Another odd thing if they made Viera have normal "flat feet" when not in their specific shoes, is that it would mean their 'real' height and the shape of their legs would change by that much when wearing other shoes. Changing gear switches out sections of the body model, and doesn't (as far as I'm aware) adjust the overall height of the model. Legs get longer or shorter depending on the shape of the shoes, which is maybe okay with low-heeled shoes but I think it would be too noticable for Viera's super-high ones.
Whether it's G'raha or not, I think it has to be a Miqo'te character, and those are definitely the eye marks. It doesn't make sense for how a shadow would be shaped across the face there.
Fenral posted a higher-res comparison of the face marks here when we were discussing this on the Lore forum.
Agree on this way too much overreaction maybe is related with histrionic personality disorder the attention-seeking emotions and the dramatic cluster around the subject caused unnecessarily.
SE made gender locked race before and due to the requests did the second gender really doubt they wont add both genders to each race.
Adding the fact that two of the female viera faces have already ambiguous gender features.
All hope for a male Viera went away, when we saw the interview with Yoshida where he dismissed the male Viera design for being weird, because he found it to cute, beautiful and with a female Viera only trailer. I think the leaks are correct. In 18 days we will find the truth, as for me, I am expecting to be disappointed.
Lets hope the male exclusive race looks very good.
This
The only restriction they had with designing male viera over this new race is they needed bunny ears everything else full freedom.
If they go through with this i will be as vocal as much as possible to get both genders for both races, i won't care if they are sick of the questions i won't just accept we're working on it because 3yrs for a bunny suit for males that is 3yrs for 1 single outfit on half the character models a race is way too much work to just be gradually worked on it requires way more of the dev team to do it would have to have hard deadlines to make happen. Finally i would vote with my wallet and ShB will be the 1st expansion i won't get CE with and would finally halt my sub if i feel unsatisfied.
I really wonder what aspect of Japanese culture makes the male devs not want to design bunny male anything. Like it took them that long because I guess it was hard to get the devs to want to jump on it. I'm assuming if there's no male Viera it would have to be the same cultural idea.
True, I never did get into the plot of 12, but I don't recall the Viera being anything other than window dressing and to give the game some fetish fodder with the whole thing with the no men and them falling devotedly in love with men (Fran and Mydia), we don't see to see much else from them they barly interact with the story and the village felt completely tacked in.
I always assumed they were popular for that reason, I never saw any other but maybe that's why I despise them so much.
I always thought of Fran (the main example of Viera to me as a child) as the strongest character in the story, mostly because of the Viera being women only (visibly) plus the scene where she goes berserk due to the mist. Also she always seemed to be the knowledgeable character in the story, giving the background of different locations as you traveled. The Eruyt Village part of the story was interesting to me because of the isolationism as well as being able to communicate with the wood and how leaving it left Fran kind of disconnected from the rest of the Viera.
That's why the Viera (Fran) was always so popular in my view, anyway.
Looking like genderlocked is pretty much confirmed.
I hope they're ready for a lot of booing in the next FanFest
Fran's relationship with Balthier is really subdued and for most of the game it seems like nothing but a friendly professional one (with special fist bump, even), and she's a much stronger character than that. Often times acting as an exposition character by telling the (suppossed) nature of Espers, the effects of the Mist and, of course, Golmore. Viera are stoic and have their own little side-stories about not understanding the larger world of Ivalice because of their isolationism, and the problems that come with their rigid society ("Viera who have forsaken the Wood are Viera no longer" and the Vorpal Bunny hunt mark, for example, and before someone gets here, I know the story outright says they're content with it, nor do the player characters feel like they have to change it ;p). Saying "falling in love devotedly with men" is ignoring most of their characterization.
As a little girl, Fran was always my favorite character because of these exact reasons. She was smart, strong, calm, and beautiful. Fran was there to give the rest of the younger characters some knowledge when needed or to guide them to where they needed to go since she was more perceptive than the rest of the team. She had a subtle and tragic backstory where she longed not only for the Wood and her sisters, but also to explore the world with Balthier.
I exclusively only controlled her and Ashe, with many 'rees' when had to play someone else.
To reduce Viera to nothing more than fetish fodder because they are a society of women who wear more revealing clothes is disingenuous imo.
As for the male Viera in XII, they were never needed so it never came off as strange. In an MMO setting, where any race can be called by Hydaelyn to be her champion, it would be incredibly odd for the male half of a race to be excluded from this. Does Hydaelyn think bunny men are weird too? There would flat out be no good reason SE could come up with in lore besides absolute genocide PRIOR to the beginning of the game (which we know it's not true or else the Wandering Dramaturge would have said something) to exclude the player character from being a male Viera considering in canon it could be the only male Viera that would leave.
I'm sure the reception of any sort of male Viera would be taken better than announcing "Hey, we're giving you guys a genderlocked race again." That's not going to fly very well no matter how they spin it. They can offer people something else, but it isn't going to distract people from their crushed expectations.
I mean yeah, but at the same time I think overall the reaction will be positive as long as what they do offer looks good. There will be those crushed because they've been wanting to be male Viera since they came into this world, but I expect the majority of players don't have such strong ties to the idea.
I think more people care than you think, in both the east and the west. I could be wrong of course, but it seems to me that a lot of people have been eager to see male Viera after so many years. Offering people something else, even if it looks good, isn't going to make people just forget about it. The Hrothgar will just open up another can of worms since then you'll be hearing from people who want a female version of that on top of the people who wanted male Viera to begin with.
I just don't see it going over well at all.
Maybe, but people have also shown interest in different body sizes and shapes.
Mhm, well - even if they'd start creating one now, you would need to wait several months into expansion for it.
Let's just see what they have to say during FanFest and panic afterwards.
Yea, that's the thing, I don't even mind waiting for the male Viera if need be. Just the idea that they're closing the door on them entirely bothers me, especially if the only reason for it is that Yoshi thought they were "weird." That's what I'd be angry about. I don't mind waiting.
Lol, well you keep your hopes up! I honestly don't see that happening based on what we have so far. They would have to design like 4 different sets of armor for each race. I don't know how they handle changes in size now but I think a medium build to bigger build probably doesn't take a whole different design.
