I'd also like to point out that there is also the chance of an HQ-like result as well. One other person here was doing the same as my husband and feeding Berries from the start, and stopping after the first "new feathers" each time.
Hubby's result Desert Yellow>UI Brown>Aldgoat Brown>Shale Brown
Other's result Desert Yellow>Cork Brown>UI Brown>Gobbiebag Brown>Aldgoat Brown>Shale Brown
Also seen Royal Blue + Apple = Abyssal Blue or Regal Purple
And Desert Yellow + Plum = Cream Yellow or Sylph Green
Finished my 7th stage.
Started with Dalamud Red, fed Berries (17) until one "new feathers" message popped, and that resulted in Rolanberry Red.
Not sure if I'll do berries again.. 17 Berries was starting to stretch it a bit. I was not expecting to use that many.
My Old Post with all my stages on it.
Little recap.
Nothing but Apples - Desert Yellow > Millicorn Yellow > Pumpkin Orange > Sunset Orange > Blood Red
Berries from then on - Blood Red(+40Apples) > Dalamud Red > Rolanberry Red.

Needs confirmation without the apple use. I'll do it eventually if no one else does.
To whoever controls the spreadsheet :
You need to put more strict rules on data gathering.
The first "proc" message saying new feathers will grow just mean the chocobo will change color, not that the previous fruits were uneffective (just were not enough). But the following "proc" messages in the same feed are NOT valuable info ! They are just saying after feeding again, color would still change (you can go back with multi fruit feeds).
If you want to truly have serious experiments, you need to WAIT 6H after the first "proc" message before doing anything else, and report color change and fruits fed (which fruits, number, order even if I doubt it matters in most of the cases, etc).
If you don't apply these experiment rules, the spreadsheet is not better than the previous one you were disproving ^^
It requires a lot of patience though, but it'll bear the most valuable information we can get to map the square-enix wheel of colors and the effect of fruits on it.
Pineapple:
R: + 5,5
G: + 2
B: - 4,5
Apple:
R: + 2
G: -2,5
B: -3,5
Valfruit:
R: - 2
G: - 2
B: + 7
Plums:
R: - 3,5
G: + 0,7
B: + 5
Berry:
R: - 5,5
G: - 5,5
B: + 6
Pear:
R: - 3
G: + 5
B: - 5,5
Calculations are based on x5-15 feeds of one fruit, combined with people's multi feeding with several different fruits. Since they give slightly different numbers I've adjusted the single ones, doing a mixture between mix feeding numbers and single fruit feeding numbers.
Basically if a number is showing 5,5 it means the numbers I got was 5 and 6.
So far it's been pretty accurate, but it's not 100%.
The game does seem to pick the color you are closets to, but also depending on what kind of fruit you fed it.
Test:
From desert yellow:
Fed 10x Valefruit
Expectation - Rose Pink
Result - Rose Pink
From Apple Green:
Fed 10x Plums
Expectation - Celeste Green
Result - Celeste Green
Thx for reading, hope it helps :)
Fed Rose Pink Chocobo:
10x Valefruit
Expectation - Iris Purple
Will share result once it's done :)
Hubby's chicken:
Starting colour: Default desert yellow
First feeding: 5 Mamook pears - received message 'grows new feathers'
Result:

Second feeding: 10 Mamook pears - received message 'grows new feathers'
Should be Lavender Purple, unless Gobbue Grey can proc a Lilac
If you're talking about mine, I made a second page that's mostle one procs.
I'll update colors to show the least number of fruit players have added from a certain color, but until theres a +1 proc per color instead of +8, its only really listed to help narrow down.
First page is now just more of a 'these colors can result in this maybe' and I wouldn't trust it besides trying to make an initial big jump towards a desired color.
Made the first page to try to verify whether or not proc numbers mattered and it's clearly been disproven now, so I'm pretty much done updating that one for now
Dang. It appears that the apple progression is fairly predictable, but pears are random as heck.
Right now, my pear progression is: Desert Yellow --> Lime Green --> Honey Yellow --> Lime Green --> Apple Green
I really like this color, so I'm scared to do anything else to it. Thankfully, a guild mate has started on pears as well, and he'll want a darker green than I, so we'll see how his will turn out.

I'm making what I have so far viewable. You should be able to see the notes on each color.
Chocobo Color Map
I still have a lot of single step data, but I don't have the colors that connect them to the current map.
rolanberry red + pear = grape purple
My results so far on chocobo dyeing (I just count the ones who gave the feather grow message):
Desert Yellow + 2 pears + 1 berry= Lime Green (tried that twice)
Lime Green + 1 apple = Desert Yellow
Lime Green + 1 apple + 13 berries = Ceruleum Blue
Seems that I had the same idea as you Lyrical.
I made this while waiting for the PSN issue: http://imgur.com/a/sx1Sq#0
Site used to make the wheel: Kuler Adobe
Color aim: Apple Green <Varsir
Feed 1: 7 pear - result: Lime green - proc: 1
Feed 2: 6 berries - result: Apple Green!
Color Aim: Lotus Pink <Lak
Feed 1: 3 apples - result: Millicorn Yellow - proc: 1
Feed 2: 5 valfruit - result: Cork Brown - proc: 1
Feed 3: 1 Berry - result: Coral Pink - proc: 1
Feed 4: 11 berries - result: Lilac purple - proc: 1
Feed 5: 1 valfruit - coral pink (experiment stopped and reseted)
Color Aim: Soot Black <Tai
Feed 1: 3 berries, 1 apple, 1 pear - result: Cork Brown - proc: 3
Feed 2: 1 berry, 4 apples, 1 pear - result: Millicorn Yellow - proc: 3
Feed 3: 3 berries - result: Cork brown - proc: 3
Feed 4: 3 berries - result: Coral Pink - proc: 3
Feed 5: 4 pears - result: Aldgoat brown - proc: 3 (no longer following experiment)
Color Aim: Dalamud Red <Nicha
Feed 1: 4 apples - result: Millicorn Yellow - proc: 1
Feed 2: 9 apples - pumpkin orange
Color Aim: Dalamud Red <Luvo
Feed 1: 3 apples
Yes I was talking about yours its ok if you're aware of it ^^
Though I think we can imagine people who told you they fed 25x Apple to get Dalamud red did not wait 6H after each "proc" message. So I think you're being fed misleading data of people thinking all proc message really count ^^'
The map is a great idea, that's what I've been missing most, it'll help us know where to go from other colors than original ^^
Finally was able to get back online after that PSN nonsense. 17 feather procs with berries gave me Raptor Blue.
Will update this with chat log screens later on.
EDIT: Here are the chat logs from the feeding and the results. And an in-game image of Beelzebub.
There's probably something saying effects are diminished after each feeding on the same window ! That would explain a few things. Like first fruit 100% effective, second 95%, etc.
Btw, I got my chocobo to change from Plum Purple(114,75,101) to Gloom Purple(74,62,89) with only ONE berry. That's a lot.
So far I have (from - to - fed) :
Was going for Royal blue from raptor but did stupid things...Code:Desert Yellow 216,175 80 Desert Yellow 216,175,80 Berry 1
Desert Yellow 216,175,80 Desert Yellow 216,175,80 Berry 1
Desert Yellow 216,175,80 Desert Yellow 216,175,80 Berry 1
Desert Yellow 216,175,80 Aldgoat Brown 156,128,85 Berry 6
Aldgoat Brown 156,128,85 Raptor Blue 84,120,188 Berry 16
Raptor Blue 84,120,188 Plum Purple 114,75,101 Apple 5+Pear4
Plum Purple 114,75,101 Gloom Purple 74,62,89 Berry 1
Anyways, I'm beginning to think we're not looking at the good values. Maybe that's not playing with RGB but with Hue, Saturation and Luminosity. What do you think ?
Starting Color: Coral Pink
Stable Conditions: Clean
Chocobo Rank 4
All food fed at the start of the 6 hours:
Feed apple -> plumage will change
Feed apple -> plumage will change
Feed apple -> plumage will change
Feed apple -> plumage will change
Feed apple -> plumage will change
Feed apple -> plumage will change
Feed apple -> plumage will change
Feed apple -> plumage will change
Basically, fed 8 apples and never got a feathers are changing message.
Result: Coral Pink
That's normal if it's playing with RGB values, look at that extract (all FF colors with higher red than coral pink) :
You see that if you increase Red more than coral pink's, you need to also rise Green value a lot to obtain an existing color in FF's world. Apples do not raise Green, so you won't get any change from feeding only Apples to your coral pink Chocobo.Code:Coral Pink 200 101 87
Desert Yellow 216 175 80
Colibri Pink 217 149 198
Millioncorn Yellow 226 152 46
Salmon Pink 226 165 131
Snow White 226 221 205
Rose Pink 228 153 144
Bone White 233 208 154
Cream Yellow 241 212 105
Honey Yellow 250 194 37
Lotus Pink 254 202 244
At least I think ^^
My most amount fed to see feathers so far has been 12. If you go beyond 15-20, I'm thinking you've maxxed out the range and no more of that fruit will create a change.
So what item should I be using to increase green and blue levels?
What color do you want in the table I posted ?
Let's say you want Colibri Pink :
You need to lighten red of 17 points (which means reinforce red, but to the light colors, not dark ones), lighten green of 48 points, and lighten blue of 109 points.Code:Coral Pink 200 101 87
Colibri Pink 217 149 198
So you need I'd recommend a combination of plums (increase GB, reduce R values), and a few pineapples too (increase RB reduce G values), in like 2/3 1/3 proportions respectively.
Though the apples you used might have changed the RGB values from coral pink ....
Going through yours and entering it, thank you!
Forget what I said stabbitystyle, I'm tired, I read the values backwards ^^
Apples increase red color, so diminish R value and increase GB values.
My bad....
Here's the table of close colors reducing Red value (so increasing red color)
Code:Lime Green 166 171 77
Ash Grey 167 162 156
Ice Blue 173 192 202
Sunset Orange 178 85 39
Iris Purple 178 152 183
Ul Brown 178 157 105
Gobbiebag Brown 180 158 130
Coeurl Yellow 182 129 3
Sylph Green 182 182 131
Pumpkin Orange 193 109 31
Cork Brown 197 139 79
Coral Pink 200 101 87
Jayne, can this be added to the Resources on the main page, pretty please?
Chocobo Color Mapping/Planning
Building off my previous post where I was trying to get Turquoise Green I wasted a lot of food discovering that Sky Blue is the stopping point for Doman Plums or that after 32 feeds the RNG hates me and still won't activate a message about growing new feathers.
Raptor Blue (START)
--> Fed 7 Pineapples (1 new feathers)
Seafog Blue
-->2 Pineapple (1 msg)
Corpse Blue
-->4 Pineapple (1 msg)
Celeste Green
-->7 Pear (1 msg)
Apple Green
-->1 Berry (1 msg)
Celeste Green
Celeste Green
-->10 Plum (1 msg)
Sky Blue
-->32 Plum (no message)
WITHDREW FROM STABLE
After feeding 32 plums I abandoned that attempt, withdrawing the chocobo from the stable just to be certain that the food would have no effect on further testing, because it just didn't seem feasible to keep feeding food that may not be doing anything.
I'm still not really sure how to proceed towards my goal, but I think so long as I'm doing it blindly and recording all my steps someone will get some use out of it
So I just stabled my chocobo, which is coral pink, in an attempt to get to plum so I could go to lavender and then colibri. Then I saw Lyrical editing her chart and tried to cancel my feeding.
http://i.imgur.com/ggIqMaV.png
The feather message stopped appearing after I cancelled out the plum with an apple, I think.
It then reappeared on a feeding of valfruit. I did this in the wrong order, because I'm dumb but I think this should prove that the first valfruit before the apple didn't count, even though it got the feathers message.
Now just gotta hope I land on colibri.
