If it already existed and came to the game. It's old content and not new, it may be "new" to a new player. But it's still old. Also..why make an event where it gives the same exact items when you can just worry about making a new event with new items and putting the old stuff in the cash shop so the focus can go to where it needs to be?

I would rather have old stuff that was once obtainable in cash shop than new stuff unobtainable in game at all.
ALSO I dont honestly know, why you have even made this thread... why are you so surprised at all? If you are playing from 2013 you should already know how cash shop looks.

All the dungeons in the game are old, let's get rid of those. Coil is old AND outdated, let's get rid of that. In fact, let's get rid of everything that isn't the latest and hardest raid and have ONLY that in the game; everything else can be bought from the shop.

3. OP makes the stance that people are paying month to month ( in their place) for this content to never reach the cash shop.

I agree. We pay enough for the sub & xpacs. Why would you even want to think about putting simple things like emotes up for sale? >.< Selling mounts I can understand (though i'd rather do quests to get those), but emotes and clothes? wtf. lol

I'm paying monthly with the intention of not having to pay extra for vanity stuff, a cash shop belong in a F2P business model, it has no place in the P2P business model.

I'm glad it's in cash shop vs me never having a chance to get it since I missed the last summer event.

You know, last year's moon faire was perfect. I had the opportunity to buy the old elusive speedos with cheap priced gil AND enjoy new glamour content. It made the event really special to me, personally, since I been hoping to obtain it since it's ps3 launch. It felt like a reward for playing the game without feeling like my subscription is devalued.

I understand SE wants to make extra money on top of the expensive subscription, but I feel like charging old rewards is counterproductive to their main goal of appeasing to the casual player market. I know there are some hardcore people who prefer time barriers and the original conditions of coil to remain unchanged so that they can feel special, and only them. If you don't give other people a chance to feel the same, the retention rates of subscriptions from the majority would be lowered dramatically. That's less funds to make more content just to make 5 extra dollars in the long term.

That's the issue. Everyone wanted vanity look pretty. This is why stuff like this has gone way out of control.

I don't like the cash shop either. However, I think the justification for having the emote and yukatas, etc. in the cash shop is that they continue to release new items and content each year for all the holidays as opposed to just having the same content and same items every year.

EXACTLY. It is what I have said earlier in this thread and on XIV's facebook pages. If they want the same gear and events like WOW, then they would have to stop complaining that the Devs rehash the same event and awards every year. I prefer to have to buy it for 1 - 3 euros instead and get new events and rewards.

And people who say the subscription is expensive, HOW do you manage to live 30 days pr month if this is expensive? I pay 180 days at once making it 7.99 Euros monthly as I also have the Legacy deal.

It also seems like people do not understand that they dont pay a subscription to not have to get cashshops ingame, but quite simply, be allowed access to the servers. In F2P MMOs, they have way higher prices for vanity, emotes, bagspace, extra action bars, gated content, and much else. I remember I spent maybe 200€ in 1 week on LoL on characters and skins xD

We are talking about content that came as seasonal content. Content that are only ingame for a specific limited time and not again anymore. Because next year it will be another content and not the same content. Or have you seen last christmas some FATEs with a christmas treant and a snowman?

I hope you see that your example is not fitting in any way.

For everyone who dislike seasonal events in cash shop, show it to SE with not buying anything from it and by doing every coming seasonal event.

Right! Not to mention a lot of people griped about the yukatas and bomb dance. Not to mention it's only 2 bucks! That's sooo cheap compared to every other mmo.

No matter what SE does people will complain.

If SE made these items/emotes/etc from special events openly available for free at any time outside the events, people would complain "Why even do the events, these items or not rare or special at all, we can just get them any time!" Or maybe "I was there for the event, it's not fair people who weren't even subbed at the time can get these items so easily!"

Now if SE made the same items able to be gotten every year for these events, people would complain "Omg SE never gives us anything new! They just rehash the stuff from the old events, it's so lazy!"

So SE gives us new/different stuff each event but still makes old event stuff able to be gotten a year later by paying practically pennies. Then people complain "Omg SE is such greedy bastards charging for this content! It should be free!"

My opinion? I was there for the event, so I got it for "free" through gameplay making them special for me. However if you weren't like me, and were not subbed/did not own the game and did not participate in the events, I think it's completely fair that to get them you have to pay extra. I paid for those items with my sub, you pay for them too. :v

Seriously get over it.

They are a business. If they stopped trying to earn money, we wouldn't have a game. Be happy if they are successful financially, it means a better game for us all. You don't even need to contribute extra by paying for optional items. Optional is optional.

Back to the discussion, I'm fine with phantasia being in the cash shop, they give out like one free phantasia as veteran rewards. I'm fine with the marriage kit in the cash shop, Those are understandable new content. I'm fine with name change fees. World transfer fees are Bleh, but whatever. But old content previously available for "free" but now added as micro- transactions? That seems way too different and irksome to me

I don't know how people got the assumption that without charging previous free content, SE would have no budget at all to develop new seasonal content... As far as I can tell, there is no crown on the topic. No one from the higher ups release officially a spreadsheet showing the percentage of profits from previous event micro transaction earnings being assigned to fund which holiday content development.

Of course SE is a business. We all know that. But they have a reputation to keep. Notice how many pages this topic has? The impact with the subscribers is undeniable.

I find it funny how when the cash shop was added most people were totally fine with it. I was in the minority that was against the cash shop completely.
But everyone else was like, "It's more money for SE to put into the game... It's not Pay to Win.... I'm fine with it if its strictly vanity items..."

Honestly, if you want it that bad buy it. In fact I'm sure a lot of people will eventually give in and buy the stuff they want. And there's nothing wrong with that, because it is true that's its vanity items that doesn't effect your gameplay, only enhances your immersion. We live in an age of gaming where pretty much all games have micro transactions in some way, hardly any game comes out now with EVERYTHING included in the game. There's always DLC packs or new skins etc..

The time to have banded together against the cash shop has sadly passed so either embrace it or ignore it, simple as that.

Why does everyone keep calling it content? It doesn't progress your character at all. All it gives you is a vanity item (set) for literally little to no work whatsoever. The problem is people don't understand that Seasonal items are limited items available for a short period of time. Hell, some MMOs are like, "Oh you missed the event? Too bad." Having the same items every year is dumb. You put up a Seasonal Event, only like 3 or 4 people do the event while the other 99% of the server completely ignores it all together. Buy it or don't, who cares. People expect to get everything when that never happens in any MMO. It is impossible to have every item in the game..

You can only buy the rewards of old contents (Yukata 2014), not the old contents itself (summer event 2014 wih all the mini games)

Vanity is content. People care about vanity. If it wasn't content, I suppose you'd be perfectly content playing the game wearing some grey cubes?

These sort of event rewards aren't even exclusives. Speak out because it's an emote? It's the last of your worries, and shouldn't even be a concern because you feel a type of higher right to have something someone can't feasibly get anytime soon

I'd speak out if the shit they were selling were Legacy Character Tattoos!

Or it's all the people who still hate it and the people who don't/didn't care are going about their business? I don't see why it wouldn't just still be more of the same crowd coming to reinforce the hate over people jumping the fence. And really, if it was a silly emote that broke your resolve, then you weren't really for it/didn't care about it at all anyway, just thinly veiled your hate with some sense of being cool or something stupid like that.

What the hell? The emote costs only 1.15 and you're already complaining? That emote came from an event from last year. It's a totally optional item that, along with the rest of the items that are sold in the cash shop, does not affect your gameplay in any way. You don't have to buy it if you don't want to.

How is that exactly anyways I hear it alot. Glamor and Vanity are part of the game as much as raiding is.

That's like selling coil clears on the cash shop and if I was soley focused on crafting/gathering it has no "Effect on my gameplay experience" If I am a player who finds things like glamors and vanity to be a big part of my gameplay experience because I enjoy making the perfect character (I'm not personally but hey, this game should be fair for everyone) having event items locked away behind a pay wall would drive me insane. Christ I'd rather them make the items totoally exclusive to the events and not re-release them if they refuse to sell them on a vendor every year, because then there is a REAL sense of exclusivity and not make me feel like people are looking at me with my full valentinions set wondering how much cash I shelled out for it.

Making certain items rare and elusive is a really cool thing I enjoyed in many games I've played. Christ in Ultima Online I specialized in special exclusive and glitched items that had a huge market due to just being hard to get your hands on. I ran a gallery for the stuff it was pretty cool.

The obvious best choice for players is that they re-release these items on vendors as they did previously there is no player centric reason we should support the removal of this content from the game to be placed behind a paywall.

Only thing I have against cash shop is that gold saucer has very little items to obtain when many of the items from the cash shop could be poured into prizes pool. If not end the cash shop maybe just add the items in there also. It's still going to be a grind to obtain everything via gold saucer anyways, so for those who are impatient and must have random said item now can just outright buy it.

Because we are NOT nickeled and dimend on top of paying a subscription.
The items give no sort of advantage, they are just vanity, you lose NOTHING by not getting them. And if you really really really really want them, you can.

If that's the case, you might as well get rid of the whole cash shop completely and sell the entire selection on the vendor as well. Since there's no reason we should have anything behind a paywall.

Every item in the cash shop is already in the game. The money you spend on it simply "unlocks" the item for your use. Meaning: your subscription fee already paid for the creation of the item, it's already been bought and paid for with the sub fee.

Paying a dollar here, a dollar there to unlock something already in the game is the very definition of "nickel and dimed".

Vanity is content, content shouldn't be sold in a P2P game.

It's in the game, it's content, simple as is, WE ARE being nickeled and dimend.

It means SE doesn't even have to bother to make new content for the cash shop, they can always wait for the next event and "New Cash shop items available!".
