I remember when I used to play FFXI on my ps2, then I got the xbox 360 and pc without having many issues of everyone playing together from different consoles/pc.

The biggest disappointment in this I think is with the marriage system. It's already unforgiving to begin with, but now, all those people that were scheduled for the times this DDoS attack has been going on......they can't get married. They're likely to get penalized too. Mine is supposed to be around 1am on Monday, so I'm freaking out because I may not get married. When two people have very tight schedules, and can only do this at certain times, stuff like this really crushes the spirit. I try to be a nice person, but I hope each and every one of Lizard Squad suffers a painful and excruciating experience that teaches them they shouldn't fuck with people that did nothing to them.

Yeah, mine is Sunday. A day after our actual Anniversary. Hope it comes back up by then...

I think the worst part about it is at first they claim it's for laughs, and then they rally behind the whole "they need to improve their security" excuse. It took an outside force to bribe them to stop, and that's if they don't go back on their word. They even had the audacity to say we should thank them because corporations don't pay taxes and they should be taking better care of us. If it wasn't for people like them, there wouldn't be a problem. All they did was punish innocent children who wanted to play games they got as gifts on Christmas, and punished the hard working adults who play games to unwind and get a little enjoyment in their free time. Who are they to dictate what is justifiable?

They are trash. Took a payoff in place of whatever stupid ideology they stood for. They just ended up being a nuisance to a lot of people.

My laptop can't run as good as the PS3 version of ffxiv. It's alot more laggy framey.

I know this is not Square Enix fault.... But if this problem persist, i won't be able to cap Poetics for this week. Thanks to Christmas celebrations and stuff, i don't even have the half of them.

Can i use an existent account with the free trial period for PC?

If SE was not so in love with daily/weekly lockouts, situations like this would not create such player anxiety.

The irony of it all is that Sony demands the continual authentication in part for security/anti-piracy reasons... and then the parent company gets hacked wide open like they were still running Windows for Workgroups.

... or maybe Tragedy is a better word for it.

If Sony was a decent company with outstanding service, top-of-the-line hardware, and a less anal about their own privacy policy, situations like this would not create such player anxiety.

I was referring to plants also. I consider them part of the daily/weekly checklist. In any case, needing to log into the game on a routine basis to not fall behind or to get bonuses can create a pattern of addictive behavior and then when an addict (and I'm including myself in this) can't get their "fix" it causes depression and anxiety. Maybe DDoS attacks are not SE's fault but I'd love it if you could make up missing a day or two by playing more on different days. I don't expect SE to change their current system but I hope there is less time-dependent content released in the future.

A large part of the problem is the nature of the service itself... it pretty much prevents them from implementing a lot of the countermeasures that we can use at home. Things like blocking pings, strong filtering/restrictions on half-open connections, etc... could cause even more connectivity issues for our clients.

They can't necessarily trace back to the source IP's to block them either (and if they could, you are talking a huge bot-net for these things, not just a couple hundred systems). If they are using the SYN flood exploit, the originating IP in the headers is spoofed. That's how they seize the socket up. They flood it with handshakes that fail because of the fake IP and the protocol is waiting for the final step to establish the connection, so you effectively clog the pipes with half-open connections. Hardware firewalls can mitigate it to some extent... under the normal everyday fishing attempts to try to find a vulnerable IP address, that is. When it is ramped up to the order of magnitude involved here it can overwhelm the processing power of those firewalls, essentially doing the same thing but instead of choking the servers they are choking the appliances trying to protect them.

The Problem is NO one have the money for that, they mostly just buy the needed capacity and not more to keep profit maximised. Microsoft, well, I am pretty sure they taken some resources from other "services" to save xbox and thats compared to sony a bit of cheating, sony does not have such other "services" as microsoft. Futermore, because those "other services" its is harder to track all of microsoft servers for attacks...

it's a fairly safe bet sony will come up with some sort of temporary offer to compensate for the outage.
problem is these sorts of offers are usually aimed at their largest demographic and unlikely to interest the sort that enjoys an ff mmorpg... :(

Their last tweet was, all systems are slowly coming back online. I did get on this morning.

Finally managed to relog back in to my PSN account after few days. I'm still unable to play FF XIV tho due to error code (NP-36147-1) that jumps on the screen when starting the game. Gonna try if anything else works.

EDIT: yup just tested few other online games and they work just fine. This is driving me crazy.

I'm getting the same error as you boss. =_= What's new on the PS4 main screen works but I also get the error when I try to access the store. It's barely even 7 am EST...

Edit: Nvm it seems like What's New loaded when I managed to momentarily connect to their servers. It's not loading again for me.

Same here my other games are fine. If my plants die I'm going to be pissed, SE should have designed some kind of switch they can activate when there are widespread, persistent access issues which place a hold on plants needing watering. It's not fair for me to lose several hundred thousand gi because I can't water stuff that I planted before this happened. The DDoS attacks might not be SE's fault, but the fact that crops which involve a lot of investment can easily die and cause the loss of those invested resources is 100% within SE's control.

Thing is, Sony has not been keeping anyone up to date on what is going on, and a good amount of time that the servers were down they were under maintenance by Sony! I am WELL aware of what a DDOS attack is, FF under went a few last month, the difference is they had their shit together and kept us up to date. The only bit of information that I have gotten from Sony is "The PlayStation Network is currently: Offline"

Yeah~ Microsoft servers went down for a few hours~ and they have been back up since. Regretting making fun of my brother for being a Microsoft fanboy now!

Believe me, I know its not their fault that its happened, but it is their fault that I need to log into PSN to play FF in the first place~ Or I guess I shouldn't have trusted them with my money since they can't seem to provide me with the service I pay for! Should have gone PC.

I'd very much love to see where they've been keeping people up to date, because I have not found it on any of their sites~ Even the support forums were down for a while!

The only reason I knew about the DDOS was because of IGN and news blogs! That should not be~
