We haven't heard anything about that in forever. I'm surprised Yoshida didn't bring it up in his post. He brings up a content finder that sounds 'within server,' not cross-server. That was also when we were under the impression that there weren't going to be region-preferenced servers. I doubt this feature is going to still be around as this seems to more or less stick with the traditional server architecture and isn't exactly breaking new ground like a cross-server content finder would need.

I play at all sorts of different hours of the day and speak several languages, because of both these things the non-regional system is absolutely perfect for me because I get to play with lots of different people and be active in several LSs.

So even if you have friends that all speak English, if some of them chose to go to an EU Server and others go to a North America Server, (and naturally your JP friends stay on the Japan Server), what then?

You'll inevitably lose friends and your various Linkshells will be split / broken.

This is a terrible decision Square. :(

Youre standing around in town, not doing anything, someone shouts but its in a language you do not know. How does this affect what you do in your same-language parties? I didn't say anything about playing with other language groups, I said see it on your screen, thats period. Just seeing it upsets some people, those are the closet racists I referre to. One was actually open about being upset by it.

But in any case. Some people wanted this option, they can now have their separation. They dont need to worry about seing another language shouted in town anymore if they dont want to, and enjoy their totally lagless environments.

In fact, based on the live letter answers, the current servers will remain as they are, so you're not going to lose any of your friends unless they personally choose to abandon you for a better ping.

Again with the same argument from someone who clearly must have no social life. Have you not been reading (or thinking)?

This isn't about close friends, who you only really have 5. You can enjoy the company of a lot of people and in the end they can still choose a different server for obvious reasons. I'll state some so you can understand and hopefuly not bring this up again:

1- Their close friends, who are not YOUR close friends, will move to a different server.

2- Their community will move to a different server, making the difficult decision of "1 friend vs a world of possible friends that speak my language". If they choose to move to wherever their community goes, you have to understand.

On top of that you even have the latency argument, which for me means nothing but can have some weight when deciding where to move.

This isn't hard to understand. Some COUPLES will split up when deciding to move to an entirely different region because of work. Some people just can't live without their community, even if that means abandoning the person from that community they love the most. Life isn't a romantic fairy tail. XIV surely will follow that. People will get separated. That's a fact.

I wonder who Rokien would side with on this issue.

That way, we could surely know who's making sense and who isn't.

At best it will be cross-worlds within the same region yes. But never JP x EU x NA. Where would the instance be hosted? It makes no sense at all.

This is an independent problem from labeled servers. We already had a server merge a while ago and many friends-of-friends chose to seperate. This is unavoidable, even just by adding / merging servers with no region label.

I hope "Greater Freedom to Transfer Worlds" is like other "games" you can transfer server "daily" or something...

but even with that(transfer here and there)... it will be hard to make/keep friends...

How could being on a world thats in a different region be any laggier than the current system? I don't see the big deal here. If you feel like you HAVE to move over a few milliseconds of data, then move, if not stay where you are.

Even if there were no region servers, this would still happen whenever new servers added, or servers merge. Some people will choose to leave. Friends-of-friends-of-friends may become seperated, regardless of if we have regions or not. Fortunately for you, you can still communicate with those people by making another character on their server.

Yes, except the reason they split is different. Right now, adding servers would give no additional reason to move. You can EASILY keep the whole linkshell intact with server merging, just as it happened with my linkshell last time. But with the region choice, it is BOUND to break.

Actually I can relate to this, I was not around for the server merging so my characters merged into the new server, but the players I liked playing with didn't want to move with some other people so they transfered to a new server. Because I valued and enjoyed playing with them more I rerolled and rebuilt a character to lvl 50, enjoyed it, because I stayed with the friends and communities I wanted to play with. I made the sacrifice and I am proud of it. I would and WILL do it again if need be, because I value the friendships I made and I enjoy the experiences. Just because you don't think you can do it, that is your problem not SE or the communities or your friends, you just can't adapt to a new situation.

Exactly. Yes, sometimes friends will seperate. But you can either be sad about it, or you can make new friends. Personally, I prefer the latter.

You also have the option of creating a character on the server different friends went to so you can at least chitchat with them.

Guys, I know that having a server structure like this could be a huge inconvenience for you and your friends who play on different regions. But please realize that with the way things are being set up, this is not an insurmountable problem.

Tell your friends to join the same server.

Me to Japanese friend: Hey, you should come to the NA server, most of my friends are going there but I still want to play with ya.
Japanese friend: No, you should come to my server. Most of my friends are here in Japan, and are picking the local Japanese servers.

This is why people are saying its not as simple as you make it sound. People aren't saying that yeah, it could be as easy as telling some people to go to X and X server. If you are an NA asking a EU or a Japanese player to come to your server to hang with you, they basically have to sign up for:

1. Low latency
2. Different prime times
3. Depending on the destination server, etc, may or may not speak the language of most of the players.

If you ask someone to join your server, which is based on your region, it invariably sets them up for a gameplay advantage. It is not as easy as "Hey, come join my server" and 'bam,' it's done. Someone has to decide to get a little screwed over. That's what people are upset about. Someone either gets the short end of the stick, or they get all the perks.

Losing Friends? Or Better Connection/little to no lag?

I already covered this 3-4 times already.

Even if there were no regional servers, things like this still happen. It happened at the last server merge. It happened at the server merges in FFXI. It happens when new servers are added. It happens in every MMO, even within regions of the region-locked games.

You can not eliminate this problem.

I have nothing against static encounters because even dynamic encounters have a sense of "same ole same ole" about them eventually.

Its almost like they are trying to kill this game, but honestly I kinda hope it does, they destroy ff11 to make this game, and it was crap at release, but we stayed, they promise us legacy stuff for sticking around, then change their mind, they are obv. selling out like every other game has done and casual $ > all $ because theres more gimps in the world than not.
None of the original FF team is even around anymore, anything after ff11 just doesnt feel like ff anymore and square deserves to tank after giving the entire "actual" FF fan base thats been around for so many years the middle finger to try and grab a few wow subs.
Does anyone actually expect them the succeed with pvp? If they think making a pve community happy they have something comming, most of the pvp community in the world doesnt give second chances, you get it right, or your done, SE has no experience in pvp at all unless you think you can count ballista?

Only Go.. ehm Yoshi-P knows how interesting will be the encounters in the future.

But speeding all the things up (better interface, better reaction time, no lag, no action lock)
are already a gooood starting point.

To the devs, at the very least and though I doubt we'll see any reasonably distributed servers, put a player distribution graph beside each world's name so we have more information to decide what works out best.

E.g.
Gungnir: 90% NA, 8% EU, 2% JP
Excalibur: 33% NA, 33% EU, 33% JP

To add on to this, and if they don't want to join a server you offer just join the server they do if it bothers you that much!
