I'd think it's more likely to be Lunar Ifrit given that the Amal'jaa are involved. I doubt they'll use all the Lunar Eidolons given how many their are, but that one kinda just slots in there really nicely.
Didn't Owen mention in the document that he left behind that they had found a way to prevent tempering? It's entirely possible that Eorzea might temporarily pivot towards focusing on that over developing a full cure for it given that the threat of mass-tempering is in play and threatens their continued operations. I doubt that the towers will be dealt with by the end of 5.5, but I also don't think we'll be focusing on them for too long in 6.0.
I think those towers have to be "global". And they make me think - in my exceptionally woolly way given I am not a lorehound - that they are taking juice from the air (aether) which causes said tempering. I am thinking this is either a secondary effect or preliminary effect. I think the towers are putting something out which hits against what's effectively an ozone layer, which then pools out whatever their energy is, creating a web or dome effect across the planet. It reaches a certain point where said energy can no longer be contained and everything explodes or something and bye bye star because no ozone is bad (here's where I should point out not only am I no a lore hound, I am also not a scientist!:cool:). When everyone's stuck dealing with lots of tempered people across the entire known area and bits we've not been to, if a general global explosion doesn't take everyone down with tempering fallout, the prior mass tempering effect from a global network of towers may fix the rest of it.
But really, I have no idea, no basis in lore beyond aether being air in this sense (it is in the classical sense, and I certainly refer to things being up in the aether in feeling uncertain or things are unclear), I just decided that's what I'd do with them if I wanted to cause problems. Admittedly, I'd want them constantly playing music that sends people loopy on top of everything else*, but that could be considered a bit too much. :D
*I'm thinking akin to Mars Attacks!
We already know from what happened with Elidibus' manipulation of the Crystal Tower that if the ambient aether is agitated sufficiently it can cause entities to manifest very easily; with the prayers and hopes of the WoLs from other stars creating the specters that were hounding us and the Scions.
I feel like the "Garlean" towers may be doing something similar and if it's to be a recreation of the Final Days, I'm expecting the lunar primals to just be phase one of the problem and it's the doom and gloom they stir up amongst the commonfolk that's going to start manifesting the Terminus beasts. I'm confused as how the tempering they induce plays into all of this though, unless Fandaniel has somehow found a way to harness the faith of the tempered as a power source for creating primals in general as opposed to it fueling just one entity in particular.
Inb4 there's some Ilberd in there as well because why not.
On a more serious sort of note, I wonder if they will remix Scale and Steel or The Worm's Tail for the 2nd phase. I think most of us think of the latter when talking about Shinryu in FFXIV, but The Worm's Tail has Stormblood's motif throughout which I think should stay in Stormblood-related content... Unless you subscribe to the "Stormblood never ends" meme.
I suppose it's possible but story wise where would they get Shinryu data from? I could see them having some data on Zenos sure but Zenos only had Shinryu for a short time, and then was promptly killed, not sure how this weapon project could have gotten any data from Zenos' brief time posessing Shinryu.
I'm hoping so, I enjoyed the primal remixes in Eden but I really don't want there to be a whole set of 'Lunar Primals' we have to deal with in EW. I hope it's just Bahamut and we take him out either in the dungeon or an instanced story fight at the end of 5.5.
Do you think they stopped tracking him after he died? What if they scanned Elidibus skills too?
It's 'possible' but tracking via what method? Who was collecting data and how? Zenos so far as we know only merged with Shinryu briefly and then Shinryu died. Who would have been recording this? Who would have sent it? It seems more likely to me that the data of Zenos was probably just taken before the liberation of Ala Mhigo, perhaps even before Stormblood proper.
Zenos was still wearing his suit when he merged, and the data was being transmitted from there. Also "don't think too hard about it". There are plenty of times where the games tells the player to assume something just works. Also the previous Weapons referenced the being they oversoul into in their designs. Ruby's entire design references Nael's helmet, sapphire and emerald have Regula and Gaius helmet heads. Diamond on the other hand, besides having the third eye, has a more draconian looking face. Also Diamond's model render appears to be a retooled Shinryu skeleton.
Personally, I just think it's funny we're fighting the Diamond Weapon in the sky when in VII it's infamously slow and bound to the land.
It is kind of funny as well that Ruby and Emerald were end game super bosses, but Diamond was just something you fought briefly in the main story and then got shot by a cannon. Though I suppose one could argue that it may be more powerful than the others because we couldn't stop it and it took the giant cannon to actually take it out. Kind of like sapphire weapon which was never fought at all.
To be fair, Lunar Ifrit, Shiva, and Titan aren't very visually similar to FFXIV's versions and Asura hasn't even shown up yet as a regular Primal. Even within the canon, Lunar Bahamut has no relationship to the 'original' Bahamut primal, it's basically just a name Fandaniel picked out because it's Scary Dragon.
I chock that up to the devs going, "Didn't one of the weapons fly?"
"Yeah, we had them kill it in 2.0."
"Uhh... shi... Plan B!"
Of course, in FFXV Kingsglaive they have multiple and they are airlifted into Insomnia.
But given that the Garlean Empire in XIV makes floating cities more or less, for their warships... it's not surprising they made it fly!
To add onto this: FFXIV's Lunar Bahamut shares the same color palette as FFIV's Lunar Bahamut, and obviously used FFXIV's Bahamut Prime animation rig. But its model is remarkably different from both, with plantlike growths and polyps jutting out of its head and wings. This gives it a very alien appearance—something I expect would also be reflected in any other Lunar Eidolons if they make an appearance in 5.5-6.0.
I doubt we'll see Lunar Asura. Mostly because Queen Gunnhildr took a wild swing away from her Asura-esque mural artwork and into the horrifying territory of unwilling roboticization (seriously, that chair of hers is the stuff of nightmares). But Lunar Ifrit, Titan, Shiva, Ramuh, Odin, Leviathan, and possibly an FFXIV original in the form of Lunar Garuda could make appearances.
Personally, I'd most like to see Lunar Odin, since unlike the rest he didn't get an Eden remake.
Lunar Zantetsuken, {Yes, Please.}
Geez. There is a lot to absorb in the 5.5. trailer.
Looks like we're going to be dealing with a whole mess of lunar primals just in the 5.5 MSQ, with Ifrit, Odin, and Ravana being among them.
The dragons are also going to be actively involved in dealing with the threat of the towers; most notably with Tiamat finally being pushed break free of her bonds to help stop that twisted mockery of her brother.
Why is Allie piloting the Diamond Weapon? :/
Did adventurers/resistance heroes try raiding the palace to kill Zenos? He is seen picking up another katana, which I think might be misleading, as I can't see Zenos throwing away the magic Kami sword that Yotusuyu gifted Zenos for a shoddier katana, so I'm assuming he's just picking up that katana to look at it before dropping it and then picking up his real weapon.
She could be piloting the G-Warrior strapped to Cid's flying platform, while the WoL and friends fight on foot on the platform.
The endgoal was for her or one of the others to steal the thing after it was completed, so she might try to do so oblivious to the fact that its Oversoul can be triggered forcibly.
Given the tendency for the trailers to mislead us, I'm hoping she still manages to make it out of the ordeal alive somehow.
I'd rather see her die over her brother. There's so few Raen men to be found in-game but there isn't exactly a shortage of Raen women sprinkled into positions of semi-relevance by comparison such as Yugiri and Mikoto.
In the trailer
Near the end, I believe we hear Estinien talking to Tiamat to convince her to fight Lunar Bahamut. Also Arenvald returns with Fordola. We get FFXII Cuchulain in Zadnor now. Also the "important character" appears to be the one that is pure light - Venat maybe? I believe the fight against the Lunar Primals is part 2's climax. I think Lunar Bahamut is Paglth'an's final boss as well. Where we fight him is just completely different from where the other primals seem to be fought. Which seems to be Cartenau.
It seems in part 2 Fandaniel lures the Alliance to Carteneau to unleash Lunar Primals on them. I think we also go to the Castrum in Eastern la Noscea? Not too sure
Regarding Cloud Deck. It is using a new Ultima remix that incorporates elements of Scale and Steel aka Shinryu Phase 1 aka Shinryu vs Omega.
They’ve let the past two guys die, they can at least save one!
At first to me it seemed to be Zenos, but upon further inspection the behind does not seem as big...
The silhouette of the head and hair screams Ysayle to me, but no way to say for sure. Just as likely the ghost of Venat or something.
Fordola roughing up Alphinaud. Arenvald nowhere in sight. I wonder... is she upset, maybe Arenvald is lost to us? T_T
Several Lunar Primals all in succession... instanced battles post Pagl'than?
Diamond Weapon lookin' like a snack, kicking that missile out of the air.
Bozja by another name is looking interesting fight wise.
Nier, uhm, Ques que c'est the duck?
Alisae's underage, so that's a pretty unsettling and highly inappropriate comment!
I like the arrangement (w/e you call it) of the Lochs theme; it's the only Ala Mhigan one I like besides the Garlean regional anthem. I presume Arenvald will feature besides Fordola. Wonder if she'll be performing some "redemptive" type of sacrifice. Beyond that, the robed light figure appearing before the derpander must be the mystery character they alluded to, though I imagine part 2 will deal with that bit more. Venat possibly? She is overdue an appearance and would be the one figure that would make sense in the H/Z arc. As for Zenos, all proceeding as expected for now, so I still wonder if we'll see some subversion of expectations in 6.0.
At least, with the Lunar Primals, there's a bit more variety than the usual ARR crew. The Lunar Bahamut's shell-styled attack patterns are cool. Looks like Tiamat will be coming out of captivity, too. I fully expect a twirling around each other in the sky dragon death chase, now.
clap clap. Just saw the trailer. First patch of 5.X that I'm hyped for. Looks like they're remembering to tidy up some big loose ends as the story reaches its finale. Nice to see certain characters get a spotlight again. Some nice game/UI changes too. Happy to support S-E when they're on form like this.
So all those Lunar Primals are all in one place and off we go to kill them in a 4 man dungeon? I've said in the past that these things are a means to an end and now I'm sure of it. These primals born from the towers are just batteries to be killed by us to release entire regions worth of aether in one location. They are important only in that they need to die in one place so Fandaniel can have all that power to enact his real plan. 6.0 trailer has Garlemald in ruins with towers seemingly made from charnel and this 5.5 trailer has Garlean soldiers acting like zombies. He is draining as much life as possible, that's his scheme.
Acting a lot like his mirror Hashmal did in FF Tactics. Plunge a realm into war and use the death and destruction to summon an ancient being of chaos to bring about the end of the world? Sounds familiar. He even said as much earlier on the the story. Just wait until he kills himself at or near the end of 6.0 to complete the ritual.
