually seem relevant.

Mostly 'cause it IS broken. And has always been a bad decision , if only a small one.

Sorry, I just can't equate "more options" with a "if its not broke" mentality.

What I was getting at was that the system that's in the game right now is working, although it's slightly annoying when a player gives themselves a ridiculous name.

Plus with all the content for patches they're doing now I doubt they'd have time to recode part of the character creator to allow optional surnames, it'd probably take at least a day or two to create a way of letting the live servers do it.

Therefore in retrospect it'd be better as:

"It ain't broke now, we can squirt it with oil to loosen the cogs a bit later though."

Which isn't a popular phrase, but fits the situation a bit better.

The game is not broke, but the people that can't figure out how to use the game are.

Again - This thread is about the choice to have ONLY ONE NAME for your character. The thread is named wrongly and I would change it if I could. (hint hint forum reps.... wink wink...)

I'll be honest, these last 25 pages have been full of GOOD debate, and for that I can only be thankful, knowing how these forums can be.

Its a forum - a real representation of democracy - I may not agree with you. But you have the right to say it.

And this is why trolls will die soon. As democracy transitions from physical reality to social/"internetal" reality. The majorty will always shoot them down. Not admiting I have been though ;).

Its just a decent debate. And hell, the forums have shown a damn lot of maturity in discussing this.

awesome, i mentioned on like page 4 that naming ones character was culturally informed, as well as socio-economic and life-infulenced.

the naming of people's characters seems to an integral part of this debate - and i'm not arguing for any of that freedom to be denied to people that want that.

I'd just like the same individual freedom to have a singular name - and as far as this "debate" has gone - It is mostly a community issue.

I know what you mean, after all, I played WoW for 5 years, so I had to get used to the whole 'single name; system.

Now that I'm playing a game with a first & last name system though I'm enjoying the extra options open to me because of it. But if people still wanted to use single names on their characters, well, that's their choice, i'm not about to say that their personal preference in character naming is wrong, only that what they're requesting may be difficult to put in place or a lay ways off seeing any possibility of being made yet.

Same as it's a long ways away before I see an mmo where my character could randomly strumble or trip, or sneeze, or cough. They aren't groundbreaking or even slightly game changing, but it's something I've always wanted to see in an MMO, simply 'cos it makes your character seem more believable if it acts like a real person. But that is only one small facet of what I'd like as an addition to simple character animations.

I'll admit almost 4,500 views wouldn't have been made without such a controversial topic name.

THE NAME IS MISLEADING. SEE PAGE 20 FOR CLARIFICATION.

I couldn't care less about whether or not other people get rid of their surnames.. as long as I can keep mine. :3
