People are so backwards with this. it's NOT the legacy players that are being entitled at all
it's the people that feel entitled to get the same things legacy players have without meeting the same requirements. and it's not just legacy stuff its generally everything in the game.

As far back as ARR if you smashed coil you got a rather prestigious and exclusive minion and final witness title.. they were rewards of your accomplishments... yet people are apparantly entitled because they wanted those things to remain exclusive but they're only exlcusive because other players are too lazy to get them themselves. if 100% of the population had smashed coil in ARR and got the final witness title those apparantly entitled players wouldnt care. because everyone had done the smae thing they did to get it.

the real entitlement though comes from people who want those same things but are not prepared to put the time or effort into getting them and expect / demand the requirements to change or alternative ways to accquire be added so they can get those items they feel entitled to because someone else has them..

the lack of prestige or value in any of this games rewards is one of the biggest reasons players just arent motivated to step up there game and rise to challenges. and why many players dont stick around very long.

but the entitled players are the ones who want the stuff other players have without meeting the same requirements they met to get it..

its the same with things like ultimate. players who have beaten it and gotten those rewards aren't "entitled" they are accomplished and prestigious.
the entitled people are the ones who expect easier ways to get those rewards in future and destroy the value an prestige associated there with..

Something being "limited edition" and then released again doesn't really change the sentimental value of the thing. Maybe the monetary value, but we're not really discussing any sort of monetary value attributed to the item in this case. Only that the item now "means less" because it's available from a different event.

The item that legacy players have still has the same meaning to them, it hasn't changed the sentimental value. And new players having access to the item from a different event simply means that the item has an entirely different sentimental value.

If your appreciation is devalued because someone else is able to appreciate something differently, maybe you're attaching too much significance to material goods.

Prestige is not a bad thing. it's one of humanity's biggest motivators. present in every single aspect of human life and progress. from being the guy that lands the hot girl. to the scientists that cures cancer. or the guy that lands a prestigious promotion at work.

it's like someone said earlier in the thread if you give everyone that ran a race a medal. the guy who actually came in first basically gets shafted his medal is worthless because everyones got one

I've thought about this after my last post. yeah maybe they have something planned to remake the old Nael fight or at least something close to par. We don't know and base things on SE's track record for events, A few talky bits and a low level zerg FATE. I'm more or less miffed about the whole thing only because SE went back on a promise that moving forward all items from 1.0 would stay in 1.0. However I can forgive that if the event has something to do with the old fight.

This is a good lesson for SE if that is the case. They do love spoiling rewards for events but keep silent on the events themselves. If it is the case SE needs to learn that it's not always a good idea to spoil certain event rewards. Given their track record with their formulas. It's easy for us all to make certain assumptions that the rewards will all just be free hand outs.

I guess saying one time in say/shout-chat "Oh, I remember this, this was a reward for a real cool and difficult fight back in 1.0" will give more recognition for legacy players than just wearing a not noticeable earring no one knows about.

You just answered your own question. Because it holds significant value to the people of people that have supported this game since day 1, and the game itself. Again, you should feel happy and quite frankly lifted that the game is celebrating what you participated in.

I’m actually a bit upset at this event! Who really wants “earrings” as a glamour reward for an event?!
Especially “ugly” ones like these ones....

Regarding the “snowflake” entitlement I couldn’t care less! In this game for a very long time now, a difficult mount to get, difficult piece of armour loses its “exclusiveness” in a short period of time as content keeps getting updated quickly. I kind of understand the legacy players, but I would be upset if they put it on mogstation. At least you can get it playing the game.

You mean exactly like these situations would generally be handled having something commemorative representing it? They could've made a Dalamud mount or practically anything else with no problem.

Yes they could have gone with several different things, Wind-Up Nael comes to mind. I just don't see the issue with commemorating it with these earrings. Now if they sold it on Mogstation a year later that'd be something different entirely IMO.

I already linked to the posts from the team themselves why its a problem on page 19. This is what they were telling players that were currently paying a subscription. Get these items if you want them because they're not coming back. They already bent the rules with the Laurel Goobbue. Now they're just outright breaking their word. I wouldn't be surprised if it did end up on the store after either.

No, I didn't get the earrings because I mostly played Miner when I was on and shifted back to whatever else I was doing because you couldn't play for more than an hour before hitting forced failures. I'm also not envious someone else did. I wanted a large house which took until Shirogane to get.

Thankfully we know that will never happen. The main reason on this is that Ultimate weapons exist in content that isn't on a time limit (and actually have stats and three materia slots, so it would fall into P2W-kinda territory). The earring is from something that no longer exists and was transformed into nothing more than a cosmetic item (+3 Slashing Resistance or something) as of ARR's release.

The Rising is never about the rewards, but the things SE may tease (it allows them to break the 4th wall). It's currently the only Seasonal Event in FFXIV that Ipay attention to (the rest I skip cutscenes, get the reward and then never touch again).
Last year we got two minions, two orchestrion rolls, the dyed bladder of an animal to dazzle us and "sparkler" items.

Only SE knows which number is greater: the players asking for the item to be added or those still playing who had earned it back in 1.0. Considering the items are being added, I suspect the latter is the smaller group.

As someone else said earlier in the thread, people need to stop clinging to items as a source of validation and start getting their validation from what they accomplish.

Are the items a memento of what was achieved? Sure. My Lifebinder's Handmaiden in WoW reminds me that I was part of one of the only three raid teams on my little RP server to clear Heroic Dragon Soul before the MoP pre-launch patch was released.

That achievement can't be taken away from me. Someone else who outlevels and outgears the content can faceroll their way through all the Heroic Dragon Soul bosses tomorrow and get the mount, and it still doesn't change what I accomplished over 6 years ago. I'm happy they're able to get something they want to have. Their access to the mount now doesn't invalidate what I had already done.

Things don't mean anything in the long run. Things are too easily replaced or lost or destroyed. It's what you do that's important.

Congrats to those who killed Nael before Dalamud fell. No one can take that accomplishment away from you.

But throwing a temper tantrum because someone else gets to have a copy of a now useless pair of earrings that you already have? That's just stupid.

So maybe, based on the information about the event and level sync, the real pinnacle fight will be a similar one to 1.0. That would be nice, since it would let us experience something similar and get a similar reward. That would invalidate a lot of the complaining of "they're giving away muh earrings for FREEEEEEE"

No doubt the 1.0 purists will still be upset because "it's not 100% exactly like the 1.0 fight, therefore you didn't earn it." With the exception of ultimate, everything in this game is made easier and more attainable over time. That's just the way it works. You can think other players didn't "earn it", all you want, but I promise you, they don't care one shred about your feelings toward them.

In all honesty, we should really be thankful that we HAVE a game with five years of strong history to look back fondly upon!

I'd actually say Blizz actually does things way more properly. They have AoTC and things like Legendary Cloak/Ring/Grove Warden/Violet Spellwing, feats for realm first, etc that have timestamps that they don't give away after the fact. Not that they're perfect, I'm sure some things have slipped through (Black Market). Some of this stuff is sold, but so were these earrings on my server at least.

You would have an achievement with a timestamp when you couldn't faceroll Dragon Soul, someone who does it now would have the date now, which you can differentiate easily by linking.

Sure, it doesn't matter since it's a game, etc. Some people just have sentimental value in items and stuff like that, even in RL.

Looking at the JP thread, mostly the same agreement/disagreements as here.

Granted that is the case and a promise was broken, and as you have mentioned yourself it was a means of enticing loyal customers/subscribers back into playing the game (or someone else did). It is a business after all. Not to mention a lot changes over a 6 year period(Don't even bother bringing up the auto-demolition of housing that was an inevitability, many quit the game, and some often permanently, and you'd expect them to keep a house when it's a limited resource) .

I may/not need to state this directly to you, but broken promises aside (from 6 years ago), why not withhold any unnecessary judgement you may have on their decision (to use the earrings over something original and still commemorative like a Wind-up Nael, or a Dalamud mount), until the event itself is live and we've experienced it. It could be something special that still recognises the achievements of those that supported the game and experienced the fight.

I'm not going to argue whether they should call it a replica or not because all that will happen after the near-distant passing of this event is people, including many 1.0 folk will do what they done before, long before the event, is stick it in a retainer and then just use it for the sake of complaint when the time comes. Those people in my onion lose the right to complain as they're doing it for the sake of it. Granted there are people I'm sure that have used this as glamour as it's that special to them, but those I'm fairly certain I can count using 1 hand.

The latter I wasn't even going to question as I understand that side of the argument, people did lose sleep over it, I'm sure, but those are the people when this is all said and done will have experienced the fight in it's true glory, and those will still be the only people that can tell that story. I can't, nor can any peers entering in 2.x and beyond.

Again, If it ends up on the store, or if other non-commemorative items like the tattoo find itself in the mainstream, or on the Mogstation, then sure there's something wrong with that

No, no... I think you are doing that yourself. It has nothing to do with Yoshida-san at all.

Getting upset over RENTED PIXELS (you don't own them, learn to understand the TOS you agree to when you play the GAME) is highly amusing for grown adults. Really.

Barring some individuals, I doubt this is a case of legacy players being "entitled". This is a case of SE devaluing any kind of effort you want to put in this game.
This is saying to me: "Don't bother working towards anything since you'll just get it for free later on." Getting good gear only for it to mean nothing a couple months later is bad enough already, but if they're just going to give out a reward from a hard piece of content available only to people who stuck around during its last days for free, then what's off limits?
If they just made a duplicate of the item and stuck the name "replica" in front then I doubt that this kind of uproar would happen to begin with. Instead this was a conscious decision by the dev team to include this item. They were aware of what it took to get the reward but they put it in anyway.

It doesn't seem like the inclusion is having any kind of positive impact on the community. The reveal is only causing disagreements and "oh cool more ugly glamour i guess" to people who were unaware of the item.

Not to mention it's inspiring epic pranksters like this guy:

I value something because *I* value it. I worked hard to get it at the time. It has, then, value 'TO ME'. I don't need the game company to further assign value to it. I'm an adult able to do this and not need to lord these things over others to get through my life and be happy. I don't determine my worth and value by what I have over what others have. I'm thrilled and consider my Fenrir a trophy, even if the MGP was 'easier to get' than when Manderville was first released.

So. Releasing these Anniversary Earrings is going to 'devalue' the hard work and effort people put in to earn the old ones?

The only reason any value is assigned to it in the end is you put it there. Pixels are pixels. A game is a game. Regardless of 'he said she said' it comes down to what value you place on a thing. And if you, personally, decide that other people having something now makes your thing 'not good anymore' that says something about you and how you value things. And that is not the responsibility of a company or other people. That is for you to deal with. No one can take away that you got to participate in the actual Calamity. Other people having an Anniversary Item, same name or not, doesn't effect that. If you somehow feel it does... that's an issue for you to deal with, not Yoshida, the developers, SE or anyone else on these Forums.

Because then people would still feel like special bunnies so it's ok, even though all they've done with the item since getting it is stuck it in a retainer and forgot about it until now, just for a means of causing outrage, or complaining. Calling it a replica or not doesn't change a thing if individual players do nothing with them

I think it is bad to desire to own every single item in the game, even exclusive rewards. I know some people have OCD about that and I'm also sometimes feel like that but really, we should restrain ourselves a little. Those were a reward, and not even regular reward but exceptionally rare reward to loyal players from 1.0 and simultaneously to the best at the time. It should stay rare, that was the point of it.

PS: I joined in 2.0 and have zero interest in this, but demands to give everyone everything are getting more and more ridiculous.

I'm a 1.0 character, who's not Legacy and doesn't have the White Ravens and I don't think we should get them now either.

If we didn't do that fight then, why should we get them now? As much as 2.0 is different to 1.0, it's still the same game. The story followed on, all our characters migrated... why take away their achievement and now just give it to anyone who's level 15 who spends 10 minutes on the upcoming event?

The only thing they could have done to make this worse would have been to put them on the Mogstation.

the only time i feel like legacy players should get salty is if they gave the discount to every single player, the tattoo and achievements. other then that, pixels, are pixels its a small item most people dont even care to look at, besides that waiting on more 1.0 items to be added and then to watch even more salt flow

So nothing should have any intrinsic value then? Nothing should have any kind of scarcity or value that creates some kind of inherent desire for people to obtain?

Imagine you just spent 3 months progging UWU for 14 hours a day for 7 days every week. You finally clear and a week later Yoshi turns around and says "actually we're giving everyone a free UWU title and every weapon." Would you be annoyed or would you just shrug and go "at least I get to tell people about how I watched the same fight over and over". You'd be annoyed, wouldn't you? And don't even try to say you wouldn't. t's human nature to want to have something rare. If they just gave out something you put effort into to other people for absolutely nothing you'd feel a little cheated and a bit silly, right?

I'm not a not a 1.0 player nor do I speak for them, but if I were to put in some effort to complete a difficult end-game fight for a rare reward which was promised to remain exclusive only for them to turn around a few years later and say "actually nah", then that'd feel like a bit of a slap in the face wouldn't it? People need to stop comparing this to UWU or frankly any current content, given that there is no guarantee that UWU will remain rare, especially when you factor in that some level of unsync could be introduced in the following expansion, so they will then be relatively common, particularly granted that the new expansion is likely to have changes made that won't balance level 70 particularly well (Possible, not guaranteed). So in this case comparing a sidequest item in 1.x is fundamentally wrong. Not to mention it is an item worth commemorating.

It's entirely possible that the dev team who said "you only have a limited time to get these rewards before the server shuts down and the fight will be done" truly did believe it. They may not even be the same team that worked on ARR. So in a sense, they'd be right. So far as they knew, these things would never have been made available again.

Although it seems like right now, these earrings are a dividing issue, I believe the intent was to help bring the 1.0 and 2.0 players together in a way that would be meaningful to both.

well Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XIV are whole different games, even parts like a story and others... im really upset of people telling that because Square-Enix couldnt bring this original to ps3, which was planned, so we PS players couldnt do anything in that original. i think its just wrong from PC players to act like this, grow up

Fans, a much MUCH larger segment of the base that SE would like to please and work with, have asked for a re-visit to some of this old content. And while they can not do all of it, they would like to celebrate what they can. A large Anniversary like this... they are doing it in this manner. As I have stated before, the fanbase that is now the priority to the company, ones with higher value logically and economically, have put in repeated requests. And a large company is going to look to answering the larger and more economically sound segment. They can't just open up old-school code-servers pre-Calamity like WoW has. So they are doing Anniversary Events and little surprises. The 'promise of exclusivity' was made years ago and the larger company can look at it and go 'that was then, a larger fanbase has requested something different' and move forward with a different business approach. Legacy Players have set rewards that, legitimately, should not be touched. Other than that, the company can go back at any time to re-evaluate their business approach and the wider market and answer to it.
