While I find your point to be well beyond valid, this kind of change is going to produces so much lore breaking there will be no way to keep track of it all..

Even if they intend to fix it later it will turn into something like the Localization thread where we the players have to tell them every place that isn't right cause they cant remember.

And that is a prediction. I have faith in both the current team, and the community to stay on top of things. Final Fantasy isn't known for being light in its lore. Although there may be much that needs changing in the text, I'm sure it will be handled thoroughly, especially with clearly dedicated fans of the game's lore such as yourself.

Have some faith. Experience the change once it happens. Then we can all comment on it, give actual feedback, and if all is not well I am sure the dev team will continue to do their utmost to ensure player satisfaction.

Pretty sure the lore right now is pretty meaningless given the game isn't a final product yet. In past interviews they have mentioned revamping classes which to me means their lore will change as well.

If you're referring to the Head of the Class quest for TAN 36, when you repair the Fen-Yll boots you use buffalo leather and marmot fur. There are no other items in the game that use a whole circle of buffalo leather for repairs, in addition to marmot fur.

You're grasping at straws here, just stop.

The story and the cutscenes have absolutely no relevance to "what is going on".

This is what is "going on" for me in the game:

• chatting with friends
• partying with friends
• killing monsters with friends
• meeting new friends
• interacting with people around town
• exploring new areas with friends
• taking on challenges with friends
• creating an optimal character build that will help me kill stuff more easily
• collecting rare items

Player-driven content > dev content

That all has absolutely nothing to do with the current joke of a storyline the game has right now that bears no actual consequence on my day-today activities.

Even if I was concerned about the storyline, incorporating Dark Matter into the game world is going to make a couple Leatherworking quests look a little strange. Oh the horror! This doesn't impact the main storyline or any of the other stories at all.

and also, it is annoying to check a abazaar only to see it filled with repair mats and all 999999's. Maybe we can actually start using bazaar's for what they were intended for and not for holding extra repair mat inventory.

I could see why some people wouldn't like this but having a special magical item in a fantasy world that would act as a catalyst to repair anything back to its former state does fit the mood a bit better to me. Some of the repairs mats were ridiculous to get your hands on at times.

Spetches are still used for crafting gear and parts. For example, Buffalo Leather Spetch is used in 59 different synths, Dodo Leather Spetch is used in 19 different recipes, Toad Leather Spetch is used in 5, and Wolf and Peiste are used in 1 each.

yes, i am referring to that. but also the rank 20 tanner and rank 30. I dont think its grasping at straws to wonder why they would need anything other than dark matter (a mat'l that magically fixes everything). I am talking about destroying the entire story arc for a class.

I've been civil, but I've gotta say this.

You all need to stop acting like drama queens saying that this will destroy the lore/story for crafting quests. If this breaks the game for you, then make sure you hand me some shards before you leave. I'm not going to get hung up over such a small detail. You ARE grasping at straws because those who are complaining about Dark Matter ruining game lore are looking for any small tidbit to advance their position, and it just makes you look sad.

Enough!

This doesn't destroy lore. Data does.

Change =/= Destroy. As others have said the game is essentially still in development and subject to change. I care about the lore and I love what we've been given so far. That being said I'd rather see them improve the game instead of being afraid to change anything because of lore.

This is Yoshida's game now. You can either suck it up and keep playing or leave. I swear just because they asked our opinions and listened to a few suggestions people think they're entitled for the game to be made in their image.

I was actually thinking of putting dark matter in my bazaar for 999999 lol... but I'd still have a couple openings for actual stuff :P

Well, now that acquiring repair materials will be significantly more convenient for crafters, maybe repairees will finally learn how to price competitvely and stop complaining about never receiving any repairs.

why not abolish repairs altogether instead of dumbing something down that was down right bullshit to begin w/.

I wish the grade 5 stuff could repair all the low rank stuff as well. But I suppose I won't complaining about reducing my repair bazaar to 2 stacks instead of all 10 like it currently is.

Prolonged use of the Pure Crystal Aetherites for Teleportation not only weakens an adventurer and requires time to mend but the Pure Energy of the Aetherites has a dramatic effect on all Nature Based Equipment which if left unmended weakens the effectiveness of the equipment even to the point of being useless.

The only material that seems to repair gear damaged through Aetherite usage is the newly discovered Dark Matter. Our top scientists have recently studied these bits of Dark Matter and have concluded that the material is being found all across Ezorea though they are not certain if the Dark Matter is a new substance "growing" for lack of a better term in our realm or an existing substance that has "awakened" for lack of a better term.

In either case (or another not yet postulated) our top researchers will continue to "study the matter" (pun intended) but one theory put forward by one adventurer is thus: "Wherever Light masses in the Universe, Dark Matter is kept at bay, and wherever Dark Matter masses in the Universe, Light can not penetrate. However in areas of the Universe where Birth, Destruction and Rebirth occur, both Light and Dark Matter seem to be at war with one other."

While this prophetic prose has no bearing on scientific data it does appear as though Aetherite Crystals and Dark Matter are 2 very strong elements in our world which we must periodically use to maintain our everyday lives but quite possibly to affect the balance of Eorzea itself.

The only people complaining about this change are those with less than 3 crafts leveled. Try carrying the mats needed to repair every item in the game, then talk to me about this being a nerf.

I like this new idea but at same time feels old method had purpose. But like others said main problem with current (old) system is you have to carry all the damn materials for every damn stuff to repair...

Only if SE found a way to be able to assign a item slot only for mats that doesn't interfere with regular inventory... would of solved all this.. but instead we got this new system which works fine imo... it does help players get rid of all the repair mats.

But... why the hell Dark Matter? LOL
Dark Matter is non-elemental but whats the purpose/reason how does dark matter magically repair damages on your weapon or gear... they better have damn good explanation... since I like stories, quest, history within game.

if we go by any previous FF tittle, including FFXI, every item in the game, be it weapons, armor, regular items has its own lore attached to it, coming from real life history or fantasy. The lore attached to FFXI relic weapons, most items, places, fiends names is incredible

Nice response man and you hit the nail on the hammer. By SE insisting so much on backing Crafting theyre tossing originality out the window. This game so far is nothing but generic mid-evil. Real players want there Byakkos axes, hauteclaires, joyuses, ridills, e-bows, etc not a damn crab bow and a longsword....

You cant expect all of these lore-centric (for the lack of a better term) weapons to show up instantly. We have armor beginning to pop up that is special and/or monster related. It's been less than a year, and that has been spent fixing things. Dont be too impatient waiting on your specialty weapons.

Wondering how much these dark matters are going to cost and how frequently they will drop from gathering.

I apologize, I think you might have misunderstood what I was trying to get across. I meant to say dark matter will have its own lore related reason why it does what it does, be it in game text or what ever like any other item in previous FF games. I do not have any problem with the implementation of dark matter at all.

I dunno about the 'realism' of a universal repair mat, but that being said... BY GOD my inventory can use the extra space!! And it'll be about time that I don't have people asking me to use a 50k+ mat to repair their item for a 10k reward. So many people can't get stuff repaired because crafters can't be arsed to carry all the necessary mats. This solves that problem.

In the other hand, it does make items like fent and spetch nothing but vendor trash. I wonder what they'll do about that.

lol, after reading all of these post, I think the crafters will be playing FFXVI: farmville extreme. eh, i take that back, farmville is at least a bit more complicated....

but the battle related 1.18 looks good... :)

It's all going to depend on how frequent this dark matter drops via leves (battle, local, and gathering), as well as gathering specifically for repair mats (Which I see myself doing unfortunately, gathering is so boring to me). I guess the rank of leve/node is going to regulate which grade of dark matter will drop/be given as a reward. I can see the 1st few weeks grade 5 dark matter going for 50k, maybe this is their new gil sink idea lol

well i hope its gotten for all gathering, because its going to make gathering even less profitable than before, all of the repair items were acting as a constant demand for crafting and gathering, but now, well. if no one needs anything from a craft to repair stuff, the demand will drop drastically for many materials.

probably will give no sp for repairs now, since it used to be delvel based, and it is 100% chance, and faster than crafting.

Its not a horiible idea from a battler who repairs his own stuff standpoint, but from an overall balance of cr5afting gathering and synthesis standpoint, its pretty much going to mess with a ton of balancing. class to class, and exping and profit.

and lowering npc price, means even while they make it supposedly more likely someone will be able to repair your stuff, they have almost to reason too attempt it since you will pay crap, and they will probably get no sp.

Did someone miss the memo?

Dark matter can be obtained from vendor NPCs, as guildleve rewards, and through gathering.

Who knows what the price is going to be from the vendor. So we will have a price ceiling and then have options to get dark matter. So it should be relatively cheap and easy to get repairs.

Sheesh, sorry, I didn't mean for you to take it so badly. I did make a lot of posts of my own in the beginning and throughout this thread, and it's kinda hard to be countering the same old arguments over and over again.

Less 'realistic' but more fantasy, and better for inventories. now I'll only need a max of 5 slots in my inventory for repair mats ^^. No need to keep a bunch of mats pre-made now unless I'm going to make some gear out of them.

It's good in my opinion, as it's not always easy to find materials, and sometimes, you have to invest lot of time searching at market and it's bad for those you live of craft. And we will just carry one kind of item to repair all our equips. That's good news for me.
