I could see sacred soil and the AST bubble when I was still playing on a PS3 with effects turned off. Flame arrow, shadowflare, and some of the tank AoE's showed too.

There are three possible settings for effects:
1. turn everything on
2. turn everything off
3. turn everything off except some AOEs.
The third setting still shows stuff such as healer's bubbles, AOEs like Shadowflare or Doton, and Ley Lines. The latter makes me think of a Void Ark run with a total of ten BLMs, when we fought Echidna and everyone used their Ley Lines, Echidna cast some AOE and we all had to dodge. After that, nobody could find their own Ley Lines anymore because they were too many :D
This may be a first, even for Duty Finder quality. Friends and I party up for roulettes and get Ravana Hard. The off-tank DCs, but we go anyway, thinking Ravana will be cake. NOPE. No one does any of the mechanics, so we get three/four swords. Now that wouldn't be so much of an issue... if people were properly geared. They were not. We wipe and friend explains all the mechanics. No big deal... except no one does them, again. At this point one of my friend noticed the Scholar hasn't summoned their Faerie, and doesn't ever summon it once. I inspect his gear and see the Friendship Circuit and Brand New Ring alongside ilvl 80-90 gear. When I call him out on it, he proceeds to claim he's "a level 60 Paladin and DPS is the problem" since we still didn't have an off-tank.
DPS is the problem... for a Scholar. ;-;
Like, why play Scholar if you don't use your pet? That's the whole point!
I am new to dungeons in this game. I have to say that most of my experiences have been great. Anytime there has been a wipe, someone has spoken up if we are missing some mechanics. A few times I know it was my fault (heals), but everyone has been really kind, even if there is a wipe. I've played a lot of MMOs and this is a nice change. I've gotten some great feedback for my class instead of just rude comments like L2P.
reminds me of the time I turned off all my own effects as blm (in my defence was on the advice of someone in my static lol) and couldn't even see my own leylines, just had to try and remember where it was and watch my buffs to see if I had the speed up to know if I was standing in it, its completely invisible lol
Maybe. But I think you're underestimating just how overgeared you are. Your Cure II hits for 9k+ easy, your Medica II ticks at 800+ and Regen I don't even know how much (as it's skewed on a WAR). My ast's Benefic II only does somewhere around 7k, Aspected Helios ticks at 470, Aspected Benefic 1500... Basically, I need to cast a lot more spells to get the same amount of healing. Not surprising you'd have a lot more downtime than I.
Only if they're competing for MT. It's beneficial if the tank can't handle a single pull of three mobs and you use the titan-egi to hold the other two. We're not talking about -good- tanks or dps. We're talking about other roles having to fill in for their deficiencies.
Healer DPS isn't making up for someone else's poor play. It's just playing your class well. Same with tanks. I don't think "My DPS doesn't matter here" when I'm tanking, I play the class to the best of my ability. Slacking off because someone else has it covered doesn't make sense.
