Hello! I'm here to support this iniciative. Not all the people is bilingual, so i hope SE take seriously this post.
I think SE can benefit about this.
I grew up speaking both English and Spanish, and support what this thread is hoping to accomplish.
Well, I'm one of those who would love the game translated to Spanish. My first language is also Spanish and even though I know sufficient English to understand the main idea of story line, it is true that sometimes I have a hard time trying to understand some of the advance words that are used. I support the letter of hope and from my heart thank you for starting it the petition. From my point of view I wouldn't mind if the change it or not since I can go through the game without it. However for my friends and for some people out there that are having difficulties or would like to play it but because of the language they can't, I support this letter 100%.
For some of you and you will know who you are, seriously stop just playing selfish. Everything with you is all me me me me. Stop one second and think about it in this way, what about if you had to learn Spanish to actually play a game. And yes we reply in English because how the hell will you non-Spanish speaker will understand us? And we are talking for those who can't write in English duh. Wow people... some common sense here and humanity please! We are lacking so much in the world to bring it in to the game too? We are not only speaking for us, we are spreading the voice for our non-English speaker friends too and the ones we will not meet because of the Spanish translation. Also I'm pretty sure that as selfish as you sound you probably play selfishly too. Guess what this is a game to play as a team not as one and it is very sad that you think that way. Thinking of others is the key to success in many things in life even in a game. Learn that or just go to an Island by yourself and let the ones who really work to grow together as a whole be able to stay away from you.
I'm not spanish and I support this !
Mychael it is so sad that you belong to Selbina , I want you in Palamecia lol. You are too funny and cool.
I agree with you and it was also my motivation to post something here everything that I have been hearing in against the petition has been selfish thoughts. Nothing of reasoning related to others instead it is just about them.
Nice to meet ya Mychael ^_^
Hey vax, I'm Cuban. If you have heard the news or are very interested about others well being, politics, economy etc.. you actually will know that Cuba is in much much worse conditions at the moment than Argentina. You know what? The few ones that actually can afford to play it, why not??? and why does it have to be about you?? Is a game for EVERYONE not about you or me. I live in USA and if there is someone that can actually afford or access ffxiv, which by the way I'm 100% sure that no one can't because internet access it is actually banned from the country because Fidel castro, I wouldn't mind. Way to go. Another one that proves that is a loner. You are in the wrong game.
I still think the game should be translated into Spanish. Thanks to Nintendo have in Spanish from FFI to FFVI. FFVII to FFXIII-2 are all in Spanish (Less FFXI. Many things I missed Vana'diel!).
Agree that the voices are in English but the texts, it is essential that we have in our language. When I play FFXIV, I have to stop to understand what is happening. If I'm playing with English players, I can not stop to translate what happens in the game.
Unfortunately, Spain is not like other countries where English is treated as the native language. Perhaps we can open a debate on the need to learn English, but we're talking about a game. If FFXIV was in Spanish, more Spanish would play. Many of them will not buy it because it is not translated. If Square-Enix is waiting to see how it sells FFXIV v.2, and I can assure you that had it not Spanish, not sell.
Guild war 2 will be released in Spanish from the first day, because this company is considered with the Spanish community. Square-Enix is one of the great. They could also do it.
Hopefully version 2 can read it in my language.
According to (http://www.ethnologue.com) there are 358 million people speaking Spanish as a native language and a total of 417 million speakers worldwide. This is a great chunck of the world, so I think SE should have considered spanish as part of the language group in the game. To alienate this part of the population is neglectable at least. I'm sure SE has its reason, but in a global economy and market it doesn't makes sense to not have included spanish in the game.
Final Fantasy XIV can not compete in the Spanish market against games like Guild Wars 2 that are translated into Spanish. S-E still does not say anything about the possible translation in version 2
I know I might upset some people with my opinion, but I'm against a spanish version as much as i'm against a french or german version.
FFXIV is an international MMO and I understand that there are people that can't speak english - but running around in Eorzea being able to play and communicate with a minority kinda destroys the purpose of the game.
I'm german myself and I've seen these problems in XI and XIV, people are playing the game solo/in their small community and can't join groups shouting for something because they simply can't talk to them.
Of course there is the auto-translator, but it has limits and people are afraid of using it.
We could as well have regional servers for every language then, as the multilanguage version splits the community in some way.
I also don't think your arguments are valid, don't count the spanish speaking people in the world, count the spanish speaking gamers instead - and 99% of the spanish speaking people i met were from spain.
I think, dear Gentaro, that you didn’t understand the main purpose of this request… Hispanics are not looking for an easier way to communicate to other players in game; they are actually asking this to understand the game itself better.
Final Fantasies games are well known to be rich in content and to have tons of NPCs with lot of (relevant or not) text to be read. My English is far from perfect but still isn't that bad… and even though, is really hard sometimes because of the way that is spoken and the huge amount of text that it has, just make it easy to lose lot of details.
Hispanic people want to understand and enjoy the game the same way that English (Japanese, French or German) native speakers do.
Our community knew/knows this is really a difficult request to handle by SE at this point or in the future -- because of the workload that represent 2.0 and all the numbers that a lot of people pointed before-- but hope should be the last thing to be lost... is better to lose trying, than losing because you didn't do it~
Anyway, maybe someday I can see this game that I love so much, en español también. :)
What purpose are u talking about? I talk Spanish and I can play perfectly with English speaking people and that increases the "purpose of the game". Meeting people from different parts of the world is really interesting for the community. So, if u don't wanna play with people that can't understand your language is your problem, the solution is simple, dont play with them. But if some people want the game in Spanish they are on their right to ask for it to a better understanding of the game.
Oh, and sorry for destroy your purpose of the game cuz I don't speak English >.>
With FFXIV 2.0 coming out in China, they will probably make a Mandarin version. After all, it's the #1 most spoken language in the world.
As much as I think about this controversy, I can not help the fact hallucinate see how a company like Square-Enix is ignoring the Spanish community, while NCFOST are betting from the beginning for us, translating into Spanish Guild Wars 2 and even opening a dedicated server to Spain. I love Final Fantasy, but I think the Spanish have to be objective and clap and go for those who are betting on us.
Final Fantasy XIV: A real reborn will be a great game, but if I agreed to play in English, when another company if they are translating their games into my language, I'll only be complicit in this discrimination.
I will continue pending the news, hoping to soon see a notice on the Spanish translation. But I not pay fees if version 2 is not in my language.
^^^^^^^^^^
This so much.
I am Spanish and I have no problem playing in English, in fact I prefer it, but I've been trying to get my girlfriend and some friends to play the game and, as they don't know very well English, German, French or Japanese, they cannot enjoy the game, so they are no longer playing it, because this game has a LOT of text, and interesting at that.
Square would be winning a lot of Spanish subscribers if they offered a Spanish version of the game, I know a lot of people love Final Fantasy in Spain but they are not playing the game because of the language barrier, the same happened with FFXI.
The strange thing is that every other FF released in Spain has gotten a translation, so we really don't understand why XI and XIV don't get their localization.
Yea it is very strange nowadays for a game to not have a spanish version.
Mandarin is coming for sure.
Would be great if they add Spanish to the game after this ..I'd like to see Arabic next , world's fifth speaking language (my language =D).
Being Mexican myself I'd love to have a Spanish version of the game, that being said I'd like the development team to know it wouldn't be that easy, first of all there's several "versions" or "kinds" of Spanish, even if latin-american people and european spanish speaking people can communicate with each other some words or slang specific to that region makes it difficult to standardize just ONE kind of Spanish or to come up with a neutral Spanish; even if you somehow manage to make a neutral translation there's gonna be some phrases or word games that will not translate accurately enough and I believe the same applies when they make the translation from Japanese to English.
If the development team manages to get the authorization to translate the game I'd like it to be from Japanese to Spanish directly to preserve the original feeling and intention.
I'd even go as far as to raise my hand to participate in the translation FOR FREE if that means I'd get the whole game in Spanish, I speak/read/write a decent amount of Japanese too if that helps ( ^-^)v
Honestly, Square-Enix should clarify its position. They are being ambiguous with statements like "we will study." They already know what they do and what they estimated the Spanish community. Let them say whether they will translate the game or not, so that affected users take the appropriate decision.
Sorry for the necro-bump but I have posted a question/request regarding this on the letter to the producer live event that's supposed to happen after the servers shut down on the 11th. Judging by this thread, I'm not the only one that's wanting to see this game in Spanish (I am bilingual so I can play in English just fine but would rather experience it in Spanish).

Give it a "Like" to show SE we are still serious about this! :)
Hmm, every client is the same.
Maybe asking if the new client support spanish language? ^^
I'm a native Spanish speaker as well, and while I absolutely abhor most Spanish translations (especially Spanish as in actually from Spain *shudders*), I believe it would be really nice for a great deal of players around the world. Some of my friends, RL ones especially, have had a pretty hard time with the game because of that language barrier.
(Also, how it is translated into German yet not Spanish is beyond me)
I'm Italian, and honestly I'd hate for SE to waste resources to translate the game in my language. Their Italian translations are unsightly anyway.
To be completely honest, people, I feel the focus should be elsewhere. In this day and age if you aren't fluent in English, you should *really* learn it. And playing games in English is a good way to start.
That's how I started when I was 6, and localizations didn't exist.
Yeah same here. A lot of my Spanish speaking friends have a functioning level of English, but not the kind of level needed to enjoy some of the lore (especially the pirate lingo in Limsa lol). Would love to have them be able to play this game and enjoy it in a language they can comprehend better.
Hahaha! Too true too true. I just about died when one of the elf pirates called me a "tosspot", then when I repeated in my linkshell everybody was like, "Huh?"
to distant people with dedicated server? are you serious whith what are you saying?
People will choose what to do, and MMO uses to make people together, take a look on linkshells and actual servers. Why most of Ragnarok is spanish?
To have another language doesn't make people dsitant within them, just help people that can't understand the story to be abble to enjoy it. English speakers don't have any trouble with others because their languaje is used to mediate within other languages.
Don't you use autotranslate when you can't talk with someone with another languaje that you not even understand?
Like some japanese players that don't speak english at all. Do you think all people have english notions?
I'm sure you enjoy playing with all, and language
All the spanish people I know that want to play it and don't do it is because they don't like to play non translated games.
Most of spanish players not play a non translated Offline RPG because story is 100% for RPG players.
Most of the spanish comunity playing here, have low english or none, and are helped by the ones that understand better.
You can ask any other player if not noticed when a spanish is within them when playing.
And about sales, you have only to ask anyone of your friends why they played WoW instead FFXI.
Quality? Let me laugh.
