The things that made FFXI awesome that should come to FFXIV:
Nation rivalry for control of the map.
More interaction with the authority and government of each nation.
Dangerous non-instanced dungeons that can be used for leveling, exploring, farming, or housing giant monsters.
Interesting equipment with ambiguous aspects (give people more to play with for discussion, theories, and personal preference)
Monsters that will chase you clear out of a zone (not all, but some should)
Player ability coordination (not skill chains, but something reasonably similar to reward extra coordinated efforts)
Whole zones that you can only get to on foot or by chocobo.
A central hub city.
