As someone who ran with the JP dubs, Wuk was annoying, but I could stomach her to a degree.

I miss the days when folks would just walk away - problem is that both groups tend to take turns hitting each other and so it just runs wild. In the age of digital engagement people seem to forget that the proto-internet was the wild west where anonimity brought out VERY harsh reactions from people and you really needed to be durable if you were going to wade into the discussion. People engaging in political discourse in the current enviroment need to be careful as well especially if you are holding onto status.

All that to say the FF XIV community thrives on social media drama; just go to the police and stop engaging the garbage imo.

I am trying to verify but I heard a rumor that most the DT MSQ writing was by the team that did the Beast tribes quests prior - if so then the feeling of everything being super compartmentalized and inconsequential makes a lot more sense. I don't "hate" Wuk Lamat but I am exhausted by her being far too focused in the MSQ while at the same time the moment any potential character development might happen; we simply rapidly change to some other arc. We never really explore her relationships with anyone other then Koana despite constrantly engaging the other competitors; and the fact that Bakool is the outsider they wrote him as unreachable for any introspection until the end...and then we immediately shift away from him.

Personally? I would have changed the 2nd beat of DT. I would have had Zoraal and Bakool and Wuk go to investigate Heritage found. During that time we would learn about Zakools issues and see Bakool become more understanding and less a dick; culimating with Zoraal betraying us at Everkeep and Bakool saving our lives and being badly injured/killed as his redemption arc. Instead Zakool who seems controlled and smart throws a childish tantrum that gets him disqualified and then steals the mcguffin and Bakool suddenly learns that not being a dick is a good idea. All because of the far too heavy handed focus on Wuk Lamat which puts her issues with her writing on open display until she quite literally breaks the 4th wall in the last trial...

It is true, that has been confirmed. So there are 3 writers for DT.

Daichi Hiroi who was a Game Content Designer for Heavensward and a Quest Designer for Shadowbringers previously, no other credits to his name.
Megumi Onozuka who's only other credit is Quest Designer for Shadowbringers.
And Finally... Tomohiro Kawasaki who also was a Quest Designer for Shadowbringers, but who's other credits include 3 other "Games", which are a series of Adult Visual Novels where he is credited with writing the script.

It's some guy with dozens of forum accounts who posts new bait threads or necroes old bait threads. His forum character is usually a highlander and has crafter and gatherer classes maxed out but only one battle job. I can only guess why someone would want to pay for so many accounts just to not play on them.

I think Windwalker was probably trying to make that point, at least that's what I got from it. Nobody cares about the VA as a person, or even as a performer... They care that this particular performance was pretty poor, and it wasn't helped by the writing.

I do not get why people keep saying the VA's performance was awful. It was fine within the limits of the character as it was written (which was cringy) and the dialogue given to use (which was bad at times).

What makes it awful to you? Is it because the character doesn't sound like the stereotypic Hispanic as all too often portrayed on TV and in the movies?

Is it because you're expecting the accent of a certain dialect and aren't hearing it? There are multiple accents within the various Central and South American dialects just as there are within American English and British English.

It would be helpful if you would explain why you feel it is bad and give specific examples from the MSQ (please don't share any from 6.55 - almost all voice acting in that patch was off, including the Scions).

She has a flat monotone voice with no emotion it has nothing to do with wanting an all British cast. It made me feel no connection to her or feel any emotion whatsoever from her performance it's not just the poor writing. No amount of good writing or hiring a better voice director would change my mind on her flat monotone tone throughout the expansion. I don't get what nationality or accent has to do with not liking her performance because if she was part of the British cast or any other nationality she would still be just as bad.

All the various times she was meant to yell but it coming out soft and emotionless or any instance of her trying to be "angry" she seems to not be able to show any emotion other then happy and maybe sad in scenes.

The emotion on her voice rarely fits what the character is supposed to be evoking in scenes where they do more than have mundane chatting standing around. If you can't tell that by yourself and need someone else to point it out, I'm sorry, your standards for voice acting are abysmal.

One example that came in mind is when Wuk Lamat

attack Zoraal Ja just after he killed Galool Ja Ja.
In Japanese, German or even French, you can hear the anger, the rage and the pain when she is saying her brother name (the german one in absolutely marvelous in this case). In English she whispers it with a barely hoarse voice.

All 4 languages This was what I could find, without the SPEEEEEN scene.

Try the scene of speaking from the top of the building at the ceremony. No volume, same exact casual inside speaking voice as anywhere else. When shes supposed to be speaking out to a crowd.
Listen to any other language dub and you can tell the change in everything based on context of the situation, but nothing in english.

You can always search things yourself you know. It's not hard.

I can still think she's a jerk for her own comments, but that has absolutely zero to do with her identity because hey, being people too, trans folks can also have bad takes and flaws like the rest of us (doubly so when they make the same mistake a lot of people do by posting it on Twitter, oof!). But she sure as hell didn't say anything to warrant the harassment and threats she's gotten. Same thing with the transphobes here, they're getting rightly bodied for their attitude and actions, not because they happen to be white, black, man, woman, gay, lesbian, etc. (And no, if they get moderated that isn't "harassment or threats" lol.)

That said, it's my understanding that Dawntrail's EN VA performance in general was subpar? Like, it wasn't even just Wuk Lamat, but even long time characters with established EN VA like some of the Scions sounded rushed/phoned in? If that's the case, it might be worth giving the whole English voice track of Dawntrail a redo (I can think of worst things they could spend my sub/cash shop money on). As well, I've been told that Wuk Lamat isn't terribly popular JPN, EU, or OCE side either, which means the problems with the character are entirely on the writers and not the VA because it sounds like *none* of them could salvage what they had to work with. Asking for a rewrite isn't quite as feasible I think, since so much of the story is tied into the cutscenes and gameplay, which means the only recourse there is to simply "do better" going forward.

So yeah, not liking the character, writing, and performance is valid if Square-Enix really did drop the ball on all fronts, and even disliking Sena due to her comments makes sense too, but it's entirely possible to dislike all these things without being transphobic about it whatsoever, but that seems to be the ball a part of the community is dropping right now themselves, and it'll only serve to undermine actually valid criticism about SE's current work. (And the last thing you want to give them is a free pass to ignore any problems when they make enough excuses already.)
