That's an issue with all MMO's nowadays.

I believe WoTG started the decline, not abyssea and if you notice they didn't start losing clients until then. If they had kept new content coming that was on the level of CoP and ToAU it would have been better longer. Some may disagree, but the numbers support the contrary.
If the new idea is supposed to bring in a new audience where are they? Spending months killing crabs and what not, was fun, but not if that's all you did. XI had a wide range of content, clearly if i'm tired of killing crabs im going to go enjoy other things to cool down.
Ninja looting never happened to my shells, if your ls leader kept the lead and was the last one to pass on everything it didn't happen. And claim wars were fun imo, it added a lot of adrenaline to nm camping. Sure it sucked when you lost claim, but when you finally got it what beat that feeling? Competition is fun, why do you think shooters are so popular?
People like showing off their accomplishments what's wrong with that? Back when getting a class to 50 took a long time the paragon's crown would have really been something. It's like maat's cap how many were there? If you had one then you really had something to be proud of. But you put on a paragon's crown in XIV and everybody else has one too. It's like so what?
I bet if SE announed a next-gen FFXI-2 to be released at the same time XIV 2.0 is being released.. XIV would be a ghost town in comparison.. If I had a choice of FFXI-2 over 2.0.. I'd be gone in a heartbeat. XI was lightyears beyond this game's current state (although that's hardly a fair comparison given the amount of time XI has been live) and although I have my fun at times in XIV, I'm not the biggest fan of the direction it's headed in. The mainstream eas"ier"-mode type of MMO that XIV is shapping up to be definetly appeals to a wider audience, so I think it'll do OK in the long run, but I've been keeping my eyes on the horizon for something (not likely to be apart of the Final Fantasy series!) that can give me the depth and challenge of XI, while using the next-gen applications of our time. But in the meantime, I guess XIV will just have to do.
FFXI has nowhere near 500k fans. It might have had that many pple playing the game at one point but that does not qualify them as fans. A lot have moved on a long time ago and wouldn't look back, me included. Only a small percentage can be considered hardcore fans and most still play it today. Some like you are fans who would like to relive good memories they had for the sake of nostalgia. The number of so called fans that S-E needs to reward are nowhere near that number.
Also like i said, it is a bad decision to try and please even half that number of fans and by doing so turn off million of potential players because let's be honest, XI was a niche and didn't appeal to the masses. That will be a big waste of money considering that they are making the game twice now and the only way to make that money back is to bring a game that will attract a wide audience and not just XI fans.
YET.... Yet if XIV never had that shit released...
If 2.0 was the initial release of this game and you released it alongside XI-2... I think we all know the outcome
The best idea is the person who was talking about compromise
we can all play together
A new game with aspects of XI and some new innovations
New MMoers... old XI heads.. former WoW players
Why can't we all just get along?
I'm not against good things from XI, especially if it has Final Fantasy written all over it. I want XIV to more FF and that anyone can tell it is just by looking at it. At the moment, if you never heard of XI and don;t see any Mogles around then it looks like the game could have been based off of anything as far as u can tell...
Seeing as this is a FF game, there's always going to be borrowed ideas from previous versions. Why don't people understand this? That being said, I'm not looking to play a XI clone. If I wanted to play XI, I'd play it.
FFXI lovers vs FFXI haters feels like republicans vs democrats
You're not going to change each others minds... and most people are stuck in the middle...
All we want is a good game... thats it
I just want a fun game... To be fair... I think 2.0 is a major step in that direction already
I have the say this is the smartest post i've see so far in this forums. This is exactly what S-E is thinking about when they are working on XIV. We got millions of FF fans and millions of PS3 out there... now how do we get these people to buy XIV? They are not thinking about how we can make this more like XI because XI has a fans base, certainly not and that is because XI is still there and they are planning to still make money from it.
