I play AION and No it does not beat the current FFXIV not by a long shot.

Tera > Aion > WoW
In order of better neon color graphics and newest to oldest.
FFXIV doesn't use the same color pallet* (thank god). Not even sure I would want to put it in the same list as them.
* In consistency at least, the grotto caves shmenolololpooopooo (spelling error? hehehe) are fairly neon but it works there.
gawd@mn you guys make me ashamed to be part of this community. There are some serious people in here with pinkies raised in the air crying "meh" and "poo poo"over the graphics. LMAO since when are you actual critics well vested in what constitutes good and bad graphics? Don't you think if your judgement was so good you would be working for one of these game companies instead of just playing them? Get over yourselves. Yeah the systems old, yeah the PS3 is "good" but not the best in the entire world at this current point in time. ok? and the point is? seriously you guys are sad. Makes me want to not even read these lame threads anymore. Suck the spit through your braces/retainers, straighten your cheap metal wizard and dragon figurines. Dorks. Like a bunch of friggen hens in a hen house.......
First meet Hein in FF3 as boss that has imprisoned a town and has taken the great fairy tree and turns it into a flying castle. He isn't really a huge part of the story more like a side boss.
Amon you find in the endgame dungeon in FF3 and looks pretty much the same as Hein but just reskined. He protects the throwing weapon "Rising Moon".
This character is hardly a character because of what he does in FF3 and he is not even mentioned in any other FF. This is a good thing for FF14 which they can now create him into a decent character one we can even remember well and not think hes Kefka, gogo or gilgameish just because how hes dressed.
the generation i grew up in never complained about graphics. we played 8-bit games and loved them. this generation is just spoiled and entitled. i remember being impressed with FFVII cause the chrs blinked... bottom line is gameplay, you can have the prettiest looking piece of shit game and in the end its still a piece of shit... look at the 1.0 launch. I'm willing to sacrifice graphics for a decent game.
but this is just my opinion.
They tried to have the best graphics and set the bar really high and in the end it wasnt worth it. i dont see how they expected 1.0 to be playable on the PS3. at this stage it seems the options are to sacrifice a few chr animations, broaden the spectrum of graphics support, then hopefully release the game again in less than a year. if you want the bestest graphics out there this game will be at minimum 2 years or more off.
i think the graphics look amazing and thats just what i've seen via youtube videos (and we all know how good that quality can be). i think its prident to reserve this level and amount of critisizm for when we have had a chance to play it and tinker with the settings our selves, until then it really feels like the spoiled brat syndrome.
I dont think it is entitled when the company does and says they will be the best MMO graphics - but I carry this statement for PC. It would be like vavle making Portal 3 but all the puzzles sucked and there was no quirky smart dialog. Those are a staple safe expectation that involves no entitlement.
I think sometimes people forget that making video games is not "just" art (it is art) but it is also a business, and you serve your customers.
That being said, this is a PS3 topic and there is a point of realistic expectations. The PS3 is old - getting good graphics on a MMO structure is quite a challenge (and SE isn't a master of the ps3 as it is not their main console (the main focus)).
Anyway, I think people are a little lose with the entitlement speech..
(though everyone shouldn't expect PC graphics on PS3)
Lmao I gotta love MMO players, say 1 bad thing that goes against the game they play and they pounce on you like savage dogs. Jesus get over it, I have my own opinion and you have yours. Go outside in Uldah and look in that blurry distance and at the dull land around you, how about zoom your camera out while on the chocobo while you are at it to have that nice little lag aswell while moving. Fair enough zoomed in to your character/CS' the game looks AMAZING without a doubt, but only really when zoomed in, you go stand outside bric a brac and you need to wait 5 minutes to have a small amount of people pop on the screen. I'd show you a screen of a siege on korean servers where there was like 400+ people appeared on the screen, insane.
So now this is the highlight of the thread again anyone else want another go while we at it? If not get over it omg, quit crying at peoples opinions its not the end of the world you know.... or is it.
The wonders of opinions! Your feelings VS the world. get it? "Scott Pilgrim VS the world :D.
Aion does not have great graphics, let alone compariable to XIV 1.0 or probably even 2.0 lol. Aion's graphics are horrible even for that era. I would have used Lineage II as an example if we're comparing two different aesthetics.
That's called Depth of Field.Quote:

No I don't.Quote:

That's a limitation not caused by graphics.Quote:

That client is designed to show 400+ people at a time, XIV's is not.Quote:

"Aion's graphics are better than XIVs" isn't an opinion.Quote:

Right because I change DoF in the sound settings because it has nothing to do with graphics, ok then. Its limitations you say, yet on 1 PC I have a better card than the other and NPCs appear alot faster on the PC with the higher grade GPU, because its due to limitations and not graphics. Aion's graphics are better than XIVs is my own personal opinion, so how is it not an opinion, am I missing something here?
Also, never played L2, sorry. Only XI/XIV/Aion/WoW/PW/SW. :/

XD, the regular forum theme song for me lol
If you mean Amon, then yes (to my knowledge). If you mean Hein, then no. The great Hein (Hyne) is referenced in FFXIII as the creator of the bloodline of Witches. The spelling is different in English (same in Japanese) but the story goes that Hyne cast off his skin (becoming a skeleton). http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Great_Hyne
It's fine to have your own opinion, the problem here is that what you are mentioning as "better graphics" is actually "better engine" and "better aesthetics". Which 2.0 will (hopefully) get with ARR.
Graphics is about texture quality, details and effects you can have, while NPC display count, background drawing quality and graphics/camera lag is about how optimized the engine is. Aesthetics are something completely different and independent, namely how much attention to little details like physically correct, smooth animations, overall design of the world etc was given by the designers.
I wouldn't start picking them apart until you see it in motion.
To be quite honest, I'm not even sure why everyone keeps bringing up aesthetics, it was nowhere in the discussion until someone brought it up, do you even know why the discussion was brought up? It was said that FFXIV is the end all be all in the "graphics" department. Also correct me if I'm wrong since I'm not a game designer, but im pretty sure it's a "graphics" unit that processes all these things, not an aesthetics unit. Either way pointless discussion that has gone on long enough, which I'm not going to continue to talk about because it seems everyone seems to know better, you know, being the internet and all.
2.0 looks amazing without a doubt, looking forward to it.
Thank you oh all powerful, god of FFXI naysayers for the future of FFXIV. Thank you for telling us what our opinion is, from your own mouth, oh thank you oh great one!
On topic, These graphics are amazing, for a PS3 Console MMORPG. There is so much you can do. You can never compare single-player game graphics to MMORPG graphics because the infrastructure is built entirely different, and sacrifices at parts that are expected in single player games to make it run and work and look optimally.
I won't believe it until I see a normal consumer PS3 running the game with more than 30 characters on screen ;P
This.
^ Explain how that's an opinion. An opinion starts with "I think/feel" and would read like: "I think Aion's graphics beat the hell out of the current FFXIV graphics." What you stated originally is basically stating Aions graphics are better than XIVs. English isn't my native language and even I know the difference. The english language has so many nuances that can completely change what you mean.
Here is where you failed my friend ..there are no shes in the interwebz.
on topic i'm willing to bet Yoshi-P will shut most of complainers mouth at launch the game will be amazing in every aspect.. Yoshi-P is a very demanding director/gamer he wont be satisfied with anything less than perfect
This could actually be more harmful than good -- Developers who settle for "nothing less than perfect" runs the risk of not only losing hype for their game but also missing a time period for their project; For example, nowadays Shooters and 'Sandbox' type games are the rage, what if the game that wouldn't released "until it's perfect" was an older fashioned Shooter game, basically missing the boat as they say?
The whole "when it's ready" style release dates work fine but XIV is a special case because it's a relaunch, not a new game -- it's still titled Final Fantasy XIV, a name marred with negative press and bad history -- They have a lot to do and a lot of expectations to meet.
Which is precisely why Yoshida is doing his job as Producer and Director to make sure the game launches in as pristine a condition as humanly possible. Overlooking things and otherwise not having a plan for the future is Tanaka-era and we're hopefully past that now. Yoshida needs to continue doing his job, making sure things are up to his level of expectation or greater -- which is what fans would expect of the game regardless.
As for me, I'm past the 'bad hate and bad press' experience. I'm perfectly happy waiting for this game, however long it might take, so long as it's perfect and ready for launch when that time arrives. I'm sure a lot of other people feel the same.
Just posting doesn't make something an opinion or fact -- What you post does however. What you're saying in other words is you can post something like "Hey, Mcdonalds sells burgers!" and you would say that's your opinion.
The one who brought it up was you -.-
I tried to explain it to you twice now, I guess I'm just bad at it.
Yes. It still doesn't change the fact that what you see as "graphics" is composed from different components, one of them being graphic quality (=what is better in FFXIV), design consistency/quality (=aesthetics=what is better in Aion) and engine optimization (=what makes NPCs appear faster and the camera lag less)Quote:
Also correct me if I'm wrong since I'm not a game designer, but im pretty sure it's a "graphics" unit that processes all these things, not an aesthetics unit.
Actually I would have needed to say, I KNOW Aion has better graphics to make it a statement, but seeing as I didin't it would imply that is what I THINK(personal opinion not anyone elses). Please stop trying to look good because you yourself don't even know the difference.
Let me word it for you:
Aion has better graphics - Its not stating anything, its just an opinion. Ofcourse better wording could be used tho.
MaccyDs sells burgers - Well I/u KNOW that, so would would be a statement rather than an opinion.
Please, stop trying so hard.
Actually original post was here:
Then I replied, because I totally started it right? You know because replying to something means starting the entire discussion? Yes people was not happy with the reply so best all shoot that person because of what they said, lol. Also even if you look he's talking about aesthetics aswell, why not jump on his ass because he confused them with graphics?! Oh right because he fanboy'd it and I didn't, heh.
This is where you and a lot of ppl are wrong.. it is a new game built from the ground up it is a complete new team which have a whole different style of ideas the title is new servers will be new etc etc. this new game will only borrow names from 1.0 as w/e came after NOV 2011 was Yoshi-P's doing
You can say that the sky is green with yellow polka dots, and hide between the "it's an opinion!" excuse. That dosn't make it less nonsensical.
Aion's graphics are outdated, flat and undetailed. There's absolutely no point of view under which they can be considered "better" than those you find in FFXIV, 1.0 or ARR.
Yeah, people seem to forget that this is a new game with the same name ( only because they don;t want a Numbered FF game to fail) so this is their way for preserving that name. Other than the name.. most things about FFXIV ARR will be New, heck they even changed their minds on the last minute to change some things "within" the cities..
but what do I know I'm just a lowly peasant from Gridania who eats marmots because everyone is like "MY FOOD HISSSSS". ^.^
There are lots of haters sniffing about aren't they?
Well I just hope ARR will blow this minds away, so they won;t have to be all down SE throat with Negativity all the damn time. ( Negativity is fine, but it just seems a lot of people over due it). out of my 2 years on these forums.. only like 3% of the time people say something good about what SE is doing, while the other 97% are like "SE YOU FAIL GO BACK TO YOUR CORNER"
Most of the time, the forums do more complaining then constructive criticism. I'm the 1 in the few people that try to give SE something to be hopeful about. If all the forums do is bash SE.. where is the motivation to make an awesome game?
There has to be a balance between telling (SE your doing this wrong! and SE your doing a great job keep it up!) I know they are a company.. but they are human to, if someone kept bashing your ideas to the ends of the earth or even bullying you How would your self-esteem be at that time?
It's like a parents need to have unconditional love for their child. Saying this is bad but showing them you still love and care for them. Of course it's not the same way with a Company, but people do need motivation to have any strive to even continue.
That's why I do what I do on the forums, but I'm only one human being :P.
If you think I'm jumping you, you are mistaken. If I was jumping you, I'd said something along the lines of your opinion not being an opinion.
If you see an attempt to clarify aesthetics vs graphics to you as "jumping you" then maybe you're being a bit too sensitive about it.
And the reason I didn't "jump" him is simple: I only skimmed over the post. Indirectly calling me a fanboy is rather hilarious considering some of my post on these forums, especially regarding ARR
I'm not even bashing SE @_@ I actually love the look of 2.0 and just like the rest of the fan base, are DIEING to play it!! Everything they have shown so far has been amazing, just wish it would hurry up already! xD
I do agree with you tho, a good 90% of the forum is just people complaining all the time, although I'm not complaining about anything! Well except the game currently is kinda laggy, but we know this should be fixed in the new version. :)
Stop trying so hard, read the post again, I said HE fanboyed it, not you, jesus. Also yes, ty for pointing out the difference between the both.
