What NEW races would you like to see?

If a beastman-appearing race suddenly became playable it wouldn't make any sense.

I wouldn't mind a summoner like race from traditional FFIV and IX, with the horn and maybe a few other unique features. Maybe some useless wings? These could even be the people who train you to be a summoner in the future... And when you equip gear the horn sticks out kinda like elvaan ears lol...

I would truly adore to have Viera added as a race. I love their styling, their elegance, and heck I love bunnies so ever since I saw Viera I was 'in love' haha. I think it's fairly clear looking at my elezen she's a bit of a poor mans Fran.

HOWEVER.

I also like the look of female Roegadyn. And I see they would be arriving at PS3 release; long before we might potentially get Viera. So what do I do? Change to a Roe, then potentially be extremely annoyed if they add Viera, either because I wouldn't want to change again, or couldn't? Wait years to maybe be Viera? I want to work on my FFXIV comic, but at the moment I can't, as I don't even know I'll be staying as Elezen. That can't go on for years, waiting for that attachment to my character. So I have to say, If you add new playable races, please add them ALL at once. OR If you do add them in expansions let us know as soon as possible. I'd at least like to know if I'm going to be waiting years to 'find' my character :/

I like the sense of attachment and pride we have in our characters, and changing them every few years seems silly to me. A one time change, sure, but not again and again. I don't want to see my friends looking constantly different. (I also love my name and wouldn't want to play a character with a different name, so that isn't an option for me.)

Can we please work on the current races before we work on new ones? They're so un-established right now. We have the tiny description we get from character creation, where apparently Duskwight Elezen 'live in caves' – where the heck are these caves? What's the story behind our races? Where do the Miqo'te live? What about these Dunesfolk Lalafell who live in travelling homes? At the moment it feels like I look at most of the races and see nothing, there's no history, no sense of anything other than how they look. It's boring and again, makes it very hard to get attached or work on creative projects, other than making stuff up myself, which is what I'm doing at the moment! I hope some consideration goes into this when re-modelling the zones.

Lastly I would like to point out playing as a beast-tribe (goblin, ixal etc) would make no sense in the lore of the game. Furthermore, imagine an ixal in the gear we have, like an iron helmet. It would look totally stupid and be way too much work to alter every piece of gear to fit such a radically different shape.

I agree with this and though dotted around the main cities there are N.P.Cs giving information. The lack of towns or cities of the races is indeed missing. It might seem unfair singling out players without the right race but a place where a race related missions are given out may make the player more attached to their in game character I think some more rpg / story telling elements can't go a miss

I loved the Burmecians, and also loved Freya. She was probably my favorite IX character. The problem is, there are already those rat like things in XIV called Qiqirin or something? So adding another rat race in the game might be strange..

(as much as I'd prefer having/playing as burmecians than having qiqirin around) XP

Firstly, way too rain on my Goblin Parade! Secondly, care to elaborate about Qiqirn and Goblins not making sense from a lore aspect? To say nothing of the fact you even stated the lore isnt fully fleshed out for existing races as is? I mean, I kind of see what you mean with other beast tribes, but I see nothing that would prohibit Goblins and Qiqirn from being playable races. If anything they are more like nuetral races, more like mercenary point of view, but hell what do you call us adventurers that do stuf for fun and profit? Idealogically speaking I dont see too big a difference. Furthermore, if you have ever played FFXI, you'd know that sometimes there were some rare good Beastmen from what would normally be considered an evil race (i.e the Yagudo beastman named Gessho from ToAU). From this perspective, there is no good reason to keep the lore that rigid..... Why would you even want to? Besides, who doesnt like an underdog?

Im seriously not sure that with all the motion capture and concept design, creation, etc etc, and still having to make armor fit a new race, that it would be any easier than making new armor but using races that already exist in the game (Goblins etc.) I for one would be ok with limited armor options (maybe Beastmen specific), if it came to it. I wouldnt want an Iron Helm either, as I'd be sporting my Goblin Gas Mask full time!!!

If you just plain dont like the idea of Beastmen races being playable characters, then thats your opinion and you are entitled to it. However, don't make up flimsy excuses like the "lore doesnt fit", because youd rather they add Ivalice races. I personally hate the idea of them adding Ivalice races, but I cant see any good in-game reason for them not to be added. I definately wouldn't /ragequit if they did add them over beast tribes though. I'd be happy they at least added more racial options for more variety.

Again, if you want to bing up valid technical reasons why they cant be implemented, or would just rather have other races then that is fine. But there is no good in-game reason not to have playable beast tribe characters. The lore shouldnt be so restictive that it kills fun, not that there is enough lore for it even to be that big of an issue.....

As much as i like the ideas that have floated by so far... I would love to see the FFXIV team do some concept art for the races ppl have been talking about and do a poll on them.. Although in the event that they did... i could see Viera getting a 80% popularity :p

I personally would not be in favor of an anytime race change service, unless it were accompanied by time restrictions and cost real money. It's one thing to change your character's hair; race is something you're born with and shouldn't just be something some NPC can adjust.



As for the actual topic of this thread, I would greatly prefer the developers added something new just for Eorzea instead of everyone's stupid viera suggestions. Qiqirn is a good one, as well as bringing in FF-style dwarves (think IV and IX here) since they're nothing like typical fantasy dwarves. Or just something completely new would be nice, like when XI started galka and tarutaru were pretty damned unique. I'd like to see something as new and unique for XIV rather than something that belongs to another game world.

As much as I would want new races down the line. I really don't think they should be from Ivalice. The Ivalice races are special, and really belong to a different world, both literally and thematically, from Eorzea. I have complete faith in Akihiko Yoshida to come up with amazing and loveable new races for this game when the time comes. I would prefer that much more.

Bangaa and Moogles as playable race Please? Moogles preferably because they were so cute in FF12.

We do already have Tarutaru 2.0, but Dwarves is the first reasonable suggestion I've seen. They've been in various FFXIV incarnations and aren't particularly gimmicky. I'm not sure they fit in with the XIV world though.

Playable cutesy races just aren't realistic. Firstly, everyone would reroll moogle or goblin on launch day, and secondly, they would ruin the feel of the game. If a new race must be added, better to stick with something already in the game like the Padjal, or with the player allied races in XI, or work on something original but believable.

Please add a race change option (with maybe a 3 month cooldown, or something?) to the SE account management page, if so. I'll gladly pay a fee to change races, so long as the price is not ridiculous.

Not really looking forward to grinding out a character, only to be stuck with a certain race option when new races are implemented; I'd rather not wait 5 years for this to be implemented, either.

Sorry, but I'm a bit jaded from FFXI's turnaround time--and to my knowledge, they still don't have a race change option available to them in that game. Like I said: I don't want to spend time developing characters that were created before new options were made available, and then forced to abandon all of my progress on my current characters to play a new race that was added years after the game launched: please take this into consideration before rushing headlong into developing new content--not giving heed to the player/customer end of the situation is something that happens quite frequently as far as I've experienced in my years of playing FF mmos. I understand there's a new development team...so, please understand what a hassle it is to be forced to start over.

Taking my statement completely out of its context, I agree. Believe me I'd roll a Shinji Ikari-type cast character in XIV if Eorzea weren't already so over-populated with the sort.

But we were talking about another feminine male option. I was declaring it's already here in plenty. I have nothing against the idea except the fact that it's already available. And that a clear and fascinating majority use it.

Take those imaginary percentages however you want, my point (which I hoped was quite clear in the original post) is that there's not much to contrast it-- Leaving everyone standing around in Ul'dah looking like a bizarre impossible number of twins, and all quite possibly Bieber's love child.

In XI (apologize for the reference again) there were what, 7 or 8 face options? While that was limiting, at least every face looked like a different respectable age and demeanor. For midland Hyurs (the most abundant race) it is bottled-necked to 4 faces. Four age groups. Now take a guess which is usually used.

My point was if they are going to add anything, please let it not be the same look that's already too readily available albeit missing bunny ears or a tail. Believe it or not, those areas are already covered. If a more masculine or bestial option isn't your cup'o tea, at least acknowledge that those sorts of PC options would further push the contrast of your already youthful, gushy anime character-- Making yours stand out and not blend in.

I think SE should allow us to race change more than once.

Make it have a long cool down like 3 months or something or make it a long repeatable quest where the story goes something like: "A Lalafell learning magic needs your help gathering ingredients for a potion that turns you into a (X,Y,Z race) and uses you as a guinea pig."

I don't want to change to something and regret it.

i think a neat story could fit in to have the ronso.... the hellguard roegadyn are protecters of a mountain said to be the gates to hell to prevent souls returning to the living, and in 10 the ronso pertected a mountain that was said to be the gateway to the holy city of Zanarkand. make the ronso and the hellgaurd rival gaurdians. maybe the ronso start an arguement saying the hellgaurds are corrupted by being so close to the gates and should no longer be the protecters, and a nice epic cutscene battle breaks lose and we get to see this thur the power of the echo from a wounded hellgaurd.

have there be a mountain on the empire side and thats where the ronso come from and thats why we currently dont see them

if it's for the future then anything is possible at this point, for now I'll give a partial description and a little lore.

A race that was banished: (The Voidas) " There's hatred towards those 5 descendant races that banished them to the void, they simply called themselves Voidas, as even the truth been destroyed and banished."


A race that was newly born (The Wordless) "Witness the creation/birth of a whole new life form, as they have just been born they have not words."


A race that was enslaved by the empire (The Enslaved) "On the other continent where the empire lives another race was enslaved by them, after they were saved they migrated to Eorzea thanks to the efforts of the brave young adventurers, however, for there race's name "Speak it not or you shall be Cursed". "

I would like to see them add the Padjal (the horned race) as a playable race, but I think the lore might not alow that, not really sure XD.
