At the very least I think they should increase the limit to be a 90 day period. I think it's sufficient enough if people just simply want a break. Beyond that I think is unreasonable given that housing is currently a limited resource under their current system.
I don't really think people should be keeping a house or be able to keep a house if they play perhaps for a couple of weeks every 6-7 months.
The problem was housing was designed for a very community focussed game. where groups of players would form free companies and build houses and run contents unlock big FC perks like the ability to summon a primal and change the sky when you did.. your FC summoned Ifrit in the shorud,, the sky across the shroud would be set ablaze in flames. or any number of other FC based content or activities building stronger bonds between members.
However FFXIV is not community focussed it's very much solo focussed. and for that reason most Free companies fell apart.. there was no FC content, no large scale group activiites that everyone could be included in. everything was either 4 or 8 people and as such it drove wedges between players and pushed them apart. This is why Free companies have basically been nothing more than a glorified chat channel basically for ever.
So then smaller groups of playersstarted making smaller fcs but these smaller fcs with only 4 or 6 members couldn't afford to buy a fc house even if they wanted one and thats why the wards were so empty... They were designed to build and foster a community or neighbourhood in a game that does everything it can to discourage group play and be a single player rpg..
you cant even do the msq with friends game will shout at you. "you can't progress because you're in a party" even if everyone is on the same quest... even the duty finder.. because if the game was built around communities and groups the duty finder would be dead. people would only ever play with there friends or fcs.
if the game encouraged and promoted group play and actually designed content for FC's and stuff to do toghether (i mean it is an MMO) instead of trying to be a single player game.. I'd honestly bet there would be no housing criss. but to try and push a community feature in a solo orientated game...was doomed straight away..
The demo system sucks though it has spent more time out of action than it has in action. So it really doesn't help anyone. It's been suspended 7 times that i could find 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
I'm all for removing houses from long term inactive players but honestly they need a system that works and a system that falls in line with Yoshi-P repeated comments along the lines of "it's ok for players to take breaks and go play other things they won't lose anything for doing so."
add a leasing system or something make players pay a rent of some form. that way they could pay say a maximum 6 months rent. and take a break till the next patch drops..
an upkeep cost might also encourage people with a house they never use to let it go to someone who will..
that's just 1 idea. there have been dozens of ideas better than this bs demo that we got that doenst work half the time anyway
So its ok for you and others like you to imply I have no empathy, but how dare I say the same of you?
This thread has been a kinda funny. All the people who own houses but never use them all pile on with concern trolling "oh how DARE he! Gasp, I need a fainting couch!"
Every time this topic comes up, people like you freak out cause that thing you did a long time ago that you no longer use is in danger. Most of the people against demo timers here? They honestly wouldn't even know they lost their house.
Let cut politic out of this
This entire Ukraine war is just 2 men sacrifice innocent people’s life for their own political gain.
Both are evil and already reserved their spot in the hell
YoshiP does still make promises, just not to the extent he used to because the game is now a whole another beast compared to 2013. Everything changes over time. From a business aspect they know housing is a tool to force continuous subscriptions, and the yield numbers likely back that up to keep churning more wards.
The whole thread wanting instance housing is rather wild, full of apologists that are homeless, thankfully YoshiP doesn't agree with it either because he always liked the atmosphere of hubs.
Man this is spicy
