OK, so you're missing both Enochian and Fire IV. So I'm sorry, but your observation of "I've never seen a Black Mage rip hate" is completely irrelevant.

Me too. I've seen it happen. You're also dismissing the amount of damage that the Job does. Here is a 177 page thread that may enlighten you.

Go read it again the guide specifically says that quelling strike is only used to help a tank get time to establish hate. That doesn't sound like BLM really has to hold back throughout the fight. In XI BLM could rip hate at any time if they didn't hold back sufficiently. Which is why once you got ancient magic you aimed to kill with it because if you didn't and you didn't get a resist you were dead.
BLM's only rip hate off of Tanks that can't keep up with them. Most cases due to gear. Rarely if ever does a full balls off the wall burst mode rip hate on a competent tank. Now if Hawk's Eye increased INT or ranged attacks by 15% we might have an absolute need for Quelling Strikes. But it uh doesn't.
Quelling is mainly used as a safety cushion so you ensure hate is not ripped off.
You and 14 others did not understand what he was saying.
Basically a glamour system. You select which element is damage, which element is mp, and which element is dot.
I would be ALL for it. It would make it more interesting to see BUT it causes a problem since there is no Thunder IV :(
I am against the idea of elemental glamours for Black Mage that involve switching spell animations with one another. The primary reason is from the perspective of a game designer, this makes Black Mage animations send confusing messages. For example, say you cast Thunder III glamoured to Fire III on an enemy. When I target that enemy, would that enemy have the Thunder damage over time debuff? Would players have Astral Thunder III- then how would these icons look? From the perspective of every player except the Black Mage himself, they would be very confused which stance a Black Mage is in and which spells he is actually casting.
Spell glamouring is a thing I can see happening and being implemented, but not by switching your elements because players will be fundamentally confused by conflicting information. I believe that if we were to implement animation glamouring, it would involving something like adding effects to existing animations or changing the colors of existing spells.
I think in terms of that, all the debuffs/Icons on targets should still retain their original look. I don't think anyone should make a big deal over something like that. In my opinion the only thing that should be glamoured is the visual effect of the attack itself when it's sent out, not any of the icons and such.
On that note, I'd love to see a magical girl-esque Heart glamour over Fire spells. :D If they'd actually bring out new visuals and not just let you glamour with whats already given.
I have to try to rip hate away from a good tank and if they're really good I would need to use a pot to get a 3rd Flare off.
I constantly straddle the aggro line in the AoE rotation. Not AoE though and I can't imagine ever ripping hate off of a tank even in the opener with pots.
You generate a lot of hate, but not enough to overtake a good tank unless your gear is significantly better than theirs.
