To Tanks Who only pull One Mob at a Time......

When I started Tanking on my GNB, I was used to the whole, "Pull 2 or more." groups of mobs, so I pretty much would pull entire rooms and keep going. Haven't been told to slow down, so win win I guess. I mean, we're tanks, our job is to take damage, use mitigation, and keep the attention on us. Tanks who want to take things slow-mo, need to make they're own parties of slow-mo players, no offense.

I think its disrespectful to pull one pack at a time. Other people's time have value, and trash packs in dungeons are the one of the least fun shit in this game. Since I'd rather chew a cup of glass than spend 20 minutes mindlessly spamming my aoe rotation, I just quit whenever I get tanks that do this.
Also if you want to "enjoy the beauty of the dungeons" as some people said, do it in explorer mode alone or with others that consent on losing their time, thank you.

Pull harder Daddy!

I am sorry, I am still learning to tank. I am use to my squadron who usually die when i pull too much. it takes time for me to learn, (but only have to deal with me in 1-51 dungeons i just hit 51 on my paladin :D but most of that was with duty support or squadron)

the best way to learn is getting inside a FC, form a party with veteran tanks in it and having the patience to listen to them while running initial dungeons.

The dynamics of squadron are very different. Not a good place to train tanking skills...

I think a big difference is those who come here from another MMO and pick up tanking, without knowing how different tanking is.

I learned taking back in 2.0. Where aggro was difficult to keep and gear was your 'gatekeeper' in dungeons.

I honestly also learnt tanking with squadron at first, cause I didn't have the courage to do it with real people. It's not ideal but it does help getting down the basics and getting used to the general role.

Of course running with people you know, especially if they're experienced tanks, and being guided is a further level, but both thing can happen in the same period. The squadron will never teach you things like the importance of arm's length and when to use it, etc, but it can get your feet wet a bit and relieve some anxiety.

too all those picking on tanks when you set up a party be sure the tank your picking is up to the job if not you should have a list of the good ones you can count on meaning a fc house should have its own list to choose from if your puging it goog luck

She shouldn't have to take the 30 over people that are too selfish to learn their task in a group activity.

As a baby tank, I just pull 2-3 packs at a time usually, although I'm still in Stormblood content. When are W2Ws usually expected?

Wall to Wall pulls are doable as soon as you get into Castrum Merdinium in ARR. You'll notice dungeon design gets more streamlined to have a 2 or so mob packs in a room before you see a barrier. Since you're in Stormblood stuff, its perfectly fine for you to do big pulls at that point.

Just.... just be careful when you criticize people in-game about this(on the forums too I guess since in some cases it falls under the TOS). There are a handful of people out there trying to bait responses.

Pretty much been my experience, too. They're out there, but much rarer. And in my experience the time difference really is negligible unless the party has some other issues going on. With lower dps, it can actually end up faster because the tank and I can just concentrate on contributing to dps instead of wasting all our CDs on a big pull that's taking forever.

With just my tank aoe and our DPS single-targetting, we got everything downed relatively quickly. Treating sprouts like they're incompetent is basically like holding a baby up above the water so they'll never learn to swim on their own.

Thats true but that wasnt necessarily a "baby tank" doing those big pulls now was it? It certainly gave the fresh healer I assume a bit of an adrenaline rush so they only really had to worry about keeping a tank who knew the dungeon layoutn and what they were doing.

Yeah, and i'd really like to know how one gets a "rush" spamming the one and only healing spell available in the first dungeon. Not like it changes anything if there's more than one group of enemies, other than perhaps having less time to use the two attack spells. Yay...

I wasnt talking about that. I was just referring to the example the poster said about taking newcomers, when really the only person in that party that had to worry was the healer. Tank knew what they were doing, dps only need to worry about keeping up and doing their very limited rotations, healer however had to deal with quickly learning to dps and heal the tank. Unless the healer spend the rest of the pull just healing anyway. But if the healer said they were fine then thats all that matters. However I had examples where I had baby healers where I asked if they were good for big pulls, they said sure but then we had a hiccup and they decided to go back to small pulls.

Im just saying to come up with better examples of complete newbies doing a dungeon for the first time with the w2w advice. I know when I first got into tanking in an MMO ever, it took me a while to obtain that level of confidence and skills to realize how to do dungeons, and it was thanks to people's patience that allowed me to always do wall to wall. Just basic communication in what you're doing is all it takes.

Odds are at least one other person in the party is from my FC if not 2. Sometimes in a small FC we wont get 3 others online at the same time. So just let me level in peace and get it over with, I'm already considering a job skip but I can't afford it thanks.

just because you dont like tanking doesnt mean you have only to do the bare minimum.
and there are other ways to lvl your jobs... so you wouldnt have to tank for real people... or you can go to bozja using lost skills and play your tank as a dps

This is the kind of people SE listens to. People who play job or role even though they don't like them. Seriously, you have 19 jobs in game, stop forcing yourself to play the ones you dislike just because of some dumb mount or achievement.

And if you really insists on leveling those jobs in DF, where your mediocre performance affects other players, just learn the very basics of the goddamn job. Stop pretending that it's rocket science, just spend 10-15 minutes reading tooltips and you will understand how any job works. If reading is too hard for you, watch some youtube guides.

Uhm... Wouldn't you prefer to spend less time doing something you dislike? I hate grinding the PvP series rewards but the more matches I win the faster I can move on to something more fun.

This hasn't died yet? Its SE designed, so tanks can choose to pull one mob group at a time and healers can ignore doing dps to just heal rarely, or never in 81-89. Don't like the group, leave, the group doesn't like one member, kick em. Get kicked a lot for one pulling, make your own group.

Worst excuse ever.

I don't mind tanks pulling pack after pack when there is a good reason. Sometimes the tank is new, or just wants a slower pace for reason X or Y (lag, for example). For this reason, I never allow myself to go forwards, because I implicitly assume that a tank at ease already knows that rush is usual in this game. So he has a reason not to pull everything.

On the other hand, when you start building a class, implicitly you should try to play it as well as possible. We're not asking you to do purple or orange parses; just to put in a little effort. If you are not prepared to make that effort, please only play with members of your guild, or with NPCs.

Fun thing, when I started tanking (I wasn't a sprout, but still very much a sprout tanking-wise) I used to pull small out of fear. One day in Sastasha roulette I get an healer who keeps pulling more and telling me to pull more. It made me so angry cause back then I was a believer of pulling small to be more comfortable and all. Manwhile healer was all cheery. By the last room, wheer he said something like "pull all the room, you can do it!" I was sooo angry that I ended up rage-pulling. Just pulled the whole room in a "oh you want that??? you get that!!! and if I die it's on you!!" berserk rage kind of way. Needless to say, I actually ended up loving it and since then I never tanked small again.
Sometimes you just need to push a bit over your limits to even know that you can push over your limits and be fine and get rid of those limits.

Then don't do it? I also max all classes. The ones I really can't stand touching, i just level through pvp and tails. The ones I'm meh about, I either stick to something very easy, like cutscenes roulette, or have the decency to still learn well enough to carry my weght in content. And yeah, like others said Bozja and deep dungeons are also a thing, plus beast tribes now. You literally have no excuse. Hell, there are even fates.

Yea if you dont like tanking why dont you just leave it be? Or level it with frontline and fates? Having only one enabler with you doesnt protect you from being kicked btw. You dont get a vote if the vote kick is about you.

You might actually like it better if you pull multiple packs at a time, its at the very least more engaging. I couldnt imagine how mind numbingly boring dungeons would be pulling one at a time.

if you dont like tanking, and you pull more, you'll be done with leveling sooner.

also not sure why you'd level tanks if you dont like tanking and dont intend to play tanks. but you do you.

As someone who has gotten everything to 90, I can tell you that it is very much possible (and is fairly quick) to level jobs to cap without interacting with anyone. If you don't like your role in group content, don't do group content. Don't be selfish and force people to deal with your leeching because you want all of the jobs (some of which you'll apparently never play) at 90.

2 groups of mobs is understandable but I've seen too much pressure for new tanks to do w2w when there obviously not comfortable doing that
This is probably the same type of person that decides to run ahead of the group trying to pull everything so I just shirk aggro onto them and watch them die.
