Are people recognizing ARR?

For players open beta will be a time to shine on the internet - till then I'd more focus on getting your friends psyched on trailers.

SE isnt putting out enough content for people on the internet to bite on. For example you post a few videos on your fan blog and then people see it go oh wow and then watch some not so oh wow alpha trailers.. It wont be as powerful of an effect as if there was more content out there to absorb (whether from SE or open beta fan stuff). While with your friends you have a lot more control and ability to explain contents and questions that arise; although, your fan blog could be just your friends.. lol

I was thinking that ARR will probably come out this summer so that means SE can show off to many people at E3. It's a good thing because most of them will know when is release date so they don't have to be mad and waiting. :)

i dont think its possible to change the name, cause you can play any FF game from 1 up to now, XIV version wouldent exist then ,well have a "well.. wheres #14?" type situation

it will come when phase4 ends. which in worst case scenario is june:ish. but i dont think there will be a worst case scenario, so it will come earlier.
they don't really need to appear on E3, i'm sure various magazines are keeping an eye out, and will make reviews. And SE will start marketing when OB is nearing its end.

hmm you're right.

maybe it would have been better to call it XIV-2 then, since people are used already to stand-alone spinoffs like X-2 and XIII-2

So a game that can be seen by uninformed parties as a mere "giant patch" to a failed, badly received, badly reviewed and overall hated entry on a series that's been losing some of it's popularity due to some of it's recent entries and that's not (yet) being activelly advertised is not on any top hype lists?

Color me surprised.

Even before Alpha i read an article in a game magazine, where they talked about remake of FF14.
They were quite excited about it; So whatever opinions uninformed parties have doesn't matter. Those that care will notice ARR arrived and get informed, reading good reviews and decide to give it a try.
People should be aware already that over hyped games usually fail, and most other MMOs not from big companies fail too.
Tera wasn't even over hyped, and failed anyways, cause lack of content; that's what most random games lack...there's no lack of content in FFXIV. Anyone interested in FF in general will wanna try out ARR, to see if it's nice now; And since they might not have very high expectations to begin with, they'll be pleasantly surprised, and keep playing...unless they are already busy with some other game they like; in which case it doesn't really matter how much SE promotes the game.

I'm always seeing FF XIV on gaming news sites whenever there is any new information on the game and most treat it as a brand new game. Are people recognizing ARR? Yes.

SE has never been known for the most impressive marketing, or trailers. But the CG Yoshi-P had made for ARR has diffidently raised the bar for SE. I'm sure the main reason there hasn't been a load of epic dev walkthroughs or ingame trailers is because the game is still not ready for scrutiny. The lack of refined animations probably being the biggest glaring hole. When it is ready, which I'm sure will be around the time of Open Beta, I hope SE steps up their marketing campaign, not just more then it is now but better then it has been for past entries.

As for right now there are tens of thousands of views on unofficial channels showing off ARR with lots of positive comments, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of views on the official channel. I think it's on the right track for this point in time.

They should do it without any Final Fantasy logos then people would be like "wtf is that game!? I need to know moar!" I also think showing the trailer in the cinemas would be amazing! those trailers always make me want to see/play whatever is being shown.
