Oh dear this, Happens.Every.God.Damn.Time. on my bard. "Oh what's this, a flame circle?! Must be this boss ultimate ability, let's move! (can't be that bard flaming arrow for sure)" Not that the DPS from it is huge...but it helps.
Been levelling my Machinist lately and queue for Stone Vigil after hitting 41. Got paired up with a Dark Night & White Mage who were levelling as well + a Ninja with crown.
Dungeon starts with the tank stating "Oh god, my gear" and that we might have to abandon this. I first just assumed that she forgot to repair it beforehand, but once I actually checked it... Let's just say that having full strength accessories was the lesser problem. Not a single piece of gear was actually for tanking, and there was even a DoM hat. Also as a bonus the healer was a bit undergeared as well.
We decided to push on anyway, and after wiping ~3 times or so in the first big room we found a rhythm of pulling away the mobs from the patrolling Avis to avoid being overwhelmed. We actually managed to make our way to the final boss pretty well, other than 2 close calls were the healer went OOM during trash pulls. We even did kind of a full run to get all the chests, which dropped a new pink staff for the healer as well as pants, belt & helmet for our tank.
Now for the last boss. I don't really know what I and the healer accidentally got hit by, but we were suddenly down to 10% health or so. Healer dies with me shortly after, and we wipe around 8% despite LB 2.
Second try goes better, as we work the boss down hoping to get the LB back fast enough. We almost have the boss down, when he takes off into the sky again at 1%... Only to die a few seconds later mid air from the DOT's on him.
Seeing that alone made that whole run worth it
It actually can happen because many people have party member effects turned off, and they just don't see that ground aoe from you. Turning effects off sometimes is necessary, because it makes easier to do some mechanics. I've turned off effects in t8 to better see that white tether, and keep them turned off since then because it makes game less flashy.
While I agree with this statement, I do think you will be fine setting the graphics to the middle setting for party members. This keeps all the flashy showy effects (Holy, Gravity, Fire IV, ect) off while keeping ones like Burning Arrow, Asylum, Shadow Flare, ect on. I personally have it set for full animations for myself, middle setting for PT members, and off for everyone else.
One time I did my leveling roulette, and I got copperbell mines. I ended up getting a tank with almost no gear who didn't even have any idea what tanking even was, and a DPS that just sorta did their own thing and walked through the dungeon on their own ignoring all the enemies and the whole party in general. Eventually the healer and I decided we weren't getting anywhere and decided that we would just go on our own with me sleeping all the mobs as a BLM and just duo the rest of the dungeon.
I also ended up saving a video of it on my PS4 for a few months and decided to upload it to youtube. its just the path to the end and the final boss, but you can get the image of just how much of a trainwreck it was.

I had a healer a couple of days ago that would cast assiez after all mobs had died, to heal everyone to full becore the next pull, even if it was the last group before a boss and we were already full.
It wasn't game breaking, it was just odd, to do nothing but waste a WHMs best spell.
Ran levelling roulette today together with two friends, trying to get my DRG up to 45... We got a first-timer GLA in tam-tara. With us other three having job stones equipped (and thus getting our stats boosted slightly) and being synched, he had little chance of keeping aggro. He was also on controller, I assume, since he said nothing and kept walking (not running) at times, something that's a lot easier on controller than on keyboard.
Honestly, Heavy Thrust and then two or three Impulse Drives, and I'd be at orange. Me and the bard kept stealing aggro. Our healer didn't even dare to dps, since they already stole aggro at least once per mob group through the bare-necessity healing they did. We tried to give advice on using more Flash (especially with more than one mob), and apologized for making his job impossible. He did start to use a couple of more Flashes per fight, but it still wasn't enough to help him keep aggro.
I felt so sorry for that newbie tank, since they were clearly new to the game. Before we left, I told them not to feel bad, since tanking can be really tricky before level 26. (Rage of Halone does a lot when it comes to tanking, and always made me jealous that as a marauder you not only have to wait till 30, but you have to do your lvl 30 quest as well ;_; Buuuut on the other hand we get tank stance at 30, and paladins have to wait till 40, so I guess it... evens out?)
Had two that were pretty similar today and one that was horrible. Logged in this morning, needed to do my daily roulettes. Popped into Mentor queue and got slammed facefirst into Urth's Font trial. I haven't done Urth's Font since I cleared it once the week it was released, and I'd never tanked it. I did remember the fight well enough, so I didn't have any problems tanking as DRK. The big problem came about when both healers kept eating AoE stripes and couldn't heal fast enough with Sennegal hitting for 2-6k, depending on which CD I had up at the time. Wiped 8 times, then abandoned with 10 minutes left on the clock.
Popped mentor queue again, got an in progress Aurum Vale. No biggie, AV sucks, oh well. Figured it was one of those things where the tank pops, sees it's AV, and runs away like a scared little child. Turns out it was apparently a wipe issue, as the entire first room was cleared but the tank ragequit during the first boss. Not an issue, I've got this. Party set up was myself as DRK, a MCH, sprout MNK and sprout WHM. Wipe the first was because the WHM didn't know to eat fruit at 2 stacks, despite me explaining the boss. Wipe number 2 was because the WHM ate ALL the fruit, eating it as soon as he got 1 stack of Gold Lung. Third time, clear. I noticed that the WHM was having an issue healing, but wasn't in Cleric. Checked gear, left side all up to date...right side was just...it made no sense. A DEX necklace, INT earrings, Gathering bracelets, the level 1 Gridanian Ring, and the Brand New Ring. Did well on the second boss, got a new ring for the whm, but died to trash because the WHM kept running in and aggroing everything. Surprisingly, we didn't die to the last boss.
Got Antitower on expert roulette with a whm in a hurry. Ran ahead without casting protect or ss into the mobs, aggro'd. I chalked it up as an oops moment, no biggie. He does it again on the next set. And on the third set, I figured he could tank a little before I saved him. I grab all the mobs when he's at about 10% HP, hoping he learned a lesson. He didn't pull the Frog, but did decide to run ahead and aggro the spriggans/fire elementals/golems. I let him tank the group of Vikings and Magi he ran ahead to aggro until he died. He got the hint afterwards and we ended up finishing the last boss without an issue.
continuing on from my Midas story yesterday, I had a really good A7 run. We managed to kill the boss before the 2nd heart cycle, which surprised me since I've always had 2 heart cycles before.
Everyone complemented each other on a job well done, got 2 commends out of it for excellent Foe Requiem management. Rolled a 1 on the crank I needed though >.<
Yesterday, I did a Wonderer Palace HM to get the TT card.
Composition of the group : A fresh DRK (level 51) and 2 SMN (level 53 and 56).
I'm level 60 SCH. Tank tells us it's her first time. DD don't say a word.
First 2 packs : I take the aggro (with my dots ::) on 2 mobs ... ok
I check tank's gear : he wears 2 beautiful rings, first one is DOL, second one is DOW !
So I tell her that the rings she wears is not for tank, and asks if she can't wear others, even if there are lower levels. Well she changes and wears beautiful level 35.
First boss : adds are not killed : wipe
I tell them they must kill adds, but second wipe ...
Tank tells us she tries her best but it's not her fault, idk what DD were doing.
Third time, we reach 12 stacks (never seen that before), I'm more amused than angry x) And they really tried to kill them. I couldn't DPS, i had to heal with so many stacks ^^
Finally one DD leaves, and my nightmare is over !
Leveling roulette on AST, got Gubal Library with a DRK who never used CDs. Ever. They were also slightly undergeared and struggled holding aggro against bard, dragoon and me, forcing me to heal so much that for the first time since I play AST I was running oom without spamming Gravity or dying. Specially the first boss was a pain, DPS was kinda low and everyone kept eating AOEs so I couldn't do much more than applying one or two dots to help with DPS, yay. Shortly after the second boss the DRK hit level 60, we all congratulated them and they reacted with a quit. That's something that always happens to me whenever I run any dungeon past Haukke on healer: I somehow loose the tank, be it because of a DC, kick or ragequit - and vice versa, whenever I tank anything past Haukke, I loose the healer. A friend of mine calls it a curse and recommends a bath in holy water to me... whatever, I got a friend to tank the last bit for us, and yay, he made me run oom via spamming Gravity <3
In Thousand Maws of Toto Rak at about 4 AM.
I play on a Japan data center, and began the dungeon with the typical よろしくお願いします。
No response meant everyone was probably an English speaker. Checked the party list. Yup. That's fine though.
So we got about halfway through without anyone saying a word. But everything is going relatively smoothly. Until the tank suddenly disconnects. A DPS (apparently a new player but without the new player symbol) gets really angry and suggests kicking him and getting a new tank. Not even 10 seconds had passed since he DCed.
I said "Let's wait". (Didn't want to wait for a new tank at 4 AM) And the DPS guy gets SO excited I can speak English. So he starts talking about Japan and all these touristy places that I've never been to. Then he tries to speak in Japanese to me using only romaji and making so many mistakes, I couldn't understand what he was trying to say. I'm usually pretty patient, but it was constant.
After a few minutes, the tank returns and this DPS guy gets really angry at him for disconnecting. Telling him how long we had to wait, as if the tank purposefully DCed or something.
For the rest of the dungeon, this DPS guy kept dissing the tank for every little thing under the sun. At the same time, the DPS guy is either only doing auto attack or just standing there so he can talk to me about Japan and the time he traveled here and whatever. (And I am more or less ignoring him, because you know, mobs.)
At the final boss, no one attacks the tail and the entire ground gets covered in poison. I even told them to attack the tail AND marked it, but DPS guy was just auto attacking and chatting away. The other DPS was trying to take down adds.
We finished the fight by the skin of our teeth with no deaths, but I immediately left because I couldn't stand DPS guy's incessant chatter.
so do antitower last night, mobs are taking a little long to kill it seems (im on blm). Just seems like im the only one doing any dmg, takes doing relatively big pulls so i can unload as much aoe out as possible. After the first boss i check my co dps, a nin left side i180 and down, right side i200+ and to top it off......................level 59 weapon.
Ah so i am the one doing all the dps in here then....
Got Copperbell Mines on a roulette.
Immediately notice the BLM is only using Blizzard. But he has no beginner icon, so I check his levels. He also has a level 60 White Mage.
No one else in the group notices the Blizzards, so I stop them to explain how to BLM to him. He was very "Is that how it works? I had no idea", nonchalantly.
So he proceeded by casting Thunder...only...repeatedly.
After more explaining and a lot of trial and error, he finally gets the hang of it! And we continue.
But DPS is still very low. He then tells me ALL of his gear is broken. ("I was going to repair it but I forgot!").
He then says "Carry me, White Mage"! So we get to the end, he is just standing around, chatting. Turns out he is leveling BLM just now to get Swiftcast. I couldn't believe he had a level 60 WHM without leveling Black Mage or Arcanist at all.
In the end he left without giving me a commendation for taking the time to teach him how to play. That really hurt.
I need to take a moment here to applaud ASTs who manage to run out of MP in Stone Vigil, while not even DPSing. Truly, that takes a special kind of talent. Especially considering that I have no MP issues even when I have to spam Benefic II in Lightspeed to keep a tank alive in that dungeon.
This example of spectacular healing came from one I met in Stone Vigil, while I was playing NIN. Now, admittedly, I died to the first boss, got ressed (without Swiftcast, so the poor PLD had to struggle with no heals for 8+ seconds), then promptly died again due to poor timing with AoEs. I didn't get another ress because the AST had, by this point, somehow run out of MP. And no matter how long that fight dragged on, I don't remember seeing them ever pop Luminiferous Aether. Nor were they DPSing.
I'm kind of confused as to how they managed to run out of MP, but fine, the DRG and PLD killed the boss on their own just as well. As we continue, I notice this AST never ever seems to use Royal Road, even when they keep drawing Spire, and spams Stoneskin in the middle of fights. In Stone Vigil. On a tank that has 2.9k HP. And on DPS who have 1.9k and 2.2k or so HP. Which answers my question about their MP management neatly.
And I wouldn't have said anything, except after the 2nd boss, in which nobody died, and both myself and the DRG even managed to dodge all the tornadoes, this AST starts bragging about what a good healer they are. When I point out that healing this party is not the most difficult of tasks I have ever seen (the PLD was again rather poorly-equipped on accessories, with a magic necklace and STR bracelet, but otherwise they were doing fine), they got pissy at me and asked why I kept using Hide. The answer to that would be so I can use Sneak Attack, and considering I can still grab the #2 spot for aggro over the DRG, who's managing his debuffs and rotation quite well, I don't see a problem with this.
So in the end, we get to Isgebind, and kill him with no issues... except the AST's run out of MP by the end, still no Luminiferous Aether, not even once, and spamming Stoneskin while not DPSing one bit. At the end, they promptly call me a "shytty ninja" and leave, without waiting for the chance to roll on the treasure chest item.
Which, coincidentally, was a green AST weapon. Winning that weapon and desynthesizing it is a sweet moment for me.
But, moving on to dumbass healers in general, I recently had to run Aurum Vale as BLM for my relic weapon. Now, I understand that this may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe that using Aurum Vale for leveling, especially when you're underequipped for the dungeon, is a terrible idea. Meanwhile, I'm level 60 on my BLM, so I'm not getting any EXP for it, so whatever. I landed in an in-progress Aurum Vale that hasn't gone past the first room, and it seems that the party was wiped after too many mobs were pulled. The healer, a SCH this time, is one of the people who use Aurum Vale to level to 50. Considering the last healer I ran into who was using Aurum Vale to level, I'm already apprehensive, but hey, at least I'm not tanking. So we killed the first boss fine, got to the first Goldvine, and I kill the fruits with 1 AoE, because I like seeing Fire II be useful for once and it's fun to obliterate things
SCH, of course, then starts bitching at me for not letting the seedlings germinate. As we continue, I suggest that if they want EXP that bad, maybe they should go grind FATEs instead of spamming Aurum Vale runs and demanding that other people do exactly as they say, for their own personal gain. They respond by saying that they hate FATEs after having to grind all the atmas for their relic on their other character. So the alternative is to queue for Aurum Vale and make demands of strangers' time, I see. Keep in mind that other than the fruits, the party has been killing everything else in the dungeon. It's not like the SCH is getting no EXP at all.
So after the second boss, at the second set of fruits, I do the same thing, kill them all before the seedlings spawn, because I'm sick of this SCH's attitude and yeah, I'm petty. Again, they start bitching at me, and when I point out that I'm not affected by the EXP gains: "doesn't mean you deprive others of it".
LOL, really? Running through this entire dungeon, killing everything that isn't the seedlings is "depriving others" of EXP? It's sad, really. If they could've been bothered to be even slightly polite about it, I wouldn't have minded taking the few extra minutes to let the seedlings spawn and kill the fruit for them, but no, instead they act like they're entitled to the rest of the party's time. No way in hell. Considering the other DPS and tank both gave me their comms at the end, I'd say they agreed with me.
I que for 60.
I get ARF.
If no bonus in sight;
I Leave.
No exceptions.
I guess it's because
- the dungeon itself gives the least tomes of the 60 roulette ones
- has no loot (other than the small change to get the orchestrion scroll)
- feels rather long for some people
But yeah, it's pretty bad behaviour. Roulette is roulette, deal with what you get or use one of the other methods to get those tomes
(I kinda like that dungeon, and if only for the change to put a few arrows into Lahabrea's stupid face again)
Actually, I did NOT point out his DPS was low. I never said that.
He voluntarily offered the information that his gear was all broken and apologized. But then asked me to "carry him" and just stood around chatting most of the time.
I only offered to teach him how to cast spells correctly as a black mage because he was only using Blizzard at the beginning.
I'm the jerk that would have hit the vote dismiss button. I have no problems helping new people or those who want to learn (in fact I kind of enjoy it), but I have no tolerance for people who want to benefit off the work of others.
I wish you didn't have to put up with what you did. :(
So uh...a bunch of us decided to DF A8 this morning, and this is just a snippet of it, but:
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...psbo0enyas.png
We waited a while for the guy, then one of the DPS got a pull macro going, and everyone else readychecked and pulled--
Never had to wait for something like that before.
(needless to say, he was not happy)
Got an awesome M4 run a few hours ago with my SMN fc member. I solo tank onslaughter as PLD and dps was perfect :D then Brute Justice came everything were smooth except OT was busy dps and forgot to help me soaking Double Rocket Punch xD first J-kick both healers died, boss at 50%. SMN trying to raise healer, while I had to deal with tank buster xD never in my life do I feel so alive tanking it straight on bursting cooldowns with SMN casting eye for an eye from time to time and every time tank buster is up I was like" Hello darkness,my old friend" and spamming Clemency afterward until healer LB3 and saved the raid. Another on stacking where a healer and a dps were down so one dps got the mark, sacrifice himself for the party and we cleared in 1 try.
Had an interesting run of Shiva HM this morning as offtank. Was doing really well...until the MT sees sword form and turns her into the group - we lost 1 healer and 3 dps to that. As soon as I saw that, I comment: "don't split that, this isn't ex" - the MT says something like "oh, that's right, sorry". The fight continues, and we don't manage to down the adds in time. We wipe shortly after her ult (both of us tanks and one of the DPS actually survived it). Someone mentioned that we can't ignore adds...I mention that having 2 dps dead didn't help (one got rezzed). Next pull was a very quick, clean kill. :)
Later, did Garuda HM with a DRK who turned Grit on as soon as he entered, so I pop SwO. He promptly asks who's MT'ing...and one of the DPS pulls. He says something like "ok, me I guess" and gets aggro quickly enough. I notice DPS is good enough for it, so I mark Garuda as "1". The DPS ignore that, so the fight goes a bit longer than it should've, but was otherwise a very clean kill as well. :)
Good job to both teams. :)

Short story. In my quest for birds, I did a few Rav Ex and Bis Ex. A couple had newbies; one Bis Ex in particular had two that spoke up about being new (another was as well). The happy thing is that they read what I was typing in chat and actually reacted. We wiped the first time because I wasn't specific and told the WHM to Cure 3 spam on the 3rd back part, and didn't tell them to stay off. Second and third times were because I goofed on tank swapping and my co-tank got thrown up in the air during another tank swap. 4th time, the healer who cleared left, and we got a replacement pretty quickly.
We clear the next try. No bird mount (I've been going dry for the past two days :(), but it was very rewarding to have almost half the team be new and get them their clear!
Similar things happened with Rav Ex. Most would leave after a few wipes, but I find it very awesome and feel-goody. (Also thanks 4 comms)
Did Syrcus Tower for my drop last week...for the first time in about a bajillion years
and
(I think this was ST, i did all of them back to back)
I got both song sheets at the end. I told my friend this and she wanted to kill me since apparently she had been farming them since they came out or something.
Sorry, I did not imply that you pointed it out.
I was making a sarcastic remark about this community in that everyone is so afraid of these toxic elitists who point out when people do poor DPS, meanwhile you get idiots like the person you were paired with.
In other words, I would rather have someone in the party say, "Sorry Kaurie, your DPS is too low" and proceed to kick me, than have someone say, "Is that how it works? I had no idea" about job basics followed by, "Carry me, White Mage".
