FFXIV is becoming a grind fest with little enjoyment.

So besides Diadem we also lost another major content in 3.1 know as Vermilion, which bored a lot of players to death with its tutorial and lack of "action". Since Diadem and Vermilion failed in capturing players with what it was intended to do we are left with only dailies. raiding, and dungeons which are shrunk to one 24 man dungeon, one primal, and two 5 man dungeons. We just lost pretty much 70% of 3.1 due to failed gambles that Square took. That is why I believe the complaints are high for "lack of content" during this patch then before. We have the content, but it is lack luster and boring for us to do it. Who wants to go to Diadem and grind for mats forever? Who wants to do vermilion for MGP and pets?

Diadem has of potential to be more and I hope that they'd improve upon it.

As of now it's just a zerg fest of monsters and players

Isn't the only way to fix the player base zerging content is to not make them interact at all? I mean the alternative is to just have an instanced area with just your party. Players just chose the most efficient way (albeit boring) way of doing things, as you see with hunts. But reducing the amount of players in an instance to a single party kind of makes it too similar to other stuff we have (like dungeons).

I'm curious what it was in 2.x that people found different. To me the only real difference content wise in Heavensward is in the setting (Ishgard and Alpine lands) and that SE has tried new ideas that haven't panned out. Apart from that I don't see a lot of difference. It is actually ironic but their attempts to try new things have probably what have caused much of the problems people currently have with a sense of there being nothing to do. Grind wise it feels very much the same.

Also to play devil's advocate here but when discussing the lifespan of content, whenever old content is given some relevance I feel I can say with around a 99% accuracy you will have someone post about how SE are failing it's players cause they have resorted to reusing old content rather than delivering new content. People even complained about having to do old content for the new relic.

A lot of players have been looking in to ways to suggest to Yoshi on improving Diadem by pitching hunts, fates, treasure maps, gathering evetns, and weather events with decent to high reward to encourage adventuring.

Yoshi P. has also ackowledge the trouble with Diadem and will be working on it for 3.2 and future patches.

The best way to fix zerging is to make any kind of zerging behaviour less rewarding. Right now everyone just camps an island and kills mobs over and over and over until they find tracks. Change the mechanics to encourage players to explore and do more than just mindlessly killing stuff and you would stop players zerging it.

If content can be zerged then it was badly designed in the first place.

Think about it for a second. How is supposed to react the average player when it sees the best rewards, the best gear, being given for only being semi-AFK clicking buttons while watching netflix. Hunt meets Fates (Diadem) was released in such a poor state just for the sake of keeping people subscribed, as long as they were farming, there was a slight chance that they would get a better piece of gear than the ones that challenged the most difficult content in game.

That's SE's fault absolutely. You can't say it's the players fault when the designers of the content released in that way. What they were expecting people would do? There's nothing else to do in diadem, or you kill mobs, or you gather things. There's no exploration, you aren't required to explore things, find treasures, kill rare mobs (and i don't mean rare mobs that need to be spawned by killing thousands of mobs), there's no collaboration between gatherers and disciplines of war/magic. Diadem is a completely failure, but it's not the playerbase fault. Playerbase played Diadem as they thought it was intended, getting gear by zerging mobs. If the rewards had came from exploration, gathering, cooperation, optional objectives, maybe it wouldn't have been such a failure like it is right now.

Make it so only one group can take on one monster at a time and you cannot heal or help that group at all.

Don't see how that is so hard. Immediately all Zerging for Open World is dead.

They absolutely have to add the boat ride back in, if only for Fishing. Heck, we even have Sky Fishing, which could justify proper Airship rides.

I'm really not sure why they made the boat instant, they said it was because people don't like to wait (lol?), but isn't that what teleports are for? If I don't want to wait, I'll teleport. If I want to relax I'll ride the damn thing and enjoy the sight/music. It's literally just a nice option to have, that doesn't really negatively impact anyone. That first Airship ride can still be entirely instant and cutscene based, although that really misses the point of such a ride. Getting on an Airship for the first time in XI was one of the lasting memories I have of that game... Seeing the world like that really instilled a sense of wonder in the world they had created, a shame XIVs team doesn't seem to see something like that as worth doing...

None of that is an issue. Crafted items? Why would they matter? Diadem involves Gathering, not crafting. Open world lottery NMs are pretty much what I was suggesting against. And the difficulty of enemies is something easily scaled, in fact I even mentioned that Diadem enemies have a stupid amount of HP, which just makes them bullet sponges more than anything remotely fun. When I say put a claim system in Diadem, I mean it solely to prevent the stupid mass gatherings which ruin it and Hunts, not to screw certain groups over. The entire thing works like a long term objective in the instance, for your group; Work on obtaining pop items and popping NMs. They can completely cut out stupid things like meaningless competition, Gil requirements, and stupid difficulty.

You'd effectively go into Diadem, and rather than "What do we zerg with other parties?", you'd have "What NM path do we want to go down?", and then you'd work down that path for the time limit, with Gathering actually benefiting the group in various ways, rather than being seen as nothing more than leeches... You know, you'd have an actual objective.

Bluntly speaking, this type of gameplay is called depth, and depth is something XIV is wholeheartedly lacking. I moved on from XI because I'd had enough of the combat and ridiculous grind (what I want from XI really hasn't been in XI since Abyssea moved in at least), those things are not requirements for content with depth, the only thing required there is for the developers to stop acting like it's playerbase is five. Content in this game amounts to Simon Says, it's entirely reactionary. At no point in any content do you really need to think, not beyond "Boss says X, what do I have to do for that again?", is it too much to ask to have one or two pieces of content that isn't like that? You'd think an MMO would want to appeal to a larger market of players by offering a wealth of different types of content...

That is actually my point. Those who could, have farmed the crap out of it, then thanks to their whining SE nerfs the rewards,can't have filthy casuals give a 1 in 10,000 chance of obtaining something truly good after all. So yes it's quiet now because the group that farmed it and whined has got bored and moved on, spoiling it for everyone else in the process.
