i would love it and make it toggle for those who don't like it :3 then boom you satisfy both lots of people :D
Normally speech bubbles only show text spoken locally (i.e. with /say), and even then only render up to a short distance and persist for a handful of seconds. Unless you have dozens of people all standing within a few feet of you and all speaking with "/say" at roughly the same time, I don't seeing it becoming a cluttered mess like some of the intentionally exaggerated examples shown in this thread.
speaking of things to turn off... i wish i could turn off macro text... like if a text in the chat log comes from a macro just turn it off... talk about annoying things that are already in the game.
They are already in the game, just turn them on for players too. =)
I'll admit that I do miss this kind of thing from other MMO's, but what you don't realize is that RMT LOVE this this feature and will place their spammers near every spawn point in the game and just spam non-stop on top of the existing tellfriendspam.
Any implementation of this has to work exactly like the NPC version, which means you don't see it unless they are 8 yalms or less away. The mechanics for it are in the game, it's just a matter of how much UI cruft that can run. Having stuff like this running is memory intensive because it has to have two copies of the chat, one for the scrollback and one for rendering the comic bubble, and then has to hold the second copy until the player stops talking. Someone who chats rapidly will quickly occupy all the available screen space in congested areas.
Not opposed to it, but let's not give the RMT any more tools with which to annoy us.
Why not have it control how far away you see it? Letting people adjust it to their leasure? Or even turning it off? Sure I admit it probably can get bad. However if they are spamming chat, and not just tells its much easier to track their RMTing and they will get banned faster.
You should never use an unintended thing as an excuse not to implement a feature though.
I'd love chat bubbles over peoples head when they talk, but only on certain conditions.
1. The ability to toggle them on and off in the settings. If some people would prefer not to have them, they can disable it. Don't ruin ti for everyone else though.
2. At this point in time, even PS3 users should realize their own limitations, but that should NOT hold the game back. SE is eventually going to have to cut feature support for the PS3 all together, so they may as well start somewhere. Give it to PC/PS4.
3. Different settings for it in general, such as:
-Toggle whether or not chat bubbles will display in combat
-Toggle what kind of chat bubbles you'd like to see, such as general, yell, shout, fc, LS, etc.
-Toggle whether or not they will display in crowded areas. Any area with over a certain amount of people in a small area for example, they wont display. But distance yourself from that area of people and they will begin displaying around you.
And whatever else.
p.s. Using RMT as an excuse to not add things to the game is getting a little old by now, get over it and move on.
